In reply to: Problems after update to 1.6
Hi geekandcook, what settings page are you trying to access but unable to? Is this the administration one under your WordPress dashboard?
In reply to: Stop comments on a pageYou can turn comments on and off under the page settings in WordPress. Go to screen options at the top right.
In reply to: Custom Theme PossibilityI’d suggest you give BuddyPress 1.6 a whirl – it’s kind of similar to that mockup for the bar
http://testbp.org/In reply to: Help with custom theme. If it’s already a WordPress theme then you’re starting point probably would be the https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/. If you follow a guide like this https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-ten-bp-1-5/ – that’s for Twenty Ten but can adapt.
No problem, not a waste at all. Glad hopefully we’ve got you in the right direction as to getting a resolution.
Just throwing this in here but is S2 member (or those others) updated for BuddyPress 1.6? http://www.s2member.com/forums/topic/buddypress-1-6/ seems to indicate to me no.
Hi Manswab, Would it be possible to see a link to your site? It could without seeing be one of two things:
– a too wide elements/wrong clearing
– a missing div/too many div closuresHowever, it would help to have a link to your site to confirm if that is possible?
In reply to: Several issues after upgrading to 1.6Hi Kris3d, first up you’ve probably seen it but can you confirm you’ve followed the steps in this thread? https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/transitioning-from-1-5-x-to-1-6/ Just want to know what stage you are at in diagnosing. Can you also confirm you’ve checked and are using BuddyPress 1.6 versions of any theme or plugins you are using?
That all being said have you tried resaving your settings under settings > BuddyPress and resaving your permlinks under settings > permlinks? Are you using any caching plugins? If so have you tried clearing them? I know some hosting has cache enabled that may be causing issues for you here, it may of course not be the issue though.
Assuming all that is there anything in your error logs on your server that may shed some light? Rather than pasting the entire thing you can use something like https://gist.github.com/ and link in that way please?
Just as as sanity check have you both looked at this thread: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/transitioning-from-1-5-x-to-1-6/. I know it may not be relevant but trying to throw something into the mix that may help.
Assuming you’ve upgraded all themes / plugins to 1.6 versions also then I think what is needed here would be information on your setup.
For instance: what did you upgrade from? What theme / plugins are you using? Anything else in your error logs? You can use something like https://gist.github.com/ to paste then link to your error logs.
Hi lifemore, can you confirm you followed the steps in this thread: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/transitioning-from-1-5-x-to-1-6/. Also what version of WordPress / BuddyPress did you upgrade from? I assume you’ve checked that both your theme and / or plugins using with BuddyPress are also upgraded to versions for BuddyPress 1.6?
Have you tried re-saving your settings for BuddyPress and permlinks under Settings >BuddyPress and Settings > Permlinks?
If all that is correct, could you please if possible provide a link or find out what path is being called for the images. Be helpful to see what the image is being listed as even if it’s a wrong file.
To check, have you followed through this helpful thread?
You may also have the bug that @r-a-y reports in this thread: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/404-pages-on-child-pages-in-1-6/
In reply to: Back end Admin Error after 1.6 upgradeJust to check have you updated to the latest version if one is out for 1.6 compatibility? Are you able to switch to the default theme for BuddyPress to test if you still get the error – that way we can determine if your theme or not? I understand though on live site you may not be able to do this.
If it does turn out to be the theme there is this forum https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/ for that theme on this site. It would hopefully mean the authors can see any issues you are having and respond.
In reply to: [Resolved] Cannot add a new forum topic in groupsHi queenieb, would you happen to have a link to see your site in action? Also do you have any other plugins active on your site? If you do, if they are removed does the issue still happen? I’m trying to see in saying that whether you have a scripting issue from a plugin or not.
In reply to: Register-page broken in 1.6?I’m not sure if the Invite anyone plugin (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/invite-anyone/) has been updated yet to work with BuddyPress 1.6. If it’s not then until it has it wouldn’t be recommended to use with 1.6.
In reply to: 1.6 admin bar with 1.5.7Ooo there you go – thank you that’s one I’ll be adding to my snippet pile myself

I understand it may be an issue but lets try and get to the root of what is the issue if possible. I know it can be frustrating and stressful though.
@buddygalaxy: If possible do you see anything in your error logs on your server? If you want to link to them you could use something like https://gist.github.com/ and provide the link here.
In reply to: 1.6 admin bar with 1.5.7Not that I am aware no, it’s part of the new merging with the WordPress admin bar.
No problem, there are a number of great getting started guides https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/ – also a great day to get BuddyPress as it’s just had a new version released today

Hi David, just to check can you provide a bit more information about your site? For instance what theme are you using and / or plugins? Have you checked they are all updated for BuddyPress 1.6? Or are you using a custom theme and have you updated that (if that is the case) for 1.6?
In reply to: Server Error wp-admin after upgrading to 1.6Hi Shemada, just as a check have you updated the Mingle theme to it’s 1.6 version? I see that they have released a version for BuddyPress 1.6 so wanted to check you are using it?
If you are – can you also confirm you have updated any plugins you are using along with BuddyPress?
In reply to: Customize the Buddypress “My Account” MenuIf you want to change text you can fairly easily using this method outlined in the codex: https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/
@sobuddy, have you updated your themes and plugin / plugins you are using to make sure they are compatible with BuddyPress 1.6?
The only cases where themes for BuddyPress wouldn’t need to have BuddyPress would be if they have a check in them and say they work without BuddyPress. If you want the ‘BuddyPress functionality’ then yes you have to install BuddyPress. It sounds like you do if you say forums/members/groups.
In reply to: 404 pages on child pages in 1.6Just as a ‘sanity check’ have you resaved your pages / relinked them up under settings > BuddyPress?
I’d also suggest you check that you’ve updated your plugins and themes to versions for BuddyPress 1.6 – or if a custom theme checked you’ve got all the correct changes in it.
It’s hard to say what has gone on exactly but lets take a look at some common things that can go wrong in upgrades.
When you say ‘not showing’ do you mean you see a white screen?
The first would be have you updated your theme and plugins (if using any)? You should always make sure both your theme and the plugins you use are updated to the version of BuddyPress – many will be issuing updated versions.
Assuming that is not your issue then do you have access to your server error logs? Can you see anything in those which may shed some light? If you do link them here please use gist (https://gist.github.com/) or something don’t add them all to this thread.
