You’re welcome ! ๐
Arigato @yoosuke san,
show results from only activity stream.
Stunning. It works for me. Did you tried with a specific word contained in a post, preferably one from the end of a long post, to be sure it is not registered as activity except ? Have you some plugins installed ? Deactivate all and see if you get a difference.
Also, activate the wordpress search widget and see if you get better result.
appearence > widgets, select “Search” – a search form for your site.When BP is on, they’re several search module. So you can search members on the members directory ou groups on the group directory.
Side wide activities are some how generic, so the swa activity doesn’t contain his own search form, but only a select filter which let’s you show result by type.
I would be grateful is someone could suggest why the file is not contained within the folder.
Once upon a time, after very looooooong and ice cold winter, a wolf came out of the deep forest. He was so hungry that he eat the index file. Miam ! ๐
Do not thank me. My pleasure. ๐
If you’re looking in buddypress/bp-activity/ folder, it’s normal that it doesn’t contain a index.php file. It’s a core folder who works internaly.
The index you search is in bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/activity/index.php
Note: this file is only the index for activities.If it is not the case, don’t worry. Reload a fresh copy and pray that it is not corrupted during the FTP transfer.
Don’t know which tutorial you follow, but if you learn BP, read absolutely the Codex.
If, as i guess, your concern is theming, see here:or here on the left sidebar index
In reply to: [Resolved] Editing User "Homepage"I already understood what you’re doing … and i know Michelie as i use also that dummy data plugin ! ๐
To be clear, BP page’s don’t exist. The one you declare during the install are used for internal purpose only. There’s no real possibility to style them, as they change their content depending of the context of the user navigation.
The only parts (in fact area fragments: header, footer, sidebar….) applied over the active component pages. You could style those in the bp-legacy folder and those of your theme (if you develop yours) or via a child-theme, if you use a third party theme.
All this is mostly done through CSS and a few custom function for deeper integration, in case of.So good luck with styling !

you asked for searching members by xprofile value. You want this on the member directory or in the backend ?Add custom filters to loops and enjoy them within your plugin

Do you think that I have to add my modified bp-legacy files to my parent theme as well?
For sure. If you don’t, the next BP update will overide this folder. Golden rule: never touch/modify any of the original plugin files.
Any change you make is to do in the child-theme, including the legacy files you added to it.You could also revert back, and try this function ( add it to child-theme’s functions.php)
function bpfr_filtering_activity( $retval ) { // activities to filter on, comma separated $retval['object'] = 'status'; return $retval; } add_filter( 'bp_before_has_activities_parse_args', 'bpfr_filtering_activity' );Read here for more details.

In reply to: How can I get the parent component of a page?i guess it is more some understanding on my side or some weird BP jargon ๐
hi @stingray1972,
How to get different infos in 21 group sidebars for Dummies.
TIP-OFF: we won’t built 21 sidebars, but only 21 different informations useable from within 21 groups.
We assume you have a theme with at least one sidebar and that this sidebar is visible when you’re on a group page.
We assume also that you have a child-theme, because we’re going to add some modification to it. And this must be done in a child or you loose any changes at the next theme update.Now that we have set the stage, let’s go further.
1) we have a sidebar
2) we need a place to set our extra information
3) we need a function to insert the info at the right placeYou follow ? Not to hard ? Ok, let’s continue…
– Make a copy of the original sidebar.php of your theme into the child-theme folder.
– open the copy and search in the code something like this:dynamic_sidebar( 'sidebar' )
– underneath you paste this:<?php if ( bp_is_groups_component() ) : do_action( 'xtragroup' ); endif; ?>– save the file.
Bravo ! You have installed a new placeholder in the widget area.
The result should look like this:
<div id="tertiary" class="sidebar-container" role="complementary"> <div class="sidebar-inner"> <div class="widget-area"> <?php dynamic_sidebar( 'sidebar-2' ); ?> <?php if ( bp_is_groups_component() ) : do_action( 'xtragroup' ); endif; ?> </div><!-- .widget-area --> </div><!-- .sidebar-inner --> </div><!-- #tertiary -->(example shows the code of the Twentythirteen widget area)
– open the child-theme functions.php (if not exist you have to create it)
– add the following snippet and save the file.
function xtra_group_sidebar() { // conditionnal - group name (slug format) - item if(bp_is_groups_component() && 'kill-bill' == bp_current_item() ): // your content echo 'what time is it Bill ? ' ; $my_date = date('H:i'); echo $my_date; endif; if(bp_is_groups_component() && 'groupe-2014' == bp_current_item() ): echo 'who knows ?'; endif; if(bp_is_groups_component() && 'rrrrrrrr' == bp_current_item() ): echo 'Groaaaar...'; endif; } add_action( 'xtragroup', 'xtra_group_sidebar' );– Be carefull: the snippet handles only 3 group.
– You have to add 18 more and change the names to those you use.
– Simply replicate for each the if (bp_is_groups_component(), the echo (or anything else) and the endif
– upload to the server and enjoy !EFD (end for dummies)
In reply to: widget for displaying forum posts?In reply to: Redirect after "Join Group"this button has two functions: Join group or Leave group and is ajax dependent. So you cannot modify it easily. See /bp-legacy/budypress-functions.php:1157 how it’s done.
The best approach is to modify the landing page when you go on a group. By default, you go to the group home page.
Add this to your child-theme functions.php
function bpfr_custom_group_default_tab($default_tab){ /** * class_exists() is recommanded to avoid problems during updates * or when Groups Component is deactivated */ if ( class_exists( 'BP_Group_Extension' ) ) : // $group=groups_get_current_group();//get the current group if(empty($group)) return $default_tab; switch($group->slug){ case 'XYZ': // group name (slug format) $default_tab='forum'; break; case 'another-group': // another group $default_tab='members'; // goes on a different tab break; // case etc, etc... default: $default_tab='home';// the default landing tab break; } return $default_tab; endif; // class end } add_filter('bp_groups_default_extension','bpfr_custom_group_default_tab');May this help ! ๐
Hi @laxmanvel,

In reply to: How can I get the parent component of a page?Hi @jreeve
you’ll find these informations, and many others, in /bp-core/bp-core-template.php
Line 790 and below.In reply to: [Resolved] Editing User "Homepage"I need a pages for members that will let them send each other messages
if you enable BP’s Private message component, the built-in message system will let each user send message to other members.
https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-components-and-features/messages/Except if i misunderstood you, i don’t see the utility to add an extra page for this.
Depending of which plugin you use to manage events, a subscribe to event page is most probably included in the plugin.
If messaging and event are your only need, you’re going overcomplicated for the moment. The only thing you have to do, i think, is to install correctly a theme and to check that BP is showing properly on it.
Once done, you can eventually customize the theme. But only if it doesn’t fit exactly with a event plugin. For the messages, if BP is ok, messages will be also ok.
Foundation first. The house after and the wallpaper at the end of the end !
In reply to: [Resolved] Editing User "Homepage"I guess the top right name is made with
echo $user->display_name;As you added an ELSE clause after the UL end tag, it would probably be better to hide the whole UL to avoid html errors to not logged visitors.

If you want to use it, you have to edit the po file with poEdit or similar software.You say
This is also affecting coding on the front end of the site that users need for interaction.Which coding are you telling about ? Are your user allowed to publish code on front-end ?
The solution below is valuable for front-end publishing only.
If you want to see the “skill” profile field data on another page, like a custom page, you have to add a placeholder (do_action(the_skill) to this page template.
As you’re outside of the profile loop, you also have to fetch a user_id to get the data.
Add this function into the child-theme functions.php or into bp-custom.php
function bpfr_field( $custom_field ) { global $bp; // is xprofile component active ? if ( bp_is_active( 'xprofile' ) ) // fetch the user_id $current_user = wp_get_current_user(); $current_user_id = $current_user->ID; // fetch the data $custom_field = xprofile_get_field_data('42', $current_user_id); // 42 is a field ID // show the data echo '<div class="authorinfo">'. $custom_field . '</div>'; } add_action( 'myfield', 'bpfr_field', 1 );And this piece of code goes into the template.
<?php do_action( 'myfield'); ?>Of course you can also use an existing placeholder. In this case, you just have to modify the add_action ($placeholder, $function)
The question was: what WP config do you use ? Multisite or single install ?
Anyway, at this stage, you preferably ask your host or check his support.
Wow ! are the menu items not showing only or also missing in the source code ?
And as you see it’s not affecting buddypress, but WordPress.Suggest you ask on their forum.
