activities are very much coupled with ajax. And js is intolerant with a lot of little things such as css or code errors.
If you copied the whole bp-legacy/buddypress/ into your theme, it is like you had 2 bp install, or at least a core and two templateted BP. Even if child has priority in the template hierarchy, JS is not able to handle this such easily (more on BP Dev blog). So it is better to load only the needed legacy file to the child.
Can you show the code you use to filter the activity (pastebin or github) ?
In reply to: [Resolved] No button for finishing registrationBut the βFTP-Zugangβ for 1a-spielwiese.de is named: http://www.1a-spielwiese.de
Is this relevant oder equal? – Maybe relevant, but to get sure ask your hoster.Ask also on the wordpress forum as the install concern WP and not buddypress, the plugin
I’m not a developper so i can’t discuss more with you.
Also be aware that BP 2.0 -> 2.0.2 is a little buggy and not able to handle correctly profile groups in some cases. It’s fixed in trunk for 2.1.

In reply to: [Resolved] Editing User "Homepage"Any theme contains a page.php or buddypress.php if you use a child theme.
The username is coded like this:
<h1 class="entry-title"><?php the_title(); ?></h1>You simply add your conditionnal around the h1 line
if (….)
h1 the title
endifDon’t see exactly from where the name on the top right is coming. Is it the one on the Toolbar (howdy) ?
Give the codeOne thing again: you add ONLY the file(s) you want to modify into /child-theme/buddypress/ folder !
It happens often.
Better to post your snippet on pastebin or github and give the linksee fetch_visibility_level in bp-xprofiles-classes.php:393 if it helps you to go further.

Google is your friend: apache server aufsetzen
Alias, redirection,…
Most probably. πThe best place to get BP commented code is in the plugin files. Raw, when you don’t know exactly what to search.
Notepad++ is a good software to accomplish this localy.
Another good ressource is the Trac !
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/reportThe’re also online search engines like
http://phpxref.ftwr.co.uk/buddypress/nav.html?index.html
http://hookr.io/# (WP specific)In your case, customizing profiles would certainly start at the registration step, to fill in a (long?) form. So the first thing to get, is such a conditionnally form.
See Gravity Form or Formidable Pro. No idea if they integrate well to BP….
Your question about bp-custom is explained on the codex.
Defining a role is a large domain.
When you ask people for their interrest, knowledge, etc you finally get a good idea of what they are or can do or represent. Once you know that you give them a role.In other cases, you attribute them a role before knowing anything about them (eg. default subscriber role in the WP sphere). In this case anyway a pseudonym is enough. No need of extended profile field.
IMHO it depends of the strategy you want to apply to your visitors. And this is not a support question.
If we can make it work, I bet this post can be the beginning of a core Buddypress code update that can integrate this into the actual Buddypress Core.
Ambitious at least. I’m affraid you’re many steps away of this for the moment. Man lives by hope ! π
hi @mrapino,
i have no ready to use answer but study or try this plugin:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-conditional-profile-field/I don’t think you have to touch any buddypress file, except the profile templatevia a chil theme and to add some custom function or create a complete plugin, to achieve your need.
Anything concerning directly profiles is in /buddypress/bp-xprofile/ folder.
Maybe not a big help, but it’s all i could tell you for now. πHope that you understand this tutorial:
codex.buddypress.org/themes/bp-theme-compatibility-and-the-wordpress-default-themes/twenty-thirteen-theme/In reply to: [Resolved] No button for finishing registrationMy wp-config.php and my .htaccess are both correct, isnβt it?
Seems to be OK, yes !
I’m unable to answer the other question. One thing is sure: your site should load with or without www.
That said, depending your host, your site settings for the home and site url should match what is declared in your host account.
Read here what Dreamhost told about this. The explained principle can be applied in practically any case.Another explanation about “with or without wwww” here.
You could also double check what is exactly in the wp_options table for Home and Site Url on this page yoursite/wp-admin/options.php
Aside that, have you added salt keys in wp-config during the network setting ?
If not, get them from here.Hi @saurabhsjain91,
follow codex instruction:
https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-components-and-features/extended-profiles/Are you using two buddypress on the same account ?
What is your WP configuration ?Hi @rutzki,
are you responding to yourself ?
i dont find, where i have put in the german translation in the po file.
πIf you use poEdit, you can create your own copy of de_DE.po directly from the source on your local buddypress copy.
The .po file header information necessary to get all translatable strings:
msgid "" msgstr "" "PO-Revision-Date: 2014-08-06 02:16+0100\n" "MIME-Version: 1.0\n" "Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8\n" "Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n" "Plural-Forms: nplurals=2; plural=n > 1;\n" "X-Generator: Poedit 1.5.7\n" "Project-Id-Version: BuddyPress 2.0.2\n" "POT-Creation-Date: \n" "Last-Translator: \n" "Language-Team: \n" "Language: de\n" "X-Poedit-SourceCharset: UTF-8\n" "X-Poedit-Basepath: .\n" "X-Poedit-KeywordsList: __;_e;__ngettext:1,2;_n:1,2;__ngettext_noop:1,2;" "_n_noop:1,2;_x:1,2c;_nx:4c,1,2;_nx_noop:4c,1,2;_ex:1,2c;esc_attr__;" "esc_attr_e;esc_attr_x:1,2c;esc_html__;esc_html_e;esc_html_x:1,2c\n" "X-Poedit-SearchPath-0: ..\n"In reply to: BuddyPress integration with AweberHi @sapinfoasap,
it exist an official aweber integration plugin. Perhaps try it.
If you expect some help, please tell what you already did and doesn’t work.In reply to: Add profile field to 'Order By' drop down menudid you noticed that profile field datas are clickable ?
This default behaviour is intended to be use as a filter.Member A filled the Contractor field
If any visitor goes to member’s A profile and click on the Contractor field value, BP will show a list of all other members who also filled in this field. So what you want to get already exist !
In reply to: Hide Profile Navigation from non-friendsHi @dmccuiston,
here is another solution which let you remove easily nav and subnav items to any visitor and users who are not friends.
If one or all items are removed, a message is displayed.
Put these 3 functions in bp-custom.php or child-theme functions.php
function bpfr_view_profile_msg() { // msg in case the nav item is removed if ( bpfr_maybe_hide_friends_nav_etc( $retval ) ) echo'<h3>Sorry, you can only view the profile of your friends !</h3>'; } add_action( 'template_notices','bpfr_view_profile_msg' ); function bpfr_maybe_hide_friends_nav_etc() { $retval = false; // condition if ( bp_is_user() && ! bp_is_my_profile() && ! friends_check_friendship( bp_displayed_user_id(), bp_loggedin_user_id() ) ) { $retval = true; } return $retval; } function bpfr_hide_friends_nav_to_non_friends() { // stop if condition is not ok if ( ! bpfr_maybe_hide_friends_nav_etc() ) { return; } // otherwise we remove the nav items // bp topnav items bp_core_remove_nav_item( 'profile' ); bp_core_remove_nav_item( 'groups' ); bp_core_remove_nav_item( 'forums' ); //bp subnav items bp_core_remove_subnav_item( 'activity', 'friends' ); bp_core_remove_subnav_item( 'activity', 'mentions' ); } add_action( 'bp_ready', 'bpfr_hide_friends_nav_to_non_friends' );In reply to: Forwarding Messages@bphelp +1 for your proposal !
@akovia,
calm down please !
It’s not me who just arrived on this forum 2 days ago and posted words like “terrible shame” or “huge hassle and disappointment” and claimed for a “possibility” of an answer just because you filled a questionnaire. Mainly before a long week-end and hollidays season ! I understand your nervousness, as things don’t go as you want or need, but do not abuse. Also, i’s not because something was written in the documentation that you’re able to require their existence. The BP Codex is written by volunteers and on the other side, has intrinsically a short life time.
You received clear answers to your initial demand from @djpaul and @henrywright about the why and the how.
Rather than wasting time debating fairly negative, you can publish a codex page on how to use messages or a similar subject as you’re good informed on how it works. And as already suggested, you can also open an enhancement ticket.
In reply to: Forwarding Messagesoh I see: you are very picky ! π
The only way to be notified is this setting page (under the condition you activate BP’s private message component). And as you can see, there is no possibility to forward message.
On front or on back end.As an admin on our site, I am left with tons of unnecessary work when I need to forward messages to my mods from a user.
I’m a little stuned why you receive user messages if they want to contact a mod in fact. If you do unnecessary work, i would suggest you find a better handling method first. But i maybe wrong and this point is more subtle as i understand it here.
Anyway, this is your really specific BP usage. And so far i know, it is not a very common usage. BP cannot respond to absoulte any user usage. No software can do so.
As site admin, i never encountered any problem to contact the site members. And i never needed to create a friendship first to contact any of them. This action is only used when you want to invite members to join a private group.
So if you think you’re right, you’re free to ask for an enhancement on the Trac. If the devs will consider your demand as justified, you can begin to hope to receive satisfaction one day.
If not, or if you don’t want to wait, you’re free to develop your own solution.Of course i disagree with this opinion:
It was most certainly not designed with efficiency on mind.IMHO it’s better as nothing. Imagine one second that BP had no messaging system… The actual maybe rustical, incomplete or not responding exactly to your need, but would you be efficient enough to find another free and so powerfull software as BP is ? π
In reply to: Changing Group from "Private" to "Public"My Questions:
1. Has anyone experienced a similar issue?
> probably, with 2,208,785 downloads !2. Does it appear to be a bug or am I mis-interpreting a functionality?
> probably 2 nd option3. Any workarounds?
> next tree 3 steps back, enter the forest and run 500 yards and check under the oak. When a group is setup, you choose to make it public, private or hidden. Depending on this status, the activity will be shown or not. Details of this are explained on the group creation page.
- For a public group, all activities are public. Group is listed on group directory.
- For a private group, all activities are private and only be visible to members of the group. Group is listed on group directory.
- For a hidden group, any thing is masked except for the group members. Group is not listed on group directory.
If you create a private group the 3 of may 2014, his activities are registered to the bp-activities tab from this date with a status of “private”.
The 17 august 2014 you decide to modify the group status from private to public.
From now on, the group is considered as public and any activity generated in the group after this date will be considered as public. In a few words, private activities are/and stay always private and public activities are always public, independantly of the group status.
And the activity feeds don’t look back in the past.Hope to be clear. π
In reply to: Forwarding MessagesHi @akovia,
each logged in user has access to his profile settings. Eg. on the top right user menu (howdy…)
or on the buddybar under the profile header./membres/xxxx/settings/notifications/
Settings > Email
Once on this setting page, each user can decide for what he want to receive an alert. But it is an emailed notice he will receive, not the complete message.
This messaging system is intended to work internally. This means the content of the message stays on the site. BP eventually sends only a reference to the content. Eg. xxx send you a private message (site url), not the full message.
