In reply to: Editing the buddypress default theme logo
Probably not, but you could probably edit the text yourself!
One way of doing this is by cropping just the text as an image and running it through WhatTheFont to identify the font and then making your textual edits (providing you have the font in question!)
Hey pengume,
You’re lucky! I didn’t have a copy of Burt’s XMLRPC debugger on my localbox, but I was able to find a copy off a server I used it on before!
Here’s the mirror:
To install, put “oci-bb-sayhello.php” in your “my-plugins” folder in your bbPress install and activate it in your bbPress admin area.
Then, put “oci-bp-sayhello.php” in your WPMU root folder and go to that file.
eg. hxxp://yourWPMUinstall.com/oci-bp-sayhello.php
If you have any errors, the script will output them; if there are no errors, you’ll get a “Hello from bbPress!” return message.
Hope that helps!

In reply to: Which template file produces the settings page?It’s in the core.
/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-settings.php
In reply to: WordPress MU 2.8.1 BlogsHey gyonis,
For #1:
You’ll want to turn off blog registration and also set the default user role in WPMU to be “author”; that way everyone will be able to make a post on the root blog.
You can do this by going into your WPMU admin area and navigating to “Site Admin > Options”. Set “Allow New Registrations” to “Only user account can be created”. And set “Dashboard User Default Role” to “Author”.
For #2:
You’ll want to use some type of customized post screen plugin such as Flutter or my personal favorite Custom Field Template.
That should get you going!
You might also want to read this thread which talks about how to create a community blog.
In reply to: Login BarYou could put it in functions.php, but (and I am copying this from the BP codex), you should use bp-custom.php because:
(bp-custom.php) gets loaded with all the rest of bp automatically by bp during each page load. If you don’t have one already then create one in /plugins/buddypress. So we’ll pretend that we have done just that and that our three new functions are going to be loaded with the rest of bp.
In reply to: P and BR tags not working in text/welcome widgetYou’ve probably already tried removing and re-adding the Text widget, right?
The default text widget should always work… but you should check out the WordPress forums to see if anyone has a similar problem, since it’s more of a WP issue than a BP thing.
Do any other tags work besides P and BR in the Text widget?
One other thing to note is if you have any filtering plugins activated, that could affect the widget output, but it’s highly unlikely.
In reply to: Login BarHey driz,
Check out /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-templatetags.php.
The function for bp_login_bar() is there… create your own function based off that and modify it to your liking!
Create this new function in /wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php and then call on your new bar in your BP member template.
I used FF 3.5.2 to test as well.
Maybe you have a cached version of your JS / page?
Hey chargertech,
I’m guessing BuddyPress wouldn’t work for a sub-blog on WPMU, which is what I’m guessing you want it for.
You could try defining the BP_ROOT_BLOG in /plugins/buddypress/bp-core.php to the blog ID in question, that could work… although I’m not entirely sure.
You could also try Alkivia as an alternative – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/alkivia/
Had a chance to read over this again… deleted what I wrote because I didn’t read the initial post properly.
Works for me… maybe you fixed it after you posted!
In reply to: “Kick and Ban” in BP GroupsI think “Kick” and “Ban” should be separated apart.
“Kick” should use the same functionality as when a user decides to manually leave a group.
If we were to go this route, perhaps rename “kick” to “remove from group”.
In reply to: Talk to Andy Peatling tonight on TalkShoeI might pop in for a listen!
Thanks for the (mini) heads-up
In reply to: How to make a safe community?Hi Jeff,
Will the privacy component be backward compatible with other BP releases (1.0.2 and 1.0.3)?
Or does it use core features that aren’t in those releases? I’m guessing it isn’t since there was a ticket by you asking for some changes to the BP core.
Also I wrote a message on your wire about the privacy component a while back, not sure if you received it:

In reply to: Help with Upgrading my SiteIf you have bbPress installed, you should double-check to see if your BP group forums work.
Post in bbPress in a BP group forum and see if that post appears in BuddyPress and vice versa.
Also if you used any BP widgets, remove and re-add them since the widgets API in WPMU 2.8 changed.
Lastly, check to see if your 3rd-party BP plugins work (if you have any installed).
In reply to: How to get a section identifier in the body tag?if ( $bp->current_component == BP_REGISTER_SLUG && $bp->current_action == '' ) {
...
}But you shouldn’t really need to define this since the register page template is already accessible on your main WP theme (depending if you’ve copied the bp_show_register_page() function from the original bphome theme).
In reply to: BP 1.0.4Check the trac… but be careful which patches you apply – especially those applicable to groups.
You’ve been warned!
PS. is there a setting to be notified when a comment is made on the forums here?
RSS is your friend!
For example, if you wanted to subscribe to this thread, click on the RSS icon or this link:
https://buddypress.org/forums/rss/topic/mass-messaging-to-bp-members-member-activity-manager
In reply to: BP 1.0.4You’re probably right to assume that, Kunal.
Add your register_sidebar() functions code from your existing WordPress theme’s functions.php file to your BP Member theme’s functions.php file.
Then your WordPress sidebar should show up.
I’d definitely leave the blog URL field shown… you can say that the blog URL is prefilled in according to your blog name, but can be modified to suit your fancy!
In reply to: Unable to authorize groum membership requestsJust experienced the OP’s problem.
I looked into it and found a tentative fix… though a BP dev will need to look at the code.
In “bp-core/bp-core-notifications.php”, look for the bp_core_notifications_for_user() function.
Then look for these lines:
$item_id = ( 1 == $action_item_count ) ? $component_action_items[0]->item_id : false;
$secondary_item_id = ( 1 == $action_item_count ) ? $component_action_items[0]->secondary_item_id : false;Change this to:
$item_id = $component_action_items[0]->item_id;
$secondary_item_id = $component_action_items[0]->secondary_item_id;I don’t know why there was a check done for only 1 item and then returning false for more than 1… if a BP dev can explain why, that’d be great.
Let me know if anyone encounters any problems.
In reply to: User called zhanglingjuan114 possible spambot?I would try to prevent member registration through .htaccess:
http://wpmututorials.com/how-to/spam-blogs-and-buddypress/
If not .htaccess, then try WP Hashcash, but I prefer the simplistic method of blocking through .htaccess. This will block most spam signups, but of course you can’t block everything!

Thanks to Darcy Norman for the original tip!
