@pjnu No, do not disable Secure Invites yet. The last time I tested Secure Invites a year or so ago, my test users had to reset to a new password when I disabled Secure Invites plugin, it was a hassle so I haven’t used the plugin since then. I don’t know if that’s one of the consequences if you disable it now.
Let me double-check on the users base in some installs, then I’ll get back to you.
In reply to: [Resolved] Missing Members Directory! The logical question would be, “what theme are you using?”
In reply to: Plugin manager for WordPress MU@uglyrobot many thanks for the updated plugin
In reply to: Members page not showing up== could it be that the root of my bp install is in a subdomain called ‘members’? ==
Your BP/WP is not in a subdomain but rather in either a physical subdirectory or a virtual subdirectory named members. So no, not likely a problem caused by the structure.1. Just to clarify,
a) you installed WP http://chcalgary.ca/ and then created a network with virtual sub-directory structure. One of sub-directories is http://chcalgary.ca/members , which is where you pointed BuddyPress?
or
b) you installed WP in http://chcalgary.ca/ and then created a physical sub-directory named members and installed another WP there with BP plugin activated?2. Looks like mod_rewrite is enabled because this URL shows up correctly http://chcalgary.ca/members/category/uncategorized/ so that means you have pretty permalinks. No problem here.
3. Check that your .htaccess file is correct for either WP in physical subdirectory if structure is 1.b. above or in WP in domain root if structure is 1.a. above
4. Check your apache config if directory configured to enable “Options FollowSymLinks” & “AllowOverride All”
In reply to: headers already sent error in ajax.phpWhat is the complete error warning? You might be looking at ajax.php when the problem is the phrase before that and the victim is ajax.php. See https://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_do_I_solve_the_Headers_already_sent_warning_problem.3F
You’re welcome
In reply to: Add Friend Issue on Buddypress– Deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and check registration.
Edit- see also different solutions in this thread https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/registration-link-redirects-to-home-page/
Use the conditional function `is_admin()` to detect whether the user is in the WordPress admin area
https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/is_adminIn reply to: Disable Custom Header@larrysmith1000 If you’re created a child theme of bp-default theme, did you surround the code in functions.php file with opening “ at bottom?
In reply to: Not able to create a groupDeactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and change to bp-default theme, clear cache and see if you can now create a group. I assume you did not disable Groups in BuddyPress > Components. https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/configure-buddypress-components/
Btw, what do you mean by “There is no such thing like “Create a group” in the backend.”? You create a group in front end of site.
In reply to: [SOLVED] Hide ”Groups” tab in BP theme? If I recall, fishbook theme is a child theme of bp-default theme. So if there’s no header.php there, download a copy here https://trac.buddypress.org/browser/tags/1.2.8/bp-themes/bp-default/header.php – download link at the bottom of the page. Delete lines 61-64, then upload to server wp-content/themes/fishbook folder
In reply to: Multi city WPMU w BP set-upWhile BuddyPress can be activated network-wide in a multisite installation to aggregate data from subsites, there can only be one instance of BuddyPress in either the main site or a secondary blog out of the box at this time.
Bearing that in mind, again out of the box, you could rename “Groups” as “Cities” and move forward with that. https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/ – esp. test drive BuddyPress at http:/testbp.org

In reply to: Cannot install BP on a network site== Not quite, I removed the code from the config.php and the above from .htaccess ==
@harounkola so you changed it back to single WP install with BuddyPress. I still see the BP components – groups, members, etc.
Deactivate all plugins including BuddyPress and change to default twentyten theme before creating a network. There are also other reasons why your pages go blank and/or you can’t access wp-admin. One of them is that you need to increase memory limit in your server. Example of where to change it in your php.ini file e.g. to 32MB first, and if that doesn’t work, increase to 64MBis here.
Check this out as well: https://codex.buddypress.org/troubleshooting/blank-pages/
In reply to: buddypress not working with permalink– mod_rewrite must be enabled https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/#system-server
– Before installing BuddyPress, you need to have your permalinks issue resolved first. https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting log in with same username and password used here.
== As you can see it looks like bleeds over the content border ==
Looks fine to me in latest FF, Chrome, Safari and even in IE6. You’ve probably fixed it already.
In reply to: Looking for help from a buddypress guru== I think that mercime was just asking for a user and login plain text will do and a basic account not admin. ==
hnla is correct. You mentioned “I can allow any person assisting me have free access.” I assume you have a testuser or demouser account/s to view your site as a non-admin user. Or create one so we don’t have to go through the process of registering to help you out. After the issue is resolved, you can always delete that testuser account.
In addition, open up your theme’s page.php file, copy all content and paste it at http://pastebin.com/ and click on Submit button. The post the URL generated from that submission here.
In reply to: Cannot install BP on a network siteEDIT – Looks like you resolved this on your own. I see all BP components, no blank pages.
In reply to: Looking for help from a buddypress guru@Twistedangels what hnla said.
Create an ordinary demo member account – post username and password hereYes it could be confusing and personally, I want replies posted in original blog and forum posts.
Network Admin dashboard – BuddyPress > General Settings:
choose option “Disable activity stream commenting on blog and forum posts?”In reply to: Adding multiple profiles per member== One profile each, together on my member user account. ==
Nope, haven’t seen it. You could code it, though it could be an involved process. In reply to: [Resolved] Missing Members Directory! It says in instruction:
… open index.php in the buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/members folder, locate this line (line 14) …If you’re currently using bp-default theme, then you need to
– create a child theme of bp-default theme https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
– copy the index.php at buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/members/index.php
– paste that index.php into yourchildthemefolder/members/ folder
– open up the index.php in members folder and follow installation instructions https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-profile-search/
– upload child theme folder to server and activateIt would be worthwhile to check registration as that behavior is not the norm. Which kind of registration below are you currently using?
– Open registration
– Registration coming from Invite Anyone // I see users added in BP and see them in backend of WP blog where BP is installed
– Registration coming from using Secure invites
– Registration comng from Facebook connect plugins – which one?
– Registration via LDAP or other form of connection bridgeEdit – dashboard Users > Add New adds users to the specific blog where user was added.
