    allowing users to upload to your server some documents is a very bad idea while the registration process.

    When a user register, you don’t know if he’s a human or a spam bot.
    That’s why a newly register user is only pending and why he has to return an activation key before it is considered as a site member.
    Or the site admin can ban him during the pending time, for some reason.
    As long as you don’t be sure, a minima, of your new member, don’t allow him anything except viewing the site.

    You’re talking about pdf, doc and docx, but on the register page nothing appears about what type of file they have to upload (as it is required) and for what !

    Here you’ll be able to upload images. Try it out now! is a bit vague. And i don’t think that BuddyDrive is intended to be on the register page.

    BuddyDrive is a per member based plugin and can be used on a profile or in a group. As long as a member is pending, meaning doesn’t really exist, it cannot work.

    Ok thank you! Now i’m curious about /my-stuff/ 😉

    What is /my-stuff/ page for ?
    It contains a shortcode [woocommerce_my_account] and /activate/ cannot be found as you don’t use that shortcode or even woocommerce… Sems you omitted something.

    You should have only one activation page and this page should appear/be saved in BP settings > pages under Activation page.

    Check also your BP components page permalinks. Should be your-site/activity, your-site/members/, your-site/groups, your-site/register, your-site/activate

    If you have some pages with similar names in trash, delete them completely.

    Can you detail your installation please ?

    Where is WordPress installed ?
    Where is BuddyPress installed ?

    @danbp

    See BP settings > page and assign a page to each of activated BP components.

    Configure BuddyPress

    You forgot your site URL !

    Can you check that you have correctly setup DNS on your windows machine ?

    Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc, open HOST file where you should have both:
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    ::1 localhost

    AND

    127.0.0.1 your_site
    ::1 your_site

    If this doesn’t work for you, try a virtual host config.

    The codex is maintained and written by volonteers since BP exist. (2007)
    Codex explains principaly how BP works. It is not the place to get some ready to use tips or code for special cases.

    For such things you have the forum where you can search or ask for.

    If you have ideas or enhancement request, you can open a ticket for this on Trac.

    The standard (members)activity loop action is not random, but current_action (depending if you’re on the SWA, your profile or in a group activity) and chronological to any activity, in order they came up (again in the limit of previous mentionned tabs).

    Yes BP has “6 years old code” in it which is already working ! 😉 What would you say if BP code changed every week !

    Now to your question. You have several option to do that, which needs you to be confirmed.

    Only the activity directory should show Friends activities by default ?
    All activity walls should show friends activities by default ?

    In the first case, only logged in user will then see something, and only if they have friends. Else they’ll see nothing !

    In the second case, you’ll get the same behave on All mentionned places.

    If a friends activity filter is not implemented there, it’s because it’s more logical that users can get this information from within a profile. It’s not very pertinent on the main activity page.

    But you can anyway code it, as explained in your first link.
    Or much simplier, by using this way:

    Using bp_parse_args() to filter BuddyPress template loops

    Hi,

    WP MS + BP should be installed at the root: example.com/
    Default user role on main site is: subscriber (see wp settings for that)

    BP settings allows you to let users create a blog.
    A new user create a blog which goes as subfolder: example.com/the_new_blog/

    User from the main (subscriber) created the new_blog and is now blog admin of his blog and subscriber on the main blog.
    He can only access his own blog dashboard but cannot go to the main site dashboard.

    They are several WP plugins which let you customize the toolbar and many WP snippets you can use to do it by yourself. For example removing some of WP items, or adding some conditionnals to shows them to certain roles only.

    BuddyPress uses templates and depending what a member does and where, such a template is fired.
    Most of these BP templates are using a loop which you can customize. See Codex for details on each and what you can do with extra template params.

    And no theme ? 😉

    Seems that you have actually two theme declared on your site.
    And apparently one of js function (jmigrate) is deprecated.

    Note also that BuddyPress doesn’t work when WP is in its own directory. Both should be in the same directory.

    Have you tried by using Twenty Fifteen or one of the other WP default theme ?

    hi @dingxiaohan,

    default general usage of notification is explained on our Codex:
    https://codex.buddypress.org/member-guide/notifications/

    Each topic can be followed by the author and all who answer on a per topic base. Email you’ll receive in this case will show the topic url and a brief excerpt.

    A little different is BP Live Notification plugin, which add a Facebook Like real-time notification for user.

    Some other way to use and show notification can be done by coding a little, which is explaine here.

    Just to let you know there is a new plugin (since 2015-3-29) which comes with an API who let you handle any post type. See Favorites.
    Maybe you can built something with it.

    There is: let the user add his location himself !
    Imagine you ask them their prefered dishes ? Would you give them a pre-buid list of dishes ? Probably not…

    For countries, you have already the list built-in WordPress. Question is, are you cibling the world or only UK and his over 1050 towns&villages ?

    @danbp

    No idea… you should deactivate your plugins and test one by one.

    @danbp

    Participant

    hi @shanebp

    thxs for that, much simplier solution…

    Except when OP goes to settings, all is marked YES by default. Mine shows NO. So i think it doesn’t “work” as expected. Did you tested ?

    Anyway, in both case, it’s firstly a visual effect until new registered user save his settings.

    You’re connected to BuddyPress support forum, where you can get some help. There is no other way for that.

    Nobody here can debug your site at your place. If you’re unable to do that, you can use BP Job Board to hire somebody.

    No One Seems to be able to assist me here.

    🙄 You apparently use a premium theme (sixteen plus), which make things more difficult anyway, as we have no free access to it’s code. And you use a lot of plugins… And perhaps some custom function in your theme functions.php or bp-custom.php.

    No idea what happens and i’m unable to reproduce what you describe.

    See here if you can apply what is described by @r-a-y.

    hi @mcpeanut,

    this snippet useable from BP 2.0.1 and above, can be added to bp-custom.php
    it will hide the field ID 1 which is the default Name field to all, except site admin.

    it will also avoid the user to edit that field. So if you use this, i recommand you tell them on register page that once they entered a name it they could change it later. You can than ask them $$$$ to do it. 😀

    function bpfr_hide_profile_field_group( $retval ) {
    	if ( bp_is_active( 'xprofile' ) ) :

    	// hide profile group/field to all except admin
    	if ( !is_super_admin() ) {
    		//exlude fields, separated by comma
    		$retval['exclude_fields'] = '1';
    		//exlude field groups, separated by comma
    		$retval['exclude_groups'] = '1';
    	}
    	return $retval;

    	endif;
    }
    add_filter( 'bp_after_has_profile_parse_args', 'bpfr_hide_profile_field_group' );

    More here:

    Using bp_parse_args() to filter BuddyPress template loops

    hi @5high,

    users default email settings concern

    • activity
    • messages
    • friends
    • groups

    Each has is own screen template.

    ie. activity is in /bp-activity/bp-activity-screen.php

    In each xxx-screen.php there is a function containing the variables and the html for the checkboxes.

    Respective functions are:

    • bp_activity_screen_notification_settings()
    • messages_screen_notification_settings
    • friends_screen_notification_settings()
    • groups_screen_notification_settings()

    You copy those 4 functions into your child-theme functions.php
    and rename each to my_something.

    ie. my_bp_activity_screen_notification_settings()

    At the end of each function you’ll see the action hook, which you rename accordingly
    ie.
    add_action( 'bp_notification_settings', 'bp_activity_screen_notification_settings', 1 );
    wil be changed to
    add_action( 'bp_notification_settings', 'my_bp_activity_screen_notification_settings', 1 );

    Before this line, you add the remove_action action. ie.

    // removing the original action
    remove_action( 'bp_notification_settings', 'bp_activity_screen_notification_settings', 1 );

    // add our custom action
    add_action( 'bp_notification_settings', 'my_bp_activity_screen_notification_settings', 1 );

    Now we have to modify in each function the default Yes to No.

    At the begin of each, you’ll see some conditionnals begining by if(someting….)

    ie. activity-screen you have:

    • $mention = 'yes';
    • $reply = 'yes';

    Simply change that to no, save, and you’re done.

    Hope this helps ! 😉
