In reply to: Buddypress 1.2 & BBpress Broken
Don’t upload bbPress to the /forums/ directory… remove that right now.
A copy of bbPress should already reside in /plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress/
Login to the WP dashboard, navigate to “BuddyPress > Forums setup” and set it up!
In reply to: Do I need WPMU or will WP integrate with bbpress?You can integrate with single WP.
In reply to: Help fixing my bp-custom.php for BP 1.2.1In reply to: Favorites — expanding capabilitiesAbility to “Favorite” a topic and get recurring updates doesn’t work right now. It’s something I mentioned in the past on testbp.org. It’s probably a bbPress thing. I’m not sure if anyone outside the BP dev team has even looked into this issue. I might look into it myself sometime in the future.
Don’t like forums? Disable it!
In reply to: Editing the Blogs/Groups/Members/Forum pages?Also, I don’t see how this will specify it to be underneath the random blogs listed on the blog directory in the right column.
This is the magic:
add_action('bp_after_directory_blogs_featured', 'my_custom_content_after_random_blogs');This tells the “bp_after_directory_blogs_featured” do_action part of code in /wp-content/themes/bp-sn-parent/directories/blogs/index.php to plug in your custom code.
In reply to: Editing the Blogs/Groups/Members/Forum pages?add_action() is your friend.
No need to edit the templates directly.
For example, to add custom content after the random blogs:
Add this to /wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php:
function my_custom_content_after_random_blogs() {
echo 'MY CONTENT AFTER RANDOM BLOGS';
}
add_action('bp_after_directory_blogs_featured', 'my_custom_content_after_random_blogs');How do you find these actions? Look for do_action() code in your /wp-content/themes/bp-sn-parent/directories/COMPONENT/index.php.
In reply to: Upon login/registration redirect to Activity Stream?Brajesh Singh has a plugin for that:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-redirect-to-profile/
You might have to modify it to suit your needs.
In reply to: Add photos, videos, links ?There are also these:
BP-Links: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-links/
BP-Gallery (paid plugin): http://buddydev.com
In reply to: H1 Tags and SEOI wouldn’t use <h4> because the structure of the page wouldn’t make sense.
<h4>Site title</h4>
<h2>Secondary page item</h2>
etc.I’d use a <div> or <span> tag instead.
In reply to: H1 Tags and SEOI did this for my own child theme.
But all the other BP pages (directory pages, profile pages, etc.) use the <h2>. It would be too much work to edit every single template file to modify the <h2> to <h1>.
In reply to: Buddypress developersUse the job board over on testbp.org for now:
In reply to: Reversing subdomain activation to subdomainSabuntu, no need to start a new thread.
Anyway for this:
define ( 'BP_ROOT_BLOG', 1 );
define( 'BP_AVATAR_UPLOAD_PATH', '/var/www/wp-content/blogs.dir/3/files' );
define( 'BP_AVATAR_URL', 'hxxp://community.example.com' );– Change your BP_AVATAR_UPLOAD_PATH so it matches your server filepath, don’t use the example code listed in the guide.
– Change the BP_AVATAR_URL to your domain and not the example code listed in the guide

Is this site live at the moment? If you had BP installed on the root before, why not use revert to a backup (if you have one)?
No there isn’t a list of template tags and function name changes AFAIK.
Basically all the old code is in the backwards compatibility plugin for a reason.
You can also check all the bp-COMPONENT-templatetags.php files in BP 1.2 for all the new function calls.
If anyone knows of a better way, reply!
You’ll need to install bbPress as an external install.
Download bbPress @ bbpress.org/download.
Find integration guides @ bbpress.org/forums or this link:
http://theeasybutton.com/blog/2009/07/17/integrating-buddypress-wordpress-mu-and-bbpress/
Omit the BP integration steps in that guide.
In reply to: bbPress issueIf you have BP installed on connect.idotter.ch, you should be able to access your group forums at connect.idotter.ch/forums.
How are you trying to install the forums component? It should be as easy as going to “BuddyPress > Forums setup” in the WP admin backend.
In reply to: Categories Missing after BP 1.2.1 UpgradeHey BNJ,
You’re lucky that this also happened to me!
Read up on what I did to overcome this:
https://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/15553?replies=7#post-89067
[EDIT]
You say you did a completely clean WPMU install, so I’m not sure if the link I posted above will help you.
In reply to: Can\’t activate BP default themeMake sure you disable any caching plugins or scripts (WP Super Cache, object cache, etc.).
Ahh sorry about that!
I thought you were talking about the registration page!
Move /bp-themes/bp-default/members/single/profile/profile-loop.php to your child theme and adjust.
Move the /bp-themes/registration/register.php to your child theme.
Edit as needed.
In reply to: request for subdomains supportThanks for adding that info, andrea_r!
In reply to: Installing buddypress as a SubdomainJust made a few, minute changes to the secondary blog guide:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/install-buddypress-on-a-secondary-blog/
@andrea_r – can you give it a once-over since you’re a WPMU guru?
In reply to: Installing buddypress as a SubdomainThe secondary blog instructions should apply, just change the subdirectory references to subdomain ones if you installed WPMU as a subdomain install.
I guess the instructions could be clearer, I’ll make some modifications to it when I have some time.
But @sabuntu, did you know you – yes you! – can edit any page on codex.buddypress.org? Just make sure you are logged in.
In reply to: request for subdomains supportThis is what you’re looking for:
Allow BuddyPress to function on multiple blogs of a WPMU installation, not just on one root blog:
define ( 'BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG', true );I haven’t tried this out though, but should work!
In reply to: bbPress issueCan you be specific when you say “reinstalled bbPress twice”?
Are you trying to have an external bbPress install?
Or are you trying to use the BP group forums? eg. testbp.org/forums
In reply to: Categories Missing after BP 1.2.1 UpgradeHow did you initially install BP?
I had a similar problem a few months ago when I moved a WP install to WPMU just to use BP.
