I think you mean a post in a blog. An individual entry within a blog is a post, not a blog.
In reply to: Hints to debug“but I’m just surprised about the fact that WPMU itself is not verbose on errors enough.”
Because they’re disabled. Search around for wp_debug=true in the config file.
and we still have to update all the ones at freebpthemes.com for 1.2
I forsee long days ahead.
In reply to: [Poll] Which development tools do you useCan I count my Wii, the elliptical trainer and the mp3 player as well then?
In reply to: Changing registration pageCould ask the theme authors.

I believe it pulls in the default. Best place to add things to registration pages in MU is to write a plugin to hook into the filters in place on that page, rather than hack the core.
In reply to: Hints to debugFor the OP, knowing how to use the programs help.
I’ve seen too many threads with people spending hours over issues trying to fix something when the setup is working how it should, just not the way they expected.Being familiar with your server helps too. Anything borks, I (and others) will tell you to check your error logs first. They could be anywhere, it depends on your server.
I don’t expect people to be able to code, but for heavy debugging, you should be able to read the code and have a general knowledge of what it’s supposed to do. That comes with experience. You’ll also be able to check syntax that way, as a missing , : ; or } can do some pretty strange things.
Break stuff on purpose.
Seeing what happens when you change one element you know you can switch back gives you +5 experience points. Use it wisely.
In reply to: Activate BP Plugin and get 500 ErrorThere’s a new version about to come out.
In reply to: WPMU very slow in localAre you loading it up while your internet is disconnected? It does several call outs.
Also, this is a WPMU question and shoudl be over in their forums. (where I’d give the same answer, heh.
)
In reply to: [Poll] Which development tools do you useHeh, pen & paper – me too!
Terminal was a given, I thought. Phpmyadmin or terminal for db work here.
In reply to: [Poll] Which development tools do you useDepends on your OS.

We’re on Linux boxes here, so – NetBeans, phpEdit, firebug and whatever tools you find common on linux-based hosting.
I look at IE screenshots here:
http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/index.php
or on my kid’s computer.
It has winxp.Yes, it’s a pain.
In reply to: What theme would you recommend for a FAQ sub-blog?“- What is the best way to populate a ‘live’ (on a public server) site, view/test it online, but keep it hidden/private for non-admins (to prevent copycats, leaking, Google indexing etc)? The ‘privacy settings do no offer this choice? do I need a plugin for that?”
The simply brilliant way: edit your computer’s hosts file.
Slap MU up wherever, even on an IP address, but change your own host file to show the old domain at the new location. Proceed as usual. You & your computer is the only person to see the site “live”.
(oo bad construct there – computers aren’t people. yet.)
You won’t need any google-fu or the more privacy plugin. When the time comes, all you need to do is remove your own hosts file edit, update the DNS to the new server, and wait.
“- Which way to Chenge the Site url is working best (see https://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL ), are the 2 ‘defines’ enough currently?”
in MU? Oh heck no. Nowhere near enough. The url is saved in a multitude of places. That’s why I suggested the hosts file way.
Yes, you have to keep editing it to go back to the live site, but it’s way less painful.
In reply to: New install for testing: use WP or WPMU?If you need user blogs, then install WPMU.
“I assume it will need a wildcard entry in the HTTPD.conf file as per WPMU or will this change?”
If you want subdomain blogs, yes you still need wildcards.
In reply to: More than 1 site adminNope, the BP admin areas are on the Site Admin level.
In reply to: All users posting on the same blog. Is it possible?“It should behave just like regular WP, with multiple authors.”
Then as stated above, just use regualr WP. The latest rd of BP works on single WP. The template will (or can) handle the “blog” tab part.
In reply to: siteurl vs. home – getting the blog domainUm, I commented on the ticket, but it’s been my understanding all along that moving MU out of the root just plain ol’ hasn’t been working. Like ever. It messes up the member blogs.
In reply to: Help with initial wp mu installThis’ll help.
Also, there’s a WordPressMU forum here:
That IS the plan – the 1.2 version out now are release candidates. They go out here for testing and feedback, and when they are official, THEN they go in the repo.
This way, the bugs get worked out by users who *choose* to upgrade knowing they may find issues. If all these changes were in the repo, you would have had upgrade notices 3 times in the last couple weeks.
In reply to: register.phpDon’t modify core files.
You add new fields to registration from the backend in the BuddyPress menu area. just fill out what you want and they get added automagically.
In reply to: Help with Site Structure – Interesting Quest !“and the themes are likely to have uncompatibilty issues. “
I can count on one hand the number of WordPress themes that don’t work right in MU. Most of them are fine.
BuddyPress themes are different.
In reply to: Downgrade WordPress MU to a standard WordPress? The merge is done in trunk. Seriously, the work has been done already. People have announced this merge since last May-ish. We’re just about at feature freeze, so from here on out will be bug fixes only (plus some UI work on the MU menus).
While I think it;s quite possible to downgrade MU to single WP, the reverse isn’t true and it would be much better to wait until 3.0. You’ll upgrade as usual, and there will be instructions on how to turn off the network and go back to a single blog. (probably cuz I’ll write them…
)
In reply to: Upload don’t workChange the ownership of the folders.
Why not a blog?
I;d prefer to answer these question by email to not clutter up the forums, cuz it’s a paid thing.
(mods, feel free to make your call)But in short:
– it works in either kind of install
– it also works with multiple TLDs. I use it to run atypicalife.net and my family’s blogs on the same exact WPMU installation that runs wpmututorials.
– it works fine with 3.0, we’ve been using it on trunk, but it meeds renaming.

– remote login means saving the cookies from one domain to the next. your one user login & pass works for all if you’re assigned to those blogs.
In reply to: how can I request a new do_action hookEnhancements are being punted to the next release so try and mark it for future.
