@jamrizzi Could you share the location of the string so that I could take a look?
In reply to: Manually create activity postsI have no idea how to do that, but just to clarify, I think what you are trying to do is exactly what @modemlooper suggested, it appears you’re trying to “change the location” from the groups activity to the user activity, maintaining the proper date, user and etc. Correct?!
If that’s the case, maybe there is a way of automatically copying, with PHP, from the group to the user activity. The user is already set, because it is not gonna change, just the location is gonna change (it’s not gonna continue in the Groups, it’s gonna to the user activity). After copying, you could delete the groups activity and deactivate the Groups Component.
I’m not aware how BuddyPress works with urls, but you would probably need to update to reflect the new location.
In reply to: Making Plugin activity show in Activitiy Stream@barney92 I think she meant “using”.
@anna_tianna My best advice would be to consult the plugin author, as he/she understand the plugin better than anyone, so that he/she could highlight better how to implement it or implement himself/herself.
As far as your searching and thinking goes, I think the link you provided would help in part, but still the developer (you or a hired one) would need to understand how this plugin you’re using works to integrate with BP.
In reply to: display profile fields in member header@cdb3212 As far as I understood your problem, there are two articles that would save your life if you had a chance of looking in the Codex. These are:
Take a look at those and try it out. =)
In reply to: Need initial advice on custom design capabilitiesHi @theatereleven,
I’d say that what you aim for is perfectly possible with BuddyPress. You could the following, just suggestions:
- Your users could register themselves;
- Just active the Extended Profile component;
- Use Extended Profiles Fields so that your users can add information when signing up or later;
- And you could customize the appearance customizing the template the way you want.
Maybe there is a better solution, but with BuddyPress you would get already built-in, profiles, profile fields, register process/page, user roles and etc.
In reply to: Ajax ActivityEnglish Answer – @stuffgrid As I myself told you in the BuddyPress Brasil Facebook group, it is not a BP problem. The problem lies in the ajax, js conflicts that your theme is using. Besides, when I looked at it, it seems it lacked some customizations in some BP files.
In reply to: Registration page – how to get SSL working?As your first question, this is not a BuddyPress problem, you should check out the WP Doc for more information on how to do this. https://codex.wordpress.org/Administration_Over_SSL
For your second question, I believe it is redirecting from the WP login into the BP login page.
In reply to: 2.5.3 Easy change bbpress title font and colorThanks for sharing @webbmasterpianise. If possible, also share it in the bbPress forum, I think some folks could benefit from it over there. =)
In reply to: How to add favorite button to posts?I don’t think this is related to BuddyPress. Check out some possible plugins here: https://wordpress.org/search/favourite+posts
In reply to: Register for wordpress but opt out of buddypressInteresting question. As far as I understand, WordPress and BuddyPress, when at the same installation, they share the same user base/database. So at first, I’d say this is not possible.
But, I could think of a few areas where it’d be possible.
- In a multisite installation;
- Installing another version of WordPress in the same server, something like, (var/yourwebsite/www/) , (var/yourwebsite/www/buddypress)
.
Maybe there is a way, I can’t think of one right now. But let’s see if anybody else have some ideas share. =)
Check out this thread: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/username-vs-display-name/ Maybe it can help.
In reply to: [Resolved] Username vs display nameAs far as I can tell, you can copy the template into your theme and from there, alter to the desired output without affecting future BP updates.
In reply to: Set a default sidebarYou could create sidebar-buddypress.php and change the BuddyPress page you are using to load this particular template:
<?php get_sidebar('buddypress'); ?>That would be one way of doing this.
In reply to: View Topic Post prior to postingHi @batmanfan, I make @hnla’s comment, mine. I’ve never used this plugin before, but I know what it does.
You’ll have better luck posting your question in the appropriate forum. =)
In reply to: How to make a network of multiple domain namesI don’t think this is the one, as this is related to a WordPress Multisite and it seems not your intent.
But test it out and see if it suits your needs. =)
In reply to: BP search boxAll right, I understand your point and agree. The problem I see is that the search function is related to the searchable information in her profile, not in her profile description, or Bio as you call in your website.
Some examples to clarify:
If you search “creative”, it brings her as a possible result.
If you search “counselling” (not counsellor), it brings her as a possible result.
And if you search “creative counselling” (what’s actually searchable) you can find it.What she is trying to search, creative counsellor, is not searchable and possibly, nobody had used it before. So no match is available.
Also, if you click in her “Job Title”, you will see exactly what I mean.
My reason is that you want to add not only the searchable areas but also any text. I’m not sure how to do that, but maybe there is a plugin around WordPress to help.
In reply to: How to make a network of multiple domain namesYou can have different domains in a WP MU installation. But in case you don’t want to use WP Mu, there is a plugin in WPMUDEV that I think can make what you aim for.
http://premium.wpmudev.org/projects/category/plugins/ – Unfortunately i don’t remember its name, but I remember its job is to duplicate content and user across websites/domains.
In reply to: BP search box@loufernando I did a simple search and it did returned some results.
In reply to: View Topic Post prior to postingIt is not a BuddyPress related question, but here it goes. At CSS-Tricks, Chris Coyer is using this plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/live-comment-preview/) to allow the user to preview their answer in the bbPress.
It is not the topic, but I think you can make it work.
@focallocal As far as I understood, you are trying to create a different layout for the Group Home Page.
If that’s the case, I’d recommend you check the Theme Development Documentation (https://codex.buddypress.org/themes/), you would create a custom template for the Group Home Page and let it the way you feel best.
Now about embedding a forum in a WP page, I know bbPress have the shortcodes (https://codex.bbpress.org/shortcodes/), you could check in the documentation how to make what you aim for.
In reply to: "Forums for Groups" vs "Site Wide Forums"@batmanfan You can make a forum private, public or hidden.
Check out the doc: https://codex.bbpress.org/getting-started-with-bbpress/You have no idea what you can learn by reading it. =)
In reply to: How to make a network of multiple domain namesHi @iwishiknew,
what you trying to achieve can be accomplished with WordPress Multisite (WPMU), except for the shared forum part (maybe it is possible, if it is, I don’t know how).
In a WPMU, you can have, through sub-directories or sub-domains, several high level domain using the Domain Mapping plugin. I use it in my personal blog and it works fine.
It is also possible to make one user to access the other websites in the network, without having him/her to register again.
With the foruns, I would create different bbPress instalations in each website. In this way, although the users base could be shared, the forums would be related to each particular domain in the network.
In a nutshell, I’d assume that what you want is possible, except for the shared forum part. If it possible, please, let me know.
Plugins you’d use:
Domain Mapping – https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/
MU User Management – https://wordpress.org/plugins/multisite-user-management/@matt-mcfarland very great guide. It is really helpful for us not PHP developer who thinks that accomplishing something like that would be hard work to do.
If you may, I’d recommend working this tutorial better and adding it to the Codex page. You talked in your guide that something like this hasn’t in the Codex, so please, add to it. The community will appreciate it. =)
In reply to: Buddypress for subdomain?The procedure explained in the article doesn’t apply. What would work for you is to install another WordPress installation in the subdomain with the only purpose of hosting BuddyPress. I’m not sure if that’s what you’re trying to do bu I’d recommend using WordPress Multisite for that.
In reply to: Database Update Required!?!I see, my point is that, if you have automatic updates activated, this would be the second phase of the update, updating the database.
