    No worries. Glad I could help :)

    Not exactly what I meant. There are BP profile fields (added through the backend) and then there are usermeta (which you will have to code yourself and is WP core). Stuff that’s in your profile will be displayed publicly on your profile. Usermeta can be displayed, but doesn’t have to necessarilly.

    Xevo, tried to use jwysiwyg on another project a couple months back, but the last version then was from January 09 and didn’t play nice with the newest jQuery version. A quick look just now showed that it hasn’t changed. Haven’t had a look at the trunk though…

    Mate, this is an old post and with the new default theme it’s not really relevant anymore. Have a look at testbp.org to see what I mean.

    I’d give them the choice during registration, then store that value as usermeta and check for each bp-component for that value and then either display the contents of that component or a nice little reminder with a link to upgrade their account.

    Not sure how well roles would work as you can have different roles in different blogs.

    Nope. For an xtra profile page you’ll need to use something like this:

    /**
    * Setup update location nav item
    * @since 1.0
    */
    function sv_xprofile_xtra_nav()
    {
    global $bp;

    $profile_link = $bp->loggedin_user->domain . $bp->profile->slug . '/';

    bp_core_new_subnav_item( array( 'name' => __( 'Update Location', 'scuba' ), 'slug' => 'update-location', 'parent_url' => $profile_link, 'parent_slug' => $bp->profile->slug, 'screen_function' => 'sv_screen_update_location', 'position' => 15 ) );
    }
    add_action( 'xprofile_setup_nav', 'sv_xprofile_xtra_nav' );

    /**
    * Display location update screen
    * @since 1.0
    */
    function sv_screen_update_location()
    {
    if ( !bp_is_home() && !is_site_admin() )
    return false;

    /* Check to see if any new information has been submitted */
    if( isset( $_POST['save'] ) )
    {
    /* Check the nonce */
    check_admin_referer( 'sv_profile_update_location' );

    if( $_POST['user_lat'] && ! $_POST['user_long'] || ! $_POST['user_lat'] && $_POST['user_long'] )
    {
    bp_core_add_message( __( 'You need to provide both a latitude and a longitude.', 'scuba' ), 'error' );
    $error = true;
    }

    if( ! $error )
    {
    $lat = apply_filters( 'sv_sanitize_user_input', $_POST['user_lat'] );
    $long = apply_filters( 'sv_sanitize_user_input', $_POST['user_long'] );
    $id = apply_filters( 'sv_sanitize_user_input', $_POST['user_id'] );

    $loc = array(
    'user_lat' => $lat,
    'user_long' => $long
    );

    update_usermeta( $id, 'user_location', $loc );
    bp_core_add_message( __( 'Your location has been updated!', 'buddypress' ) );

    do_action( 'sv_successful_location_update' );
    }
    }

    bp_core_load_template( apply_filters( 'sv_xprofile_template_update_location', 'profile/location' ) );
    }

    Then you obviously need a template file as well in your theme in the profiles folder. I use the above code to let the user pick his geo position on a google map and then I display the users on a flash map on the members directory page.

    9 hours and you had a support guy with you? You can set it all up in about 10 minutes. You have to read the instructions,though, mind you :)

    Size doesn’t matter, right? ;)

    Anyways, adjusting some css should do the trick. set your logo as the background image of the a tag, give it the width and the height of your logo and then move the text out of the screen using text-indent.

    Something like this (put it in custom.css, which you might have to create under _inc/css/):

    #header h1 a {
    background:transparent url(../images/buddypress/bp_logo.gif) no-repeat left top;
    display:block;
    height:42px;
    text-indent:-999em;
    width:180px;
    }

    By the way, a little searching here on the forum would have given you the answer as it’s come up a few times already.

    enjoy!

    oh, one more thing. any idea when it’ll show up in the trunk? cheers!

    very cool! not a big fan of that huge blue header. i’d have made it a light color as well. it would have been kind of like the sandbox theme, just prettier. but since that’s the only bad thing i can say about it, i guess that means the new theme is an outstanding piece of work :) well done!

    Oh, yeah! Forgot that we’re on 1.1.3 now…

    I guess you mean 1.2? That’s the latest trunk version. I suggest you contact the theme author and ask him to update the theme.

    You need to change some urls in the database as well. You can do a search & replace for your old/new url.

    I guess it’d be fairly straightforward. You’d probably have to remove some actions, rewrite a few functions and use either phpmailer (included with WP) or swiftmailer (which I prefer) in those functions and then add these functions to the actions you removed earlier on.

    Actually you’d need to use

    bloginfo('stylesheet_directory')

    template_directory gets your parent theme directory, while stylesheet_directory gets your child theme directory

    WP and BP can do whatever you want if you have the necessary skills, enough time and/or money to pay someone.

    You asked why someone would go to other sites when you could get it all from your site. The answer is because these other sites, like YouTube, do one thing and they do it very good. Plus they offer an incredible API that lets you offer their services on your own site.

    These sites already have millions of users and now you’re asking these users to quit YouTube and move across to your site? Most likely not going to happen. There’s not much point at the moment in creating a general purpose social network at the moment. It’s niche networks that matter and stand a chance of success.

    Just my 2 cents.

    xevo, actually basic privacy control is being planned for version 1.2 as a core feature. it might be jeffs plugin or it might be something different, but it most definately is within the bp timeline. As it should.

    the same for the quick blog post actually.

    @anonymized-96400

    Well, the link you posted above in your first post will work on any domain and you won’t have to change a thing, except you might want to use get_stylesheet_directory_uri() instead of get_template_directory_uri(). The first function returns the child theme location (if there is one) while the second one returns the parent theme location.

    The WPMU and WP code will be merged at some point, maybe for version 3.0. For the user it’ll probably be hardly noticable. It’ll be another option you can turn on or off in the backend, so there’s no reason to wait. You want to start a project now, then do it.

    There really isn’t any dilemma :)

    You can’t just duplicate functions.php. That means that you have a few functions declared twice and the sidebars registered twice. Start with an empty functions.php file in your child theme folder and only add your custom functions, leaving all the functions from the bp-sn-parent functions.php out.

    @anonymized-96400

    You could do something like this instead of your normal registration function:

    function activate_extension()
    {
    global $bp;
    if( is_site_admin() )
    {
    $extension = new Your_Group_Extension_Class_Name;
    add_action( "wp", array( &$extension, "_register" ), 2 );
    }
    }
    add_action( 'plugins_loaded', 'activate_extension' );

    I don’t think it needs to be a widget. There’s enough hooks floating around that you can attach it to virtually anything worth attaching to. I’m just not happy bout the CSS to go with it.

    @anonymized-96400

    It means more code in buddypress-core. It might not be a lot, but even small things add up after a while. All I’m saying is that it should be a theme option and not bp-core.

    @anonymized-96400

    Because the whole blogs are used for a completely different purpose. Classifieds won’t fit into that context, no matter how much you separate them or use different post types.

    Basic categories won’t be too hard to code. It’d be great if you could release your code as is. I could take it from there, if it’s alright with you.

    @anonymized-96400

    Well, look at it this way. WordPress doesn’t have a feature like that, so why should BP? There are themes out there that let you do that and that’s fine. That’s the way it should be with BP as well. In time there’ll be a lot more themes and maybe some of them will implement uploading a logo image, but it should not be in core.
