@travel-junkieTechnically, we should all be posting to this thread:
I posted a quick message in here to make sure everyone heard about it, as not everyone checks the 3rd party plugins forum regularly.
Yes, the testers are quite good, if there is something wrong with a plugin they will probably find it. At the far right of the spreadsheet is a column listing the errors they found.

^F^
68 plugins tested + 224 plugins in the work queue. Test team on fire!

@DJPaul
Sorry for the contact message yesterday. The tester didn’t know you were a core dev.^F^
We’ve modified our BuddyPress test install with your patch and deployed it to our testers. There could be up to a 24 hour delay before they cut over to it though.
Thanks!
^F^
@boonebgorges You’re welcome …

We’ve thrown some resources your way!
1) Our testers are currently checking every BuddyPress plugin with > 1000 downloads. Our throughput is about thirty a day. Thus far, 85% fail (as in cannot be used) rate.
http://code.google.com/p/buddypress-media/wiki/DOCS_BP_OnePointFive
@karmatosed …email me [CarlRoett] -at- [Gmail.com] and we’ll give you write access to the spreadsheet and wiki.
2) Our core devs are currently building a wiki to help other developers transition their plugins. Estimated finished in 2 days.
http://code.google.com/p/buddypress-media/wiki/DOCS_BP_FixingPlugins
3) OurSIGINT guys are doing their best to contact everyone with incompatible plugins and give them a “heads up”. We didn’t know about 1.5 until we stumbled across it in the forum, and we suspect the situation is similar for many other developers.
Hope this helps get things rolling!
^F^
Can you tell we really, really want 1.5 released to production…

BuddyPress Media is now fully compatible with BuddyPress 1.5. We have a beta version available at the link below, and we’ll issue a release to production next week (once our test team are finished with it).
http://code.google.com/p/buddypress-media/downloads/detail?name=bp-album_2011-08-07_BETA.zip
When listing us on the compatible plugins page, please list us as “BuddyPress Media”, and link to this URL: “http://code.google.com/p/buddypress-media/”. BP-Album will *cease to exist* after BuddyPress 1.5 is released (it will turn into BuddyPress Media).

@boonebgorgesOn behalf of the Buddypress Media team, congratulations on your new release. We’ve spent the past three days going through your code, and we’re just *astonished* at the improvements in structure, efficiency, and documentation!
This could be worth cake …

We’ll be dropping by your dev chat this Wednesday to bombard you with questions and talk about what we can do to help get other key plugins working with 1.5 as quickly as possible.
See you there!

BP-Media team checking in. We’re currently updating and should be fully compatible in 1-2 days.
Here’s the tracker item: https://www.pivotaltracker.com/story/show/16654795
^F^
@T3Kaos
This is relatively easy to do using BP-Album+. Just install the plugin (available here) then paste the “Global Media Page” action (documentation) into the user profiles template and set it to filter by the current user.^F^
A)
Both of these problems are mostly solved! Yay!Use Pivotal Tracker for managing BP-Media. Its *free*, its *awesome* and has a rich, well-documented API for creating integrations with other apps (of which there are at least thirty posted). But for for “enterprise level” projects, Pivotal isn’t “quite* enough, and we might be scraping together money and giving The Atlassian Suite (JIRA , Confluence, Studio) a try in the near future …because they have such nice integration.
Overall start with the simple, free aps, and migrate to the more sophisticated suites as you develop your skills.

Use BuddyPress Media for file handling. The new content modules in 0.1.9 can be adapted to handle anything from ORTEL schematics to SolidWorks Models.
Thanks!
^F^
Finish it and upload it to the task on the tracker then.
If the other member submits their translation, we will distribute both of them with the plugin.
Thanks!

Another team member has ownership of the Spanish translation task. However, they have not confirmed that they have started on it yet.
If they do not respond within 24 hours, I will let you start on it.
Thanks for helping out!

BP-Album+ doesn’t have a cropping tool.
Please point me to the link you used to download the “BP Albums” plugin that you are referring to.

Oh I’m sure @foxly & @francescolaffi development inc will come up with something. It’s just that not having it part of the core makes much harder to develop, because frankly, BuddyPress doesn’t currently have many useful hooks for plugins to manipulate the core. So you have to hack the system in all sorts of crazy ways and that can really slow down the site.
And then there’s the whole issue of *where automattic is taking buddypress” and what they intend to do with it, now that they’ve taken Andy off as the lead developer.
EDIT: what I meant to say was “now that Andy is not working *full time* on BP anymore, as automattic has split his time between other topics” – my bad

^F^
Basically, nothing happened.
I sense that there are some politics at play here, so I’m going to keep my head down. When spam becomes a problem on the sites I run, I’ll develop my own solution.
^F^
For version 0.1.9 nightly builds, the option is located in BP Album -> Plugin Settings -> Page Slugs -> Base Slug
Change it. Click save. Done.
Thanks!

Try disabling BP Album+ We interact with the activity stream in different ways, and some of our suers have been reporting problems. Ideally, try to prove causality … IE: deactivated BP Album+ *3 days* ago* and NOW pictures from the software are starting to flood the activity stream.
Thanks!
^F^
Maybe you should …seriously… here’s why:
Every platform eventually reaches a point where people come to the platform because of the software you can run on that platform …not the platform itself. Few people talk about how awesome Windows 7 or Linux or the latest version of Mac OS or even the iPad are as an operating system. Instead, they talk about all the fantastic applications you can run on them and as a result, make people excited about the platform.
I think that’s largely becoming the case with BuddyPress. I mean, we’re basically at the point where everything that’s going to be in the core platform has already been written. I really doubt we’ll see complex things like media hosting or Facebook connectivity or whatever the next big app is being integrated into the BuddyPress core, because they’re not features everyone will use.
So when people come to the forums posting things like “please assure me this is not a dead platform, because I haven’t seen any major changes in months”, it would probably be best to show them all of the new and exciting stuff being developed for BuddyPress, and that the platform is actually thriving.
Just my thoughts, anyway.

@nuprn1 @tober11 @r-a-y @hnla @thekmen
Just to confirm to the group that this problem *was* due to a defect in the BP Album+ *nightly build* code (not the release version).
Based on the excellent debugging info provided by @thekmen, we were able to quickly isolate and correct this problem. It has been fixed in all nightly builds from 0.1.9.2010-06-25 onwards.
Debugging a complex application like BP Album+ is a team effort. If you ever suspect a problem on your system is being caused by BP Album+, contact us right away. We will do our best to replicate the problem and give you an answer as quickly as possible.
Thanks!
^F^
[EDIT] Removed link to BP Album, added more plugin examples.
Dying a slow death???? Pfft… whatever!
There’s one team (BP Album+) working on FaceBook Media + Flickr cloned for BuddyPress, coming out in a week or two. There’s another dev (BP Links) working on content linking and import from almost any imaginable site, and another dev (Facestream) working on BPFacebook integration.
I think we’re just beginning to discover some of the amazing thing that can be accomplished with BuddyPress.
^F^
@Erich73 it gets better than that.
Check out the opportunities for naughty fun it creates…

I’d say we’ll have a full release ready to post to the plugin repo in 2 or 3 weeks. Maybe sooner.

We just posted a major new beta that we’d like people to help us test.

Also, now that Google’s sponsoring us, we’ll be adding support for almost every imaginable content type over the next couple of months.
Thanks!

I think it’s time you tried the latest BP Album+ beta…

https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-album/forum/
With regards to the concerns in your blog post, the reason the BP Album+ team appears to be making “slow” progress isn’t because we’re working on it part-time. Indeed, between our members in Canada, Italy, and our other contributors, the plugin is literally being coded 24 hours per day.
It’s because we’re designing something that runs solidly and can do what people want it to do.
Take for example group image galleries for forums. Sure, we could do a crappy job and have that added sometime in the next 8 hours. Like certain other developers. But if we’re adding that functionality, I think it needs to handle cases like:
-Users that are members of the group, but cannot upload images.
-Limiting number of photos a group member can upload based on role.
-Hiding uploaded images until an administrator approves them
-Sorting images within the group album by member that uploaded them
-Handling images contributed to the group by members that are suspended / kicked out of the group / deleted from the site
-Pushing group images to the latest images and latest group feeds, and then having them properly link back to the gallery.
-Hooks for monetization options. Only the small version of image is uploaded to group album. Full version costs money. And so on.
But you see, if you don’t plan this stuff ahead of time you can’t add a lot of those features in the future because you’ve jammed yourself into a corner. Because the permalinks to the images are in the activity streams and if you move the images you’ll break the links. We’ve spent a huge amount of effort building a plugin core that solves these problems.
Anyways, go download the beta and post some feedback in the BP Album+ forum.
Thanks!
^F^
We’re adding video embed to BP Album+ as part of our Google Summer of Code sponsorship. For the latest updates, check out the BP Album+ forum here:

We’ve just released a beta that’s a huge update over 0.1.7 and could really use some help testing it.
Thanks!
