we usually call them “userbars”, as facebook changed the name just to make themselves proud to invent something new…

sure it can be easy to code, i’ve done a great version for vBulletin, and it would take little to make one for WordPress… i suppose someone will be able to code one..
what i read here is just childish… what kind of site do you run? from what i see on your site and twitter profile, you are a SEO marketer?…
you start a site for bloggers, what do you think you will do with it… grab spammers. this is the only goal on a site with open registration and off-topics.
i had hundreds of incompetent clients in the past, who thought they were gods and they knew everything and were able to fix everything they were touching… they were also whinners and drama queens. complaining about spam?… sure you can put the fault on the guys here, but that just show that you know nothing about spam, not a single bit.
a good captcha is not useful if the spammer is a human paid by a company to post adverts… a good filtering engine is not good either when the spammers use trolling techniques to post psychadelic messages…
it is the job of the site admin to filter by hand, to approve the content, to find great topics for a site, or simply to not use the boring “off-topic” market that is so profitable… like you just did to raise your seo rank.
you’Re simply not good at seo… leave.
is the the only link that does not work ?
follow this link too: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/when-asking-for-support
the description is actually requested… Marshall MAY add something for that soon…
@Jeff… your posts and your comments about the market are not supposed to be a problem, at the opposite; it is better to know who we’re dealing with on good and bad days than working with someone we know nothing about.
personally, i have people talking against my work all day long… they are my best partners. we know where we go, and when i have something to evaluate, i ask them first. if they trash it, trash it… it is better having a trashed work than a bad work on the market.
the privacy system is not something to take lightly, because a lot of things change in the moment… let’s see, Facebook had to change their privacy statements and system because the Canadian government threatened to block facebook from our country if they were not to do it…
things change… all the time.
sugg: screenshot of website *(like websnapr, etc ) — i don’t need it but it is a major feature..

sugg: detection of rss feed and display of link to it
sugg: deadlink check, cronjob based or anything…
sugg: switch to require approval
sugg: featured link to stick on top of list *(or not, just featured)
sugg: list in multiple categories *(i have more than 500 links to add and some goes in different cats, like in google)
sugg: switch to minimized listing for viewer
you take yourself too seriously Erich… Aladdin is just a comic…
about the translations i don’t mean they are outdated, they are not active at all… just english.
i pm you my details… play as you wish
thanks Jehy, but would be great to be able to decide what part of the site we can limit… personally, a whole site is too much, i would like profiles and activity to be blocked to guests, nothing more…
could you create a admin backend where we select what part of the site we want to be blocked to guests?
*(it’s quite easy though)
simple reason why Andy could not turn BP as a seperate project… he did the opposite this year… he had a deal with Automattic…
why people always think that their way of doing things is always the best one… WordPress have no dogma… or it would be dead for years. when i started on this project, 8 years ago, i was with other projects with more straight dogmas… they usually die because of the narrowed thinking. WP is was larger than from a single entity…
wordpress and buddypress are not proprietary scripts, you do not have to pay to delete the copyright or the product name, there is no license related to the product name.
the reason why you see the names and links to the original projects is what we call respect and credits… nothing more. you can still respect the authors and give credits to them if someone ask… so yes, you can delete everything you need to.
that is the answer to the OP.
@MrMaz … sure i know about the settings, but they are not set in a admin panel… that’s what i mean..
would be great, as many admins know nothing about file edits, so you bring more requests to have support by not providing a panel.
oh, btw, redirects still does not fix… on my side, it’s not blank pages, i’m always redirected to the main page of the site as the permalink does not work…missing loop maybe.
also, i can’t get the language to work… is there something i have to check? my site is in french, and the language files seems to be compatible, even if some missing phrases…
Jeff is in trouble…
where is the paypal button Jeff ?
when i suggest to post a ticket is relatively to the fact that if plugin X is deactivated, any related plugin is deactivated as well… this is a check that does not exists in WP yet, or it would ease a lot of debugs i can tell you… adding more if and asking people to check the code when they are not coders is not the good way to do things…
@MrMaz … not disabling, but see, when we create a link, we have the choice to use the default one or upload a new thumb… would be good in the admin side of things to enable/disable a default thumbnail. there is actually no default settings for your engine, some of them could be done simply:
– default thumbnail (choose, yes, no)
– force description or force metadata
– list categories as dropdown or menu *(kinda like google http://www.google.com/dirhp?hl=en ?)
– choice of metadata to auto-catch (title, desc, keywords, author, language, etc)…
… i know that most of these can be plugins, but as suggestions posted, someone can take-over.
like Jeff said… i prefer having hyper-efficient semantic than extraneous features…
you name Facebook or Ning, but both are completely different things from BP… you can not download the facebook program and make a site of it… *(ok, i can, but not everybody can)… so the comparaison is nulled.
the goals of any company is to make it simple. if Automattic decides to branch WP-BP ?!… why then they decided to merge WP and WPµ ?? your point goes directly in the opposite path of the company.
btw, i know exactly where you want to go, i just give the feedback from the developers side of things… i’ve done the same debate with vBulletin in the last 2 years, until the last months when we released vB 4.0…
for that, you need to suggest this in a ticket to the WordPress.org system…
as the author of that theme to update its template files, as like the error say, the userbar file is not using the right functions.
the problem is when something related to BP is still active, it will call the engine whatsoever… if people do the uninstalling steps, properly, nothing is broken..
steps when uninstalling BP:
1- switch theme to WP default
2- deactivate all BP addons
3- deactivate BP
reload your admin page: http://stecemu.weinandy.net/wp-admin/ and go change your details…
is your theme built based on BP?!… if yes, rename its folder.
thanks Marshall, for the optional field, could it be possible to do the same for the thumbnail?… i’d like my links repository to be without thumbs when i need it..
+1
