Hmm, more of an issue than I realized.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to nail down the Facebook button so that it appears in all browsers?

Not being able to find the button is not a huge problem – people can simply spend an extra minute to sign up the usual way – but it is going to result in quite a few support emails for all of us if people are aware that Facebook login is an option but they can’t find the button.

Camino (Mac) and FireFox 3 (Mac) are fine, Safari 4 (Mac) had a problem.

The best way to test the FB-connect on different browsers is to try http://testbp.org/ and find the one which doesn’t work properly.

Yes. In particular, if anyone is still using Windows, it would be useful to know if this problem crops up with Internet Explorer.

It works fine on FF3, chrome and okay on IE7

Nice work on the FB plugin. I’ve got it working and can create a new user and login fine. However, there’s two significant problems that I can see:

    1. The FB user can create a blog but when they try to login, they’re prompted for a password. The FB password doesn’t work (which is right) and they don’t have a BP password, so they’re locked out. Either they need to be able to login to their blog with their FB credentials, or they need to be prohibited from creating a blog.

    2. The FB plugin goes in the /plugins/ folder and so is available to all users to activate but doesn’t offer functionality to individual blogs so is redundant and confusing to users (when plugin activation is possible for blog owners).

I know this was just a bit of Sunday fun, but people thinking of using the plugin need to know that it’s not yet 100% ready for dropping into BP.

Josswin…for issue #2, google “Plugin Commander” for WPMU. It’s a solid plugin that solves that issue, and allows you to control your plugins for your users.

The workaround for #1 is have the facebook user change both their email and password in their BP profile. That allows them to user their username and sets the password in BP for either futures logins without facebook or with…doesn’t matter.

Trent, users connecting with fb connect should never have to disclose/change their password to BuddyPress. That’s one of advantages to the user of joining through fb. The user should be able to enjoy the benefits of multiple services with a single profile of protected data.

Benny, I think the next version of wpmu will make plugin commander obsolete and, as you point out, fix this issue.

    @trent

Yeah for sure, just called it a “workaround”, not a desired solution ;) I noticed today that an important file required for the “sitewide plugin activation” fix from Andy into the WPMU branch wasn’t there, but I have tested it out and it actually will make plugin commander obsolete.

Guys…I really hate to do this, but I’ve wasted too many hours overlooking the obvious. Could someone kindly tell me which comment.php file the to put this line in, <?php do_action(‘fbc_display_login_button’) ?> and where. The readme is so simple, it’s over my head.

My site is at http://www.opendoorproject.org. Thank you so much for your time.

You can’t with this plugin (yet?). This plugin is only really for user authentication and inital setup.

    A few errors:

In the dashboard under above each comment i get this

Warning: Missing argument 5 for fbc_get_avatar() in /home/dansexpo/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bp-fbconnect/wp-facebookconnect/fbconnect.php on line 528

Posting a comment on the wire I get this

    Please try again.

however I am unable to log out via BP, I have to go to FB to logout

Are there functions in the home theme that need to be carried across into my custom theme?

has anyone else seen the “facebook” small icon disappear if you change your avatar? it no longer shows you are logged in via a facebook account. is this normal behavior or a bug?

i’m also trying to use this, have activated and api is fine, but no FB buttons appearing – do they all have to be added manually? I thought that there may be some on the sign-up page or in the top right of the BP page as in the bptest

    @gibcosta

actually i saw the little fb button for a second on the signup page, but haven’t seen it once since – and i am also getting the same

Warning: Missing argument 5 for fbc_get_avatar() in /home/

message but on the discussion page by the avatar selection

have always wanted to use this and was never able to use the sociable.es version as that didn’t work, now would love to use this, but again it seems incompatibe with my blog

Not sure if anyones seen this already but there’s a GPL PHP class which might make dealing with the Facebook API easier:

Anyone knows how to resolve : Warning: Missing argument 5 for fbc_get_avatar()

@hempsworth, you should liaise with that developer regarding the FB API?

Make sure you are using the trunk.

**This will NOT WORK with RC-1**

Hi Andy- huge thanks for a really useful plugin that makes buddypress even more attractive and exciting than it is already!

I hate to be a noob, but when I try to activate the plugin, I get

    Warning: require_once(/home/

/public_html/wp-content/wp-config.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/

    /public_html/wp-content/plugins/bp-fbconnect/bp-fbconnect/wp-facebookconnect/common.php on line 11

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/

    /public_html/wp-content/wp-config.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/

    /public_html/wp-content/plugins/bp-fbconnect/bp-fbconnect/wp-facebookconnect/common.php on line 11

I’m guessing this is because I’m running 1.0-RC1 1030 , but the files available in the download page are RC1 too? Where can I get the correct version of Buddypress to work with this plugin?

Cheers everyone, and thanks so much for all the hard work.
