I believe most errors were notice errors as we deprecated a lot of functions in 12.0.0. I got in touch with @r-a-y he will review my PR soon https://github.com/r-a-y/buddypress-followers/pull/126 and we’ll work on making the plugin a new BuddyPress Add-on.

I am also using fresh WordPress setup, but still facing the issue. Here are the setup environment details:
WordPress: 4.9.7
BuddyPress: 3.1.0
Twenty Seventeen: 1.6

I enabled script debugging by adding following code to wp-config.php:

You can de-queue BuddyPress styles like @r-a-y suggested in that thread (see #202777). This won’t break anything functionality wise although, of course, it will change your theme’s look and feel because all of the styling information will be gone.

BuddyPress uses a different hook name, but it should do the same thing. Try: bp_embed_oembed_html.

BuddyPress Follow is one of the best. No need to worry about security or performance when using that plugin; @r-a-y will have your back 🙂

If you don’t find a custom solution to this I just wanted to point out that plugin is built by @r-a-y, one of the BuddyPress core developers. I expect it should still work fine. As always, try it on a test install before adding to your live site.
