In reply to: Limiting to private membership
There’s a few different ways you could go about this, there’s a few privacy plugins that will hide different aspect of the site from public view. One is BP Registration Options, this installs new member moderation (so you can choose who to allow on you site) and BuddyPress privacy, where the BuddyPress pages are all private, but the WordPress pages and posts are still public.
If that’s not private enough for you then there’s BP Simple Private which allows you to hide all aspects of your site apart from the homepage.
In reply to: Blog subscriber vs. BP userYou don’t have to be logged in to comment in WordPress
In reply to: What WP theme should I use for BuddyPress?BuddyPress used to come with it’s own theme, it’s still there though not really supported.
The theme dictates the look and feel of your site so recommendation is difficult, also there’s a choice to be made between premium and free themes.
For the free themes just take a look over on the WordPress Themes Directory
In reply to: Blog subscriber vs. BP userYou could have normal users simply subscribe to a mailing list, there no need to have them as site members, then you could run the BuddyPress install as private, so that one logged in members see those pages.

In reply to: Forum IssuesI can’t reply to this one:
Starting a new topic is problematic too, I managed to raise this one but not able to create a new one now.
In reply to: last_activity empty in members loopMaybe you should raise this on Trac?
In reply to: [Resolved] BuddyPress User Info WidgetNot exactly sure I understand what you want, but there’s this one:
Don’t know of any others
In reply to: Cannot See GroupsThis may of may not be of help:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-custom-profile-menu/
In reply to: Cannot See GroupsThe Member Toolbar is the BuddyPress drop down menu, do you mean the tabs on the profile page? There’s lots of discussions about changing those tabs
In reply to: Cannot See GroupsIn reply to: [Resolved] BuddyPress User Info WidgetYou should raise this on the forum for that plugin, you probably won’t get many replies here.
In reply to: Cannot See GroupsThere will be, you can start by searching these forums.
In reply to: Cannot See GroupsYes that item links to the users groups as that menu is the users personal set of profile menu options, all of those options refer to the members profile.
Why not create a site menu item for groups?
In reply to: Group Assignment? If it was bbPress that caused your issue then yes, you’d need to take that to the theme author
In reply to: Cannot See Groupsthat sounds like you are clicking on My Groups or have created a menu item for My Groups instead of groups.
What happens when you go to http://www.mysite.com/groups/ ?
In reply to: Group Assignment?Yes it will allow this, you would need the Auto Group Join plugin to assign users to group and also be aware that it uses bbPress to create group specific forums.
In reply to: Buddypress errors after migration to VPSYou could try that but be prepared for it failing again, if it does then you need to raise a ticket on the support forums for those plugins
In reply to: Buddypress errors after migration to VPSThe errors on the homepage indicate that there are issues with the BP Profile View plugin and also BuddyPress Profile Tabs, I think the first thing I would do is remove these two plugins.
If you do not have access to Dashboard>>Plugins then you would need to FTP to your host and deleted their directories from the wp-content/plugins directory.
No idea if that would fix your issue with login in though but its the most obvious error.
In reply to: Read Only Group?Think this was the plugin Hugo was thinking of, it’s not been updated in 4 years though.
In reply to: BuddyPress doesn’t work (NL)Try it with only BuddyPress running, deactivate all other plugins. Also, switch to the 2016 theme. BuddyPress should then work.
In reply to: Can not create Groups, sort ofThe only thing I can think of is maybe you created a group with that name before and somehow BP is retaining that info?
In reply to: Reconnecting BuddyPress linksWhat you could do is install WPFront User Role editor, one of the features of this plugin is that it allows you to choose menu items as not being visible until you are logged in etc.
In reply to: bp_send_email helpIn reply to: Buddy Press is not funtioningThink I’d be tempted to install everything from scratch again and make sure you select the right permalink structure from the start. Having said that I’m not sure the permalink structure has anything to do with it in this case, though I’m out of ideas as to what the issue can be.
