Over the past few weeks, we’ve released three – count ’em, three! – beta versions of BuddyPress 1.5. During that time, we’ve gotten some great feedback, and some great patches, from our user and developer community. With a clear mind (and a clear milestone), today we are releasing the BuddyPress 1.5 Release Candidate.
The “release candidate” label means that we think that the current codebase is rock solid, and this final stage in the release cycle gives users one more chance to find any remaining kinks before the stable release.
We’d like this RC period to be short – we’re as anxious for the 1.5 release as you are! – so please give the RC a go in your test environments, and try the latest code in a live testbed at testbp.org. As usual, we recommend that you don’t run pre-release code in mission-critical production environments.
You can download BuddyPress 1.5 RC 1 today, from the bottom of our Trac page.
In addition (it’s been quite a weekend): available immediately is BuddyPress 1.2.10. This minor update includes an important security fix, as well as fixes for a few deprecated function calls. It’s a recommended update for all BuddyPress installations. Upgrade through your WordPress Dashboard, or download BuddyPress 1.2.10 from WordPress Extend or BuddyPress.org.
All right! Thank you Devs 🙂
Hip hip horray! Hip hip horray! 😀 Can’t wait for stable! Hope the RC stage goes quick! 😀 Good job, devs!
Great work 🙂 1.5 is really coming perfect, thanks for the time and effort you put to make this, have a cozy weekend guys! 🙂
Is there a reason child themes aren’t working with this yet? Because it is still just a release candidate?
They do work. If you post some more details on BuddyPress.org/support/, we’ll figure out what’s gone wrong with yours 🙂
With BP 1.5 , installed on WPMU. Will be possible to have several BP deployed ? I mean one comunity by subdomains.

We are getting closer here! Thank you BuddyPress Team!
How come I still see the Buddypress bar? I thought it was supposed to be integrated and look like the WordPress admin bar

Всё работает! Есть небольшие недочёты в работе со сторонними плагинами, но встроенный функционал работает без нареканий. BP1.5 WP3.2.1
@jetlej It is, but it’s not the default in 1.5. To see it, set define(‘BP_USE_WP_ADMIN_BAR’, true); in your wp-config.php
Unlike any other day(I would be here to inform about a possible bug), today I am here to tell you that I am using bbPress 2.0 RC 5 and BuddyPress 1.5 RC on http://www.opes.es and everything seems to be working perfectly.
I’ve even translated almost the whole POT file to Spanish, the result is awesome.
Thank you very much for these platform.
*By the way, I know I shouldn’t be using a “not released” software version on the site but… I was looking forward to begin so it worths the risk… take it as a complement…
Can’t wait for the final stable release. Thanks for your hard work!
Is there any possibility the 1.5 can disable the pluggin to show some of the meaningless activities. For example, I have Transposh translation pluggin. Each time I manually correct the automatic translation, the “activity” lists each phrase/sentence I have just translated. For one article, it displays tons of translation activities. I spend quite time to delete all of them, but very often next time when I visit the activity page again, many of them still come back. I know the 1.5 will have very good function on “activity”, but I have to disable it just because of that reason. I really hope I can enable that great “activity” function. Thanks.

Awesome! I Hope it will be released Soon, Can’t Wait 😀
Where would I find the list of deprecated functions in 1.2.10? I updated BP and received fatal errors for:
bp_is_group_admin_screen in Group Documents
bp_is_active in unified search at
http://buddydev.com/buddypress/creating-the-sitewide-globalunified-search-page-for-your-buddypress-theme/
However, the result was a white page on the front end. Rolled back to 1.2.9 and all is good.
No functions were deprecated in 1.2.10. Not sure what’s causing your problem. Maybe your upgrade didn’t complete?
this might be a dumb question, but are the upcoming BP releases usable with any theme?
I’m new to BP started working on it a couple weeks ago and customized it pretty well, I’m excited to hear that a new version is coming out. Would appreciate if someone can help me with the following:
– where can I find a list of new features in this version?
– since 1.5 is skipping versions it seems to be a huge upgrade, when it is released, is there ANY benefit in installing WP/BP on a fresh installation or is simply upgrading via dashboard 100% the same?
– one of you guys mentioned to have rolled back, is there a feature in WP where you can rollback plugins / BP versions, do you simply re-install it, or are roll backs done from manual backups?
Thanks!
Thanks @DJPaul!
Does anyone know why Buddypress is now allowing me to use the BP-Default theme? It’s not coming up in the themes list.
I have two questions:
I am trying to get the default WordPress admin bar to show; @Paul Gibbs suggested a line of code which did not work when added to my functions.php file. Any tips?
2nd do you need to do anything besides install bbpress 2.0 RC5 to get the forum to work with Buddypress?
awesome jog everyone, I am looking forward to finally implement these plugins to my websites.
Put it in wp-config.php
This new version is pretty badass. It is already looking awesome in my wordpress theme. I am still trying to sort out how the bbpress 2.0 plugin works with the buddypress plugin. Overall, this is a huge step up from the older versions. Really excited about this.
@jetlej If you’re using 1.5, check you’ve completed the upgrade/install wizard in the wp-admin.
@GIGALinux Wann wird eine deutsche Sprachdatei (de_DE) für 1.5 verfügbar sein?
@schwarzaufweiss: Ich hoffe die deutsche Sprachdatei morgen oder übermorgen veröffentlichen zu können!
(I hope to release a German translation for BuddyPress 1.5 tomorrow or thursday.)
@djpaul thanks, I added it to wp-config.php (i did before as well, just wrote the post wrong) Although I still did not see a change. However I did figure out the problem and here it is to help another hapless soul:
from your above post I copied and pasted:
yours
define(‘BP_USE_WP_ADMIN_BAR’, true);
mine
define('BP_USE_WP_ADMIN_BAR', true);
but the ‘ marks were the wrong kind of ‘ marks if you get what I mean. I changed those with the seemingly same ones from my keyboard and it worked fine. In Coda the BP_USE_WP_ADMIN_BAR was written in black instead of orange which helped sort that out.
Moral of the story: Don’t cut and paste? 🙂
I update 1.2 to 1.5 rc1 and not BuddyPress Menu Tab not showing on Dashboard, what to do? 🙂
@AllMad.org @InterMike your site is great, thanks for advertising it here, however, I think it miss the: proudly powered by WordPress and buddypress. this is not nice, even I’m not a developer but I feel it’s rude to remove this and waste all the work people did to offer you this script for free.
Is there a BP Template Pack coming out soon? I would love to start building my custom theme for 1.5
OK, what am I doing wrong? I download from the link at the top of the page but I cannot install it in my development WP site. Thanks. I am not a noob to web development but working with WP and BP for the first time.
Did anybody test BP 1.5 RC 1 with BP Gallery 1.0.9.1 (www.buddydev.com)?!?
With Beta 3 everything was working – with RC 1 it’s broken, at least on my test installation. Just went back to Beta 3 and everything is OK. Any idea…
@schwarzaufweiss Can you be more specific about how “it’s broken”?
@jetlej The new version of BP Template Pack, fully compatible with BP 1.5, will be released in the upcoming few days. You can get the development version from https://github.com/boonebgorges/bp-template-pack
@boonebgorges «Gallery» page is empty with RC 1. One is able to create a Gallery but it’s not displayed on the Profile. Only Galleries within Groups are OK… Your account is still activ. Log in if you like. A brand new module is there. 🙂 But it’s BP Beta 3. Later on I can re-install RC 1 if you like…
@schwarzaufweiss You may want to contact Brajesh about it. I’d be surprised if any of the (quite minor) changes between 1.5-beta-3 and 1.5-rc-1 had big consequences, but he will be in a better position to test than I am.
@boonebgorges …already did that earlier today, Brajesh seems to be «out of office». Same with me: surprised. Brajesh is always doing a great job.
Huge thanks Devs 🙂
Is there any word on BBPress integration? I appears that RC1 is still running BBPress 1.0 and I was under the impression the next release of Buddypress would incorporate the new BBPress 🙂
If I want to install this over my existing 1.2, do I upload the files via FTP and overwrite? I used the WP upload wizard and nothing happened.
Alive and well! I updated my site http://rpgamer.pl/portal/ BP 1.5-rc1 – everything is almost OK.
Almost…becouse Achievements plugin had some “Warning: in_array() [function.in-array]: Wrong datatype for second argument in /../../../../wp-content/plugins/achievements/includes/achievements-core.php on line 304” problems 🙁

Any ideas?
Cheers and thanks for all the hard work. I’ll be sure to contribute what I can to the project. $$$

It’s been fun! Looking forward to more.

I changed the links to help protect my site from getting ripped off. Plus, I’m in a middle of a redesign.
Uploaded the zip and nothing happened.
