In reply to: wp_enqueue_script issue on activity page
Should be hooked on ‘wp_enqueue_scripts’ though; the print_scripts and related hooks were deprecated back in 3.0 or thereabouts.
Why, remove what legacy files?
You do not want to be removing any files, especially never from core. Try to get past the word ‘Legacy’ ignore it’s inference as I think I’ve tried to explain in the past. The files under that folder are all the necessary template files, js, functions files for BP to function out of the box you can not remove any of them!
You can however as I’m sure doesn’t need stating copy them all over to your theme and edit to your hearts content, if not sure on this aspect please read through the guides we have written in the Codex for clarity.
In reply to: fatal error upgrading@adamt19 Please open a new topic on your problem, and provide detailed info on your setup and just what errors you are getting. The information you provide so far isn’t sufficient to be able to speculate on what is going wrong.
Closing this thread as it’s nearly three years old.
In reply to: [Resolved] Installing Buddy Press 404 errorYou should really add a quick note on what resolved the issue for you so others that read the thread might benefit.
But it would be your effort wouldn’t it? or have you given a whole heap of people access to your DB, I do hope not.
I would suggest that the best way of looking at this is that messages are private only in the sense that they may not be publicly seen by others but that in order to run a site the owner/admin has to have access in full to all sorts of aspects, and state as such in a set of terms & conditions for site use.
In reply to: [Resolved] Re-install Buddypress TablesPersonally I would guess that not all option entries were found and removed.
If creating a localhost dev copy of the site is too awkward I would suggest creating a new DB, then tell wp-config to use that one and do a fresh install to see how things fair, or if prepared to manually edit the DB further do so by creating a DB copy in phpMyAdmin and again switching to that one to work on; this way you preserver original which you can simply revert to using in wp-config if necessary.
In reply to: Managing group creationThere we go, a wealth of information!
In reply to: Managing group creation@xprt007 What else have you tried before asking this question here?
#1 would have been searching the forum archives for possible solutions from past threads (one of great benefits of forums are ever increasing db of information and help derived from questions & replies)
#2 would be to check the WP plugin repo searching one something like ‘spam’
In addition to danbp’s advice try installing Wanguard which seems to do a fairly good job along with perhaps a simple registration submission question – believe something called ‘BP-humanity’ might work.
btw I edited your topic title to remove ‘urgent help’ that’s not considered an appropriate phrase to enter on subject titles 🙂
In reply to: Cloudflare with buddypress????? You tell us!
How about explaining a little more about rocket loader for those who haven’t heard of it.Why remove the class, not a lot of point really to have it on one screen and not another.
The approach you should take is using descendent selectors to target your rulesets specifically. We have in the past gone through the bp body classes with a fairly fine tooth comb to ensure that no screens lack some form of unique class, so in CSS you will always have some class token that clearly identifies the screen you’re on.
The main activity stream is a directory, as is Members each has a further class, ‘activity’ & ‘members’, respectively.
You might therefore describe a targeted ruleset for main activity stream as:
.directory.activity li.groups.activity-item.rj-9 {}<i>be careful in over weighting rulesets, concatenating three selectors on the li element is likely not necessary, always start as light as possible with just the new group id, adding in the others if it proves a case that your properties are getting overwritten by ones more specific.</i>
Likewise if you wanted to actually target groups activity or user account screens you will find classes for those as well; groups: ‘single-item’, ‘group-home’; User accounts: ‘bp-user’, ‘activity’, ‘my-activity’
Keep an eye on the body element class attr to see what appears from screen to screen.
In reply to: Json api to groups pageBut you would, the code block in the centre isn’t JS it’s PHP and you have escaped out of PHP parsing so it will be treated as cdata.
Why are you thinking you need to use json functions?
Perhaps explaining exactly what your trying to achieve might prompt someone to suggest a better approach which there almost certainly is.
In reply to: Buddypress not Working@bucobill You have a different issue from that of the original posters, it’s for this reason amongst others that stepping into a running thread that wasn’t started by you with what is assumed the same issue is frowned upon and discouraged, multiple responses to different posters and issues in the same thread can not be supported. You must start your own thread on your particular issues. As a start point for your issue, looking at your url suggests you are on IIS or non standard apache type server running mod_rewrite head over to the WP codex and search on permalinks for some guidance on setting permalink structures under IIS.
@samchozx Likely your theme does something odd and non standard with page.php which BP needs to use to inject it’s content into, the_content() function must run through as normal in this file, you probably need to create a buddypress directory in your theme(as a child theme) and then copy page.php renaming it to buddypress.php and copied to the root of this new bp directory, that file then needs to retain the themes specific markup but properly use the ‘the_title()’ & the_content()’ functions. Please check the BP codex for guides on this process of overloading files, editing the actual file may require some help from the theme authors.
however we could also just add a new class to the bp body class function!
@rodgerfuller it won’t help in the short term but I have submitted a patch to core that adds the group name to the body class output so it will have ‘group-{my-group-slug}’
Can’t see a reason why we don’t do that, so if accepted you could patch your core file in advance of the next version being released.
even if not accepted you can quite easily filter into the WP_classes function and add your own, done in functions.php should mean it runs after BP has done it’s filtering into the WP function, this is what I do in all my functions.php for additional classes required.
This will get you some way there:
$classes[] = 'group-' . groups_get_current_group()->slug;You’ll need to filter that into the WP ‘body_class’ filter.
If you want something a little more complex then a plugin might be better, try something like:
In reply to: Buddypress not Workingand what happens if you change to an established theme that is known to work with BP i.e one of the core WP themes, 1014,2012 etc.
It’s important to troubleshoot some basics to establish where the core reason may lie.
BP works with a great many themes in it’s default Theme Compatibility mode but not all, there are sadly a vast number of badly written themes selling themselves as premium themes available from third party resources that BP won’t work with, so we need to establish whether this is a theme issue firstly.
In reply to: [Resolved] remove sidebarDo try to always check tech documentation before asking questions, while the codex is not 100% perfect we have put a fair bit of effort into writing articles to help & guide people, such a how to work with template files in BP.
In reply to: not recently activestylesheets are a client side processed file, you cannot place server side code such as PHP in them. To run code such as that filter you either run it from a plugin, your themes functions.php file or from bp-custom.php located in the plugin folder root (and user created – it doesn’t exist by default)
In reply to: Register CSS Style>I’m sorry I can’t do that.
Can’t do what/which?
Also what are you trying, what code, it’s difficult to suggest anything when not sure what you have tried that hasn’t ‘worked’ tbh if you want to customize then you will need to learn a little bit about how to use CSS, providing the styles for you will not really be possible as they need to sit within a particular theme.
If you have images you can paste them into posts, I apologise but I’m removing the link to that image service as it has dubious practises at work, too many third party ads and a very annoying re-direct to another site (casino type site) when you try and back out of the page.
@metasynchronic The post was closed as it wasn’t really a question that related directly to BP. it was in fact a question related more to servers and WP.
Was the BP install working before, when you installed via the auto install script, generally the strong advice is to avoid those auto installers like the plague, but that doesn’t mean they are all bad, but it would be very hard for us to advice in detail unless someone has direct experience of this particular installer. It is something that perhaps wpengine could advice on or at least run the import, set you up and if there are issues then re-install on the new server (which I would probably do anyway), if you’re moving to a new server/hosting might as well make the move then resolve issues there?
In reply to: using placeholder attribute instead of labelCertainly using JS is probably the easiest/sensible option here, if you know your controls should be simple enough to add the placeholder attr to them.
In reply to: Repair PagesAnd your register page does correctly appear so you’ll need to explain exactly what the issue is your having.
In reply to: Repair PagesWhen you say “solve the issue of repairing “Register” “Links” & “Activate” pages.” that generally means simply telling BP what pages you created should be used for these BP components.
You need to explain a little about the actual problem you are having doing this or is this some deeper issue with the custom theme you mention in which case you’ll need to clarify how that works where these aspects of BP are concerned.
In reply to: using placeholder attribute instead of label>removing the labels altogether.
Please don’t remove labels altogether, responsive design does not mean writing malformed markup contrary to the specifications, nor for that matter do the new html5 atts. placeholder text is nice but does not replace the proper use of label/control pairs.
http://www.w3.org/TR/html5/forms.html#the-placeholder-attribute>The placeholder attribute should not be used as a replacement for a label. For a longer hint or other advisory text, place the text next to the control.
WP has a convention for hiding label text using a class something like ‘screen-reader-text’ or ‘assistive-text’ can’t recall which and adding a ruleset to position the label element off screen(not! displayed none).
As for adding html5 atts to the additional profile field elements the only way will be if they have a filter, but think this is going to be tricky to implement.
>When I get this figured out I may be qualified to write a dummies-friendly tutorial – LOL
Did try and write it as noob friendly as possible 🙂
The editor im WP won’t show subfolders or used not to and it’s not a great idea to edit files this way or indeed have it running from a security point of view.
And the file paths/dir are vital as stated in the guide. When you are a little more familiar with the process of template hierarchy and theme compatibility have a read of the more advanced guide on how to further modify the template files for more specific actions.
In reply to: Hide the MEMBERS, GROUPS, ACTIVITY pagesbehind the membership options?
Every one of these pages have the REQUIRE MEMBERSHIP enabled to view (and all my membership levels are checked)
You seem to be talking about some third party approach to membership here, if that’s the case you really do need to acknowledge that in the opening question so we know how to respond best, bear in mind that buddypress doesn’t have any default membership options as you describe them.
? Does anything get updated in wp-content, considering it mainly holds themes – custom?, plugins, your uploaded images/files.
