    Cheers Varun, keep me straight.

    I think you will have the same issue, you are looking to implement hierarchical connections within BuddyPress and that functionality does not exist. I was thinking you could possibly use group memberships to do this – BP supports hierarchical groups, but I’m not sure that would work.

    What I was thinking is that the primary user could send out a join invite, and when the new member joined they would be automatically joined to the root group. But I think you’d still have to make significant modifications to the way BP works – every function would have to check for group memberships before giving access to content.

    You could take a look at this:

    I think that would be a lot of customisation as this type of functionality is not built in, you’d basically have to rewrite a lot of the code.

    This could be to do with role mapping used for BP, if I remember correctly in order to manage a lot of BP options the user needs to ‘manage_options’ as a capability.

    i thought you were talking about redirection after someone has visited the activation page? The activation page that you specify is the one that if used, but it’s only an anchor, the actual content comes from buddypress. not the actual page. But either way it’s why I suggested overloading that page from the code that builds it.

    What does your code look like thats adding the activity?

    Here details of the process:

    Template Hierarchy

    Also I’ve a plugin called BP template Overloader that might help with the process. It lays out the locations of the files and allows you to view and compare them. great for familaising yourself with the files.

    I think your best bet is to overload the activation page. You only want it to redirect the once, straight after registration so to me it would make sense to make the modifications there.

    there’s a function, bp__core_redirect() which should help, if you have experience with code?

    I think this would be better asked in the bbPress forum, they will have better ideas as to what’s possible. I’ve not heard of such a plugin.

    That would be useful, modding the registration form is definitely on my list.

    One thing to look at is BP Better Registration, this is effectively a plugin overload of the whole registration process, you could probably use that as a basis for your own registration mods.

    The issue is that the bp template ages run functions that auto-format the output. what you’d have to do is overload the registration page then rewrite it using the bp base functions rather than the helper functions, that way you’d get to specify your own css. But I’m not the expert here, still learning bp, there probably will be other ways.

    I’ve also added this to BP Profile Shortcodes Extra, it was pretty easy to add so I thought why not?

    Actually @Avaiya, I was wrong, BP Activity Shortcode does not include that feature, though I do think you should ask Brajesh if he’ll consider adding it as a feature first, before considering putting it into mine, it fits better there.

    @djpaul That would be a grand idea! Mind, I think the plugin that I’m working on at the moment would add significantly to core, it adds Members, Friends and Group only statuses to Posts, allowing posts to only be viewed by group members etc. I’ve always felt this was an obvious feature that was missing.

    Theres a plugin that already does most of that, BP Activity Shortcode, there’s an option to add a what’s new box. I’m not sure if it will only display a What’s now box, but I’d have thought it would be a pretty simple change to add that option, ask over at BuddyDev.com.

    However shortcodes don’t work on BP pages, same as any other content you add to the page via the editor, these would have to be other pages, where you are using your other shortcodes.

    @venutius

    Yes you can do that, you can set new default filters for the activity to be shown.

    Yes it is, I’d love for you to try it out. Happy to add features. your current plugin is not being maintained and is starting to throw errors. This new one has all the same features as that one, but it also provides the ability to display the members cover image and also lists of the users friends and groups, also it can show friend and group suggestions based on the users friends.

    On top of that it can also do the same kind of thing for groups – Group avatar, cover image, group links plus the full group header.

    I’m still working on layout patterns for these new features. I’ve built in three different kinds of lists to the profile_lists shortcode, I’d like feedback as to what works.

    The other thing I’ve done is created comprehensive documentation, which gives you a much better idea of what you can do with it, which is quite a lot really.

    To a certain extent I’d say the answer is yes it’s possible, all the read only pages at least. Take a look at the overload files in plugins/buddypress/bp-teplates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members/single. These are the page components that make up much of the bp profile pages.

    Have you deactivated your other plugins to see if there’s a conflict?

    @venutius

    Otherwise you will end up with teo like plugins, and I don’t think that would work.

    I think the only way to avoid this is to manually moderate new signups using BP Registration Options. At least that’s what I do and I’ve never had a spam group created.

    You need to ask this on the BuddyDev forum, they should be able to help.

    I use WPUlike, it allows liking on activity comments, I suppose you could ask rtMedia to add this as a feature?

    What plugin are you using to get likes?
