You might want to take a look at my website. It’s for people just starting out with BuddyPress, it might give you some ideas.
There’s a plugin to force the user to select an Avatar before they user your site – http://buddyuser.com/plugin-review-buddypress-force-profile-photo
Some of your questions you need to ask your theme creator, though if it’s not a BuddyPress theme they may not be much help.
In reply to: bbp-register layoutLooking ter layout it seems everything is shifted to the right. It’s the theme that is doing this I’d say, you should ask the theme developer for advice on how to correct this. Another method would be to get a CSS editor, maybe SiteOrigin CSS, and use it to see if you can modify the left padding/margin settings for the fields on the left of the page?
In reply to: bbp-register layoutAlso, it looks like your theme has it’s own theming for the registration page, you might like to ask it’s developers about affecting the layout of the registration page.
In reply to: bbp-register layoutThe basic layout of the items on the right side of the registration screen can be affected by moving the fields around in Dashboard>>User>>Profile Fields.
You can drag and drop them and that will affect the order that they are displayed.
An alternative might be to install BP Better Registration, which creates a different type of registration process.
You might benefit from visiting my website http://buddyuser.com It’s aimed at newbies looking to get the most out of BuddyPress.
In reply to: Group search not working when made as FrontpageOn a default configuration there is no change to the group search when you set it to be on the front page like this so it should work.
Have you tried deactivating all the plugins and checking if it works then? Also try the 2016 theme.
Edit the .pot file direct? But it will get overwritten next update
You don’t need to use the plugin, it simply copies the new .mo file into the right directory on your site, it just helps when you are editing a large number of plugins. all you need it Poedit and typing skills
In reply to: members not showingYou need to look into setting up a template overload of the files that create those pages:
I’ve not used visual composer, only siteorigin so far, with site origin you create a grid of columns and rows and you can insert any widget into any Page Builder block
In reply to: User automatically logged in on registerSeems like a strange one for a plugin conflict but that’s the starting point, deactivate all your plugins and switch to 2016 in order to establish a baseline. With that configuration it will work, then introduce the plugins one by one until you find the culprit.
In reply to: User automatically logged in on registerNo, that’s not the behaviour, once they complete registration they are left logged out. If they try to log in it refuses to allow them until they have activated.
In reply to: BuddyPress Favorites inThere a plugin that does Favourite notifications:
In reply to: BuddyPress feed is in my newsletterHow does the newsletter work? Can you modify it to only take some activity types?
In reply to: User automatically logged in on registerIf you have not added user moderation then the user becomes active once they have activated and they are free to use your site how they like. They can log in, since activation is the last step of user authentication.
In reply to: Read Only Group?I’ve also asked for this to be a BP Feature enhancement
In reply to: Member’s Base Profile TemplateIs “About us” a profile field, is the question
In reply to: Member’s Base Profile TemplateBefore you do that, check out my page on setting up users, see if that gives you any ideas:

In reply to: Profile Page and BioHi there,
You might like to check out my page on setting up users

This includes details of adding additional profile fields to the users profile. Also check out the section “Installing BP” in my site, I’m sure it will give you a lot of useful information.
In reply to: Members List limited to 50?Most of your users have never been active, they will therefore not be shown in the list for Last Active.
In reply to: Member’s Base Profile TemplateIt’s not entirely clear what you are asking. BuddyPress does not install an “About Us” section. If that’s what you are trying to remove you are in the wrong place.
In reply to: Cropping image avatars not workingTry switching to the 2016 theme, with no plugins loaded there should not be much to mess with the CSS/javascript.
In reply to: Facebook pluginI don’t think such a plugin exists
In reply to: Facebook pluginI’m not sure about integrating fb into the activity feed but you can display the FB page activity in a widget with Custom Facebook Feed, also there are a couple of Social Login plugins to allow FB users to log in to your site using their fb credentials.
In reply to: BuddyPress menu pages not workingBuddyPress does not come with shortcodes I’m afraid, these are from some other plugin
In reply to: BuddyPress menu pages not workingWhere did you get those shortcodes from?
You need to clarify exactly what the problem is, what text did it show you again?
