    Ths should be fixed. Thanks for your patience.

    There are a few possible approaches to integrating them together, and the ones you need are possible even today. That’s actually exactly how bbPress works in the WordPress plugin repository, attaching plugins to tags in essence giving them their own ‘forum’ in a sense.

    The first iteration will probably closely mirror how things work today, for the sake of it being an easy transition for everyone’s existing data. The last thing we want to happen is to force anyone to make changes to their existing setups. In future iterations we’ll include some options on how you want to configure them to communicate to each other. This may be strongly theme dependent though, since all of these components would need to have the proper hooks and CSS in place to style these elements correctly in any of the places they might appear.

    Fixed in branch. 1.2.7 is eminent to resolve this issue.

    We do need to revisit this at some point. We made a switch over a year ago to use the login in the URL instead of the nickname, but I don’t exactly recall why. LDAP maybe?

    Agreed having some kind of method for BP installs to talk to each other would be pretty awesome. It would require breaking out of the ‘central server’ type method that I think we’re all used to and really require a robust api underneath everything.

    Patches welcome! :D

    `function new_group_is_admin_loop( $user_id = 0 ) {
    global $bp, $groups_template;

    if ( empty( $user_id ) )
    $user_id = $bp->loggedin_user->id;

    $groups_template = BP_Groups_Member::get_is_admin_of( $user_id );
    }`
    …or something similar? Untested so your mileage may vary.

    Chances are this won’t work, thinking back on it now. But, give it a shot. At the very least that function will return back the groups that the user is the admin of; you may need to do your own custom loop functions afterwards.

    Good idea. It would probably need to write the thumbnail to the activity stream directly (same as it does now) but would include a thumbnail if there is one.

    @rogercoathup Happy to talk privately about why I opted to block the person in question from buddypress.org. Don’t want to air the dirty laundry but rest assured it takes quite a bit to get to that point.

    @paulhastings0 Very little ‘risk’ but you’re on the right track. IMO one of the harder things about running such a large project is deciding what belongs in the core and why. It’s something that Andy was really strict about and did a great job of training me on because I was anxious to learn and asked for feedback with every patch I submitted for more than a complete calendar year before asking if he could use more ‘official’ help. You can look back through my commit history and see a few blunders here and there, as they’re fairly easy to make when you’re bouncing between installations. Every one of the guys you mentioned (including @cnorris23 and a few others) are the top of the list of being considered for core commit access. You could say it’s the next step on the ladder for each of these guys and they all deserve the promotion fairly equally.

    If/when it comes time, it will be a hard decision to make. :)

    Will need to ping Andy about the plugin group not syncing. I’ve seen that happen before but am not sure exactly what causes it.

    @metakappa The activity component needs to be matched up with the Activity Streams standard asap, and we’ll hopefully be able to do that in 1.3.

    @intimez If you block search engines, your site is set to private, and blog posts and comments won’t appear in the stream. Make sure the option to make your blog public is the one selected.

    Don’t thank me, thank @r-a-y! :)

    Bulk member moderation is on the roadmap somewhere, at least it used to be and would be very useful.

    Quick thoughts from my iPad…

    For there to be more core committers, there needs for there to be more outstanding core patchers. There are a handful of great ones already, and they are noticed and recognized for their contributions. The leads are Andy and myself, and ultimately the future of the core project is decided by us. Very similar to WordPress, we keep an eye on developer plugins to look for anything that would make a good core feature.

    Feature requests are great when there are people to do create them, but the best place to talk about core development is on the trac. The forums are more for support and discussion than they are for code talk, but part of that is also because currently the forums don’t play nicely with code blocks.

    I don’t think we’re closing threads unless the discussion goes severely off topic or is no longer productive. If we are, I would agree that we shouldn’t be locking topics prematurely. Regarding the codex, anyone has the ability to modify it, so if anything is out of date anyone is free to fix it.

    I also agree that things will be easier for us and make more sense when buddypress.org is a website worthy of being in its own showcase. Right now it’s a basic install with lots of custom bits to help integrate wp.org plugins.

    It hurts to just add committers for the sake of having committers. Commit rights are earned through writing great core patches and showing a comprehension for the direction of the core project. There are plenty of great plugin devs that have written thousands of lines of their own code, but haven’t directly contributed to core.

    Ultimately it would be great if we had one developer per core component to focus on it’s future, but so far no one has showed initiative to want to make improvements to anything. Right now we’re in a transition period where the branch and trunk need to be merged before I think a few more people are comfortable writing giant patches, but that time will come.

    Paul hit almost every nail on the head in his reply above. It’s great that you see the need, now fill it. :)

    Liked it so much, I added it to core for 1.2.6. Props r-a-y.

    It’s active now on testbp.org. Give it a try. Report bugs on trac please.

    Sounds to me like the theme needs to be upgraded too, as it’s trying to use the old news functions.

    @johnjamesjacoby

    It will get a sweep through for 1.2.6. :)

    It’s either a memory issue, or a PHP version issue. Forcing php5 and bumping up the memory is your best bet. There was a topic about it somewhere. I’ll see if I can find it.

    I have a surprise for you in the 1.2 branch of code. Check it out. :)

    You can download or checkout a copy of the 1.2 branch of code from the Trac.

    Branches should always be considered the most stable and up-to-date code for that specific version. Nothing untested or unsafe makes it into there, where as the trunk of code can go through extended periods of brokenness (like it has currently.)

    This is very much possible to do. Would be neat to see a setup using this.

    Yeah it’s a bug. Will work to fix this week.

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Until we fragment cache the bp-default template, this could be an issue in a few places. The way we combated it on testbp.org is to set the cache to refresh every 5 minutes. Not perfect, but it works for now.

    Looking at your site, do you have it caching for logged in users also? Obviously a majority of your traffic with BuddyPress is from logged in users, but all of the activity based bits are hard to cache dynamically until we can tell w3tc which parts to cache, and which are activity sensitive and to skip.

    As far as I know, avatar uploads have always been disabled or not functioning because we don’t use a traditional blogs.dir directory.

    This plugin is going through a pretty big overhaul to use WP3.0 post types. Should be ready by end of the week.

    I can’t duplicate this issue on my installs or testbp.org. Kunal’s fix looks like a good idea either way, but it will need more than me to test it.

    @rossagrant What versions of WP and BP are you using?

    @johnjamesjacoby

    Keymaster

    1. False. We get it everyday in our bug tracker.
    2. BuddyPress.org and testbp.org see substantial traffic, and our showcase includes other high traffic BuddyPress powered sites.
    3. BuddyPress.org is powered by the trunk version of BuddyPress, and could easily be powered by any 1.2+ version with only modifications to allow it to run on the shared .org space.
    4. BuddyPress is operated in a similar fashion as WordPress, and has the complete support of the core contributing team of WordPress. That’s actually a good thing.
    5. BuddyPress uses the same license as WordPress does. That’s another good thing.

    Posts like this, aren’t healthy or helpful to anyone, as they’re not really founded on any past or current actions or activity.

    But thanks for the feedback regardless. Feel free to contact me directly if you have questions about why this topic was locked or any of our responses.
