    @possip,

    what i wanted to say was that if you use the allow header image option, BP will use a different header template. When you don’t use this option, BP will use member-header.php

    The’re two component who use header’s: members and groups.

    To handle groups header, it is exactly the same logic as for the members header.
    In the group directory (bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/groups), you have 2 files named group-header.php and cover-image-header.php where you can handle goup header customization.

    Try this plugin:
    https://github.com/r-a-y/buddypress-usernames-only

    For the “why”, perhaps it is because “chat” and “forum” have their own logic. Both aren’t part of BuddyPress.
    Note also that there is no obligation to use all the things appearing on the templates. If you don’t want them, symply remove or hide them.

    For example, the names who appear on profile header are effectively different. Why would you need to use both, that’s nonsense! I guess this is only in so you can choose which one is better for your project. And it is so because (probably) it is better and easier to choose between something you see thant between something theoretical exposed or detailed in code comments…

    Note that my remark concern only the appearence, not the internal fonctionality of username vs.displayname or nicename.

    Looking at the given code in the first topic let think that you try something hazardous πŸ™‚

    <h2 class='user-displayname'>

       <?php bp_displayed_user_displayname(); ?>

    <small>@<?php bp_displayed_user_mentionname(); ?></small>

    </h2>

    h2 is a title tag whith (generally) a fixed size, depending your theme. Whatever that size is, anything inside the title tag will be affected by his size.

    This means in this case, that your <small> tag is affected by <h2>. So if the h2 is set to 15px and small is not defined, both will be 15px.

    You probably have to declare correctly your CSS classes as explained here.

    FYI, there is a similar template which is cover-image-header.php which you c(sh)ould try to use for your modifications. Maybe the profile page will show up like you want, specially if you allow your members to change their profile header ? πŸ˜‰

    Password is relative to WordPress. Ask on WP’s support.

    Read first this:

    the author posts – members / search results

    and eventually ask on bbpress support forum.

    Telling which kind of forum install you use would be helpfull to help you.

    I’m a bit unable to help you, as BP Group Hierarchy is very outdated.
    By reading his support, you could find some intersting information, and even one about a forked solution, by @dcavins.

    So, even if it is a kind of “in progress” work, you could test/try to use the “new” version which is on github.

    General knowledge about Groups

    Groups

    Your question is really too vague (a way to reorganize the groups). Groupss can already be filtered by Last Active (default), Most Members, Newly Created, or Alphabetical.

    If not enough, you need to give more details about what you want.

    Sounds like a permalink refresh. Difficult to diagnose for a frequent issue. Often in this case, by simply going on the permalink page and click on Save can restart the whole thing. πŸ™‚

    bp-default theme is the old mandatory theme. BP doesn’t use it anymore since 1.9. This historical theme is only in for backpat compatibility perhaps still in use on some very old installs…

    Actually, BP fits to almost any modern theme, correctly formated and respecting WP’s code standarts.

    What you can try is to create in your child theme, a directory called “community” or “buddypress”.
    If you need to alter a bp template, you copy the original file from here:
    /plugins/buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/

    You copy only the file you need and you respect the folder structure who starts from /buddypress/.../

    Note that you if you want to use /community/ in the child, this folder is equal to /buddypress/ in the original template folder. You copy (for ex.) group’s index.php file.
    From:
    /plugins/buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/groups/index.php
    To:
    /themes/my_child/community/groups/index.php

    Not defined yet. It’s still a work in progress.

    Avatar upload path is: ../wp-content/uploads/avatars/user_ID

    Have you modified something in your htaccess file ?
    Have you added some custom function to your theme or to bp-custom.php ?

    Control also all your media settings on dashboard and don’t forget to check the permalinks.

    Finally, go to your server and check the wp-content/uploads/ permissions, including sub-folders.

    Deactivate the mail plugin and add this snippet into your (child)theme functions.php file and give a try:

    add_filter('wp_mail_from','custom_email_from');
    function custom_email_from( $mail ) {
    	$mail = 'noreply@example.com'; // Replace the email address here //
    	return $mail;
    }

    BP pages should be empty, and specially when you open them on dashboard. The content is dynamic and is added depending the context.

    Please read here to understand how this works:

    Configure BuddyPress

    In addition, read here the main reason for media upload limit and get some hints to (evtl.) increase it.

    Sorry, but as i said, you’re alone. If you’re stuck with coding, try to hire a dev.

    Hi,

    ever heard about MyCred plugin ? Give it a try, was initially made for BuddyPress… πŸ˜‰

    Note: bbpress can work with BuddyPress, but is a separate plugin, with his own support. Here we help only for BuddyPress.

    Hi,

    as you noticed, BP can’t do this. BuddyPress is member oriented, not “field” oriented.

    In the activity stream you will see a member’s activity (Exentric updated his profile), but you can’t expect to see that field ID 5896 on Exentric’s profile was modified.

    Note that with php, nothing is theoretical impossible, so feel free to code something who fit your need. But you’ll be alone to start this adventure.

    Hi,

    2 – define (β€˜WPLANG’, β€˜en_US’); in wp-config
    3 – Dashboard >> Settings >> General >> Site Language (buuddpress-en_US is not in the list)

    2 is no more necessary since WP 4.0. Remove it.
    3 is not intended to show in that list. General settings are for WordPress language, not for plugins.

    WP’s language files use only the domain name (en_UK.mo, en_US.mo, be_BE.mo, etc)
    Plugin language files like BuddyPress use their name in addition to the domain (buddypress-fr_FR.mo, buddypress-en_US.mo, and so on)

    In your case, you can use WP default language setting (english) and a more specific lang for BP, en_US. It is an avantage for you, as there are only few difference beetwen US and GB, and you can even omit BP translation, as it is coded in english. The situation is much more annoying for all other non english languages!

    BuddyPress doesn’t use breadcrumbs. This belongs to bbpress and sometimes to a theme or a plugin.

    Ask on respective support. Or try out this plugin.

    Please read WordPress Codex and follow the install instructions.
    Your issue is not related to BuddyPress.

    @danbp

    Installaling a plugin has nothing to do with settings!
    And it is not possible that WordPress recommands to use /something/ after index.php.
    If it does, please give the link to that documentation.
    Here the one related to htaccess. Normally this file is generated automatically the first time you install/activate WordPress. On a usual install, his content is “basic” (explained in the doc).

    Again, read through BuddyPress documentation.

    In fact, you have nothing special to do, except to control bp’s setting and WP’s permalinks. It is probably there where you have “index” appearing wrong.
