Any ideas on this guys?
haha, I know it seems bizarre. What actually happened is I changed the title of 2 topics but the url was still showing the old topic name even though the name displayed was correct on the actual page. That interferred with the move topic plugin so I deleted the topic and recreated the 2 again from scratch which has caused this issue.
I only need to delete these 2 topics, create them again so the url is just the topic name and i’ll never go into the DB again.Ahh right, so will this not ever affect performance? Is there a way to delete them in the DB or can that not be done? I could do with the absolute url being the topic name that’s all. The current recreated ones have a 1 and 2 after there name in the url.
Thanks. In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forums – Move TopicIs there anyway to order forums in alphabetical order in the drop down? I have over 2000 groups so the list is LONG! Thanks
In reply to: Reversing the order of forum posts within a topicAny ideas on this yet people?
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forums – Move TopicUpdate on the being able to acceess a topic through it’s orginal group after it was moved.
It actually seems as though you can view ANY topic in ANY group by typing in the topic name into the URL so that is just the way BP is and shouldn’t be a problem.
My quesry still stands though about old forum topics staying in the DB. They seem to stick around. If you create a forum topic. delete it and create it again the url is given a number e.g. 1, 2 etc to signify how many copies of that forum topic there have been created.
I have over 2000 groups on my site. If I delete topics I could do with them gone permanently as to not leave behind clutter.
Is that an issue for my database or not in terms of performance etc?
Thanlks again,
Ross
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forums – Move TopicHey 3sixty, just been testing this plugin out and it seems to work well. It has thrown up a couple of questions for me about the way in which BP works. I’m a total novice so bear with me.
I noticed that the drop down list contained a couple of group names that I thought I had edited in the past. I had created 2 groups in the past with an extra word in the title that I did not want. I had edited these successfully but your plugin had picked up their original name in the DD list.
I looked at the URL and low and behold, even though the name displayed in the group was the edited one, the URL was actually showing the old, original name.
The same thing is true for the forums too. After i deleted the offending groups and re created them with the new names (your plugin showed these new names) I recreated the forum names too. The forum names are now given a URL with a -1 after the name now, indicating the original forum name must still be on the database.
After you move a forum topic to another forum also the topic is actually still available in it’s original group through a direct URL.
Is there anywhere to go into the database to clean these things up?
Also one thing that would be great with your plugin would be to order the drop down in Alphabetical order rather than order of creation. Any way we can do that?
Great work though. It was something that was lacking from BP as standard so thanks. My site hasn’t launched yet but if I end up needing to use it, I’ll Paypal you some funds over to say thanks!

In reply to: Idea: Go directly to the most recent postIt would be great if the FIRST page displayed in a forum was the LATEST page. Is that at all possible?
In reply to: Bad words/behaviorI too think this is ESSENTIAL!
We could do with a database that is editable to add banned words into so that when typed into a post, comment or forum are ****’d out.
A ‘Report Post’ button is pretty much the norm for many forums now too so is also a MUST in my eyes.
Would be great to see!
In reply to: How to keep the sticky posts at the topI think it works far better if you DON’t have sticky topics in the group directory showing at the top. That would mean that if you had over 20 sticky topics you would never see ANY of the other ones without scrolling through the groups directory. It is useful to have them sticky in the actual group itself but not in the entire group directory.
In reply to: [New Plugin] BuddyPress Group Forum ExtrasI would love a very simple version of this future plugin which just gives you the option to report a post to the mod or admin.
Would a stripped down version or a version where you can just activate this feature be possible?
Also does anyone know if their is a bad language filter for BP? A customisable one where you can place your own banned words would be great too.
In reply to: Forum tags editing errorHey Snark,
As far as I’m aware this has been reported on TRAC as a bug and will hopefully be fixed in a future release. I agree, it’s very frustrating.
Can a mod please confirm that this is being worked on?
In reply to: Honing the group search function on BP?Any help with this?
I really need to change the search feature.
I need the search to search by group title and only return exact results.
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!
Hey Jeff,
I am using the latest versions of both BP and WP.
I am a member of all groups on the site currently as it is just in development. I have 107 groups created, am logged in as admin, the user which created every group but only 100 of them are showing in the drop down.
This happens when you click on the ‘Forums page’ and are looking at the forums directory.
There is a post new topic button which then displays teh topic header, details and a drop down to select which group to post the topic in.
Maybe the code is set to just display 100 groups?
Thanks for your time!
In reply to: Making tabs open in a new window in BuddyPressCheers r-a-y!
Looks quite complex as Im very new to this but let’s give it a go!
Thankyou!
Ross
In reply to: Making tabs open in a new window in BuddyPressFound a plugin called page lists plus that lets you just tick a box to enable opening in a new tab. Thanks so much for the help though! Really appreciate such a quick response.
Is there anyway of changing the default tabs names by the way. I want my group tab to say ‘shares list’ rather than groups.
Any ideas or should I start a new topic?
Thanks again!
Tridian,
Setting —> Miscellaneous
blank out the top box and fill in the absolute path underneath. Hope it works for you!
Ross
No worries, this will still save me heaps of time so THANKYOU!
That was quite easy to grasp actually! Thanks! Is there anyway to make a default forum topic within these groups and include avatars or is that a manual job?
Thanks for your patience!
Ross
That’s great, I’ll give it a go and see if I can get my head around it. I’m only just getting used to BP and the backend. It’s opened up a whole new language to me. I have never done any web design etc EVER!
Loving the forum here though, thanks for being so helpful!
Fantastic, thanks for such a quick reply. Awesome plugin by the way. Integral on the site I am currently designing.
Thankyou!
In reply to: BuddyPress Restrict Group CreationHi guys,
I’m not the most technical but trying to get to grips with setting up a BP site. I want to setup all of my groups and then only have admin (myself) able to add any more. I have just installed thsi plugin.
What needs to go into the configuration in my admin panel in order to achieve this.
Thanks
Ross
Wow,
How can I get hold of this? It sounds exactly what I need.
I’m very new to BP and a bit limited shall we say technically! Is it a simple process?
Thanks so much for your time,
Ross
In reply to: SocialGo vs. BuddyPressSG is a great platform initially when you want to start up a social network.
I have been with them for 3 months. Great software and easy to use but there are MANY limitaions. YOu don’t host anything yourself you you are reliant on their servers which as of late have been terrible. Lot’s of problems, slow page loads etc and issues with widgets not working.
They have just moved data centres so that should improve.
The biggest problem I have is not having access to the content my users create. the vaule of our sites is often user generated material such as forums.
Yes of course SG is secure but what happens if we build a network with a couple of thousand users. they may create thousands of posts which give our site value. Just say SG end up having problems with their servers or indeed don’t last out and aren’t in business down the line. All of our content is gone.
Also you are pretty much limited to their widgets for chat etc which are lacking.
Some good stuff to test out your niche market but I am looking at migrating to BuddyPress in th enext couple of months. I’m putting everything together now.
If you have any questions just ask
Cheers.
Right guys, I reinstalled everything and in general settings in admin changed the content link from the default addresss to the absolute url, eg http://www.mysite.com/wp-content/uploads before trying to post a thing.
I also changed perma links to ‘Day and name’
All seems to work.
Let me know how you get on.
Ross
