In reply to: How to allow members to create their own blogs?
=== gonna take a semi-genius and the patience of a saint to get rolling. holy cow.===
You don’t need to be a semi-genius, but patience of saint would be applicable
In reply to: Question for profile/membership siteSure. There’s one featured WordPress.tv presentation from WordCamp Yokohama. It’s a Japanese site (with English translation), http://loftwork.com, which only used BuddyPress components like Blog Tracking, Activity Streams, Private Messaging and Extended Profiles. Didn’t use Friends, Groups and Forums.
–In reply to: Problem Installing buddypress…Rename the buddypress folder in wp-plugins via FTP or cPanel to deactivate BuddyPress.
The correct translation in WP lingo is “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.” And while this was triggered by activating BuddyPress, it starts with your WordPress installation.
There are plenty of threads in WP.org forums and Google search with different solutions to get back your Admin/Super Admin privilege in the installation. Good luck.
In reply to: BP chat….please help!!!@gunju2221 3 stars for the BP Ajax-Chat Plugin which is different from the BP Chat plugin. It can get confusing with the similar names
In reply to: my new user dont see template and dont use wp-adminYeah, I saw that WP.org thread and Andrea_r gave answer there and Ipstenu as well
@wp_y2m5tr take time to read the link given you in that threadIn reply to: BP chat….please help!!!Try out the free BP Chat plugin from @sbrajesh http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-chat/
You might want to try out (ala Facebook chat) BP-Chat on beta by @sbrajesh http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-chat/
In reply to: Automatically joining to a groupSaw your post in WP.org forums https://wordpress.org/support/topic/creating-rows-in-mysql-tables?replies=4
In reply to: Buddypress / Multisite issueThe best solution is to re-do the whole installation manually, as Andrea_r mentioned. If you’re getting into BuddyPress where you would have to add some configurations manually in htaccess/wp-config.php etc., then manual WP install and making it multisite would be good knowledge to have and good practice to boot.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_NetworkIn reply to: Max image size?If you created a parent theme and your subsites have child themes based on parent theme, add this to parent theme’s functions.php file
`<?php
/* force max-width for images and embeds */
$GLOBALS = $content_width = 600;
?>`
change 600 to whatever image size you want. This will override whatever number you set in individual sites’ Media settings for “Large”As for implementation for all different themes within your installation, you could create a new file `my-maxwidth.php`, paste the code given above there and upload to mu-plugins folder. Make sure that the width you add there is good for all the themes you have allowed for use of members in Super Admin > Themes.
In reply to: BP chat….please help!!!@Tekuan What techguy said.
Which BP Chat plugin caused that problem?In reply to: Buddypress / Multisite issue@bcade someone posted the same thing about “Enable Multisite Plugin” in WordPress.org forums, see if solution provided there will work for you.

Set which blog ID BuddyPress will run on – in your wp-config.php file add this`define ( ‘BP_ROOT_BLOG’, $blog_id );`
where $blog_id is replaced with Site Admin’s blog ID #
In reply to: bbpress plugins – is it possible ?@aphrodite @DJPaul theasybutton.com had a great tutorial (July 2009 – 42 steps in my notes) integrating bbPress 1.0.2, WPMU 2.8.4a, BuddyPress 1.0.3 which worked perfectly in old testbed but the link goes to 404 page now. I wouldn’t know if the integration would have held up with the code changes in current BP and WP versions.
There’s an older tutorial http://umwblogs.org/wiki/index.php/Integrating_WPMu,_BuddyPress,_and_bbPress which I never tried before but might help you.
As it is, you might want to wait till bbPress-the-plugin version rolls out after bbPress 1.0.3 is released – https://trac.bbpress.org/roadmap.
There’s a premium BuddyPress Global Forums plugin which I am using right now. You have a sitewide forum which integrates with BP’s group forum component or not depending on preference.
Good luck.

In reply to: Tiny chat plugin?1. Go to Google.com
2. Search for “tinychat wordpress”
3. Click on link “WordPress > Tinychat < WordPress plugins"In reply to: Background/Header Help?I forgot to add — add this to your child theme’s functions.php (if you don’t have one, create one)
`<?php
define( ‘HEADER_IMAGE_HEIGHT’, 200 );
?>`
adjust to tasteIn reply to: Problem with the man buddypress bar at the top@jeffcgreiner I see your BP adminbar at the top of your pages – FF, Safari, Chrome. I see it styled but placed below your footer in IE6
I don’t believe Giving WordPress its own directory works with BuddyPress showing up in the root when your WP is actually in the directory. Much like WP Multisite won’t work when you give WP its own directory. Calling on devs @DJPaul @boonebgorges @johnjamesjacoby. Is this a warning we should also add in Codex?
In reply to: Background/Header Help?Create a child theme of bp-default theme.
Re: background color = You need to override default style by changing the background color and image from
`body {
background: #eaeaea url( ../images/background.gif ) top left repeat-x;
…
}`
to something like the following which you should add in child theme’s style.css
`body {
background: #fffff none;
}`
which you adjust to taste.Re: header size change height set in default theme by adding this to your child theme’s style.css
#header{
height: 200px;
}
adjust to taste.Blogs: You have to enable multisite in your WP install first before you can let journalists create their own blogs. Read how to https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
Template Pack: Here’s a BP Template Pack walkthrough which could shed some light on how to add styles – https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/
Basically, you copy some styling from bp-default theme and tweak it to taste.In reply to: How to upgrade my theme for buddypressWhat karmatosed said. For #1 with Template Pack, make sure you have “ before ending “ tag in `footer.php`
In reply to: BP Sections?@andrea_r I recall a thread about this some time ago and the **hint** guru **cough**

With the major changes between BP 1.2+ and BP 1.3 bleeding I see right now, could be some devs are waiting till after BP 1.3 stable to make “some time to work on it”
In reply to: Create a blog@karmatosed tested that plugin and it’s not up to date
@avahaf This is an alternative way of having a group blog without requiring a new physical blog
In reply to: missing stylesheet== hmmm I paid for this and get charged monthly somebody please give us the fix. ==
@dougison WP and BP are free downloads, perhaps you mean you’re paying for your hosting?In any case, did you use the auto-install of BP? Then try to upload BuddyPress plugin again via FTP or cPanel. After activating BuddyPress, you should see the bp-default theme when you go to dashboard > Appearance > Themes.
