    @pjnu – “to have the social network be secondary to their wordpress blog, what options are available”

    You would need to create a child theme for 1.2 bp default theme. Copy the header.php from 1.2 bp-default theme into your child theme. Tweak navigation accordingly or create primary and secondary navigation to taste.

    “I feel like this new version is somewhat limiting in terms of customization. “

    My opinion is that it can be challenging but the sky’s the limit ;-)

    @dcartwright – kudos. Successfully created a new wiki page as non-admin. And yeah, as long as group admin and site admin can delete the page, that’s cool.

    Cheers :-)

    @D Cartwright – Just retested, thank you. Since I’ll be actively developing the Wiki (as Site Admin creating the Pages) I didn’t want to see my avatar and wiki page saves taking over the activity streams in my Groups and the Home Page when I take my sweet time doing edits and saving the pages, I’m the shy type :-)

    As for known bugs per http://namoo.co.uk/groups/bpgw-guide/wiki/how-to-guide/

    #2. Currently the GroupWiki seems to be displaying in the My Blogs area for some users.

    – it didn’t for me. It was exactly where it was supposed to be :-)

    #3. The “also currently editing” warning isn’t amazingly clear and also leaves an annoying yellow highlight box near the top left. Something to fix.

    – per reply to your message at GroupWiki earlier, I didn’t notice/see the “also currently editing” warning at all. Most probably because of tunnel vision – I was playing like a kid with the styles of the table I just inserted in the page with a math test. I had right answer, just need to have superscript inserted there :-)

    Thanks again.

    Seconding 21cdb suggestions :-)

    @DCartwright – the alert re each “Save/Revision of that one Wiki page I was working on are included in the activity stream for the Group I created as well as in the Home page”

    – I was creating the one Wiki page in one sitting while watching the news :-) So when the prompt to save came up or I needed to create MSWord doc to test copy and paste formatting result on wiki page, etc. etc. etc., I saved the page.

    – Therefore, alert to self and users, create the Wiki page in another app and copy and paste from there so that “Revision” would only show completion of actual revision not page saves.

    re – BuddyPress Community theme – Did you even activate the theme or read instructions at premium.wpmudev.org/project/buddypress-community-theme/installation/ ? Also, the theme is a premium theme and you should have free theme support there.

    “BuddyPress Default 1.1.3 by BuddyPress.org which seems to have the Community theme embedded in it”

    – uh, no Community theme embedded at all – or do you mean you activated the theme?

    Re: your confusion re themes – only bp-default child theme and bp-sn-parent are packaged in BP 1.1.3 BP plugin

    Nice clean site, henrybaum, congratulations. Thanks for sharing info about wpaudio, didn’t notice that solution before, looks good. As for uploading mp3 or audio files for members, Brajesh at BuddyDev.com is developing a BuddyPress Gallery plugin for images, video and audio which is coming out sometime later this month – it’s a premium plugin though. Might I suggest you contact him there to see how it could help you with frontend uploading of audios by members.

    Hi DCartwright. Yup joined up to test the Wiki plugin.

    Initial feedback

    1. Nice – got a pop-up reminder after some minutes to save work.

    2. I can’t delete my revisions, at least those which I consider disposable – is the deletion of such revisions for Site Admin only or will you allow Group creator/admins to delete such later on?

    3. I’m signing on as volunteer to attempt to create directory page for the Wiki plugin – read “attempt” :-)

    Thanks.

    @Symm2112 – Cosmic Buddy was never meant to be a parent theme that you would base a child theme on. Brajesh will be updating the whole theme to BP 1.2 code per his post on his site.

    @Mike Pratt

    bp-default theme

    – from BP 1.1 up to BP 1.1.3 is the child theme of BP 1.1.3 bp-sn-parent

    – in BP 1.2 bp-default them is now a parent theme used in http://testbp.org that’s why it’s mentioned that you could create child themes from bp-default theme.

    The child theme of BP 1.2 bp-sn-parent is now called bp-classic.

    Reason why you should create a child theme instead of copying 1.2 default theme in trunk is because there’s so many changes going on in code and within themes, and therefor IMHO less stressful and more proactive.

    What Michael said. There is a thread in this forum regarding BP_Group_Extension not found … haven’t tried it “fixing” the plugins with that solution though

    BuddyPress 1.2 is still in development – you can download either by

    SVN – svn co https://svn.buddypress.org/trunk OR you might prefer

    Zip file near bottom of page – https://trac.buddypress.org/browser/trunk

    As for widgetizing sidebars, it is not BuddyPress-related but basic WordPress function. When your user creates a blog, he/she can choose whatever theme you’ve uploaded to your WPMU installation. Just make sure the sidebars of those themes are widgetized or are “dynamic sidebars” and your users can change widgets via their own dashboards at Appearance > Widgets.

    “limit blogs plugin is set to 1”

    That’s where it goes awry. Remember that your members already have 1 blog – even as a subscriber to the blog where your BuddyPress is installed, that is counted. So increase Limit Blogs to 2 so that in addition to main blog as subscriber or whatever role you made them to be, they can create one new blog for themselves.

    Congratulations, DCartwright. Looking good :-) Other than seeing by chance that there is Wiki page or new wiki entry in the sitewide activities, will you be adding a navigation tab along with Groups, Members, etc. Wiki so that members can see that there is a Wiki feature/directory page? Just like Forums link where forums are dependent on groups, so are Wiki’s. Or… we could just hardcode the link :-)

    This is basic WordPress, see https://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags and click on the link to the specific template tag you’ll need to add.

    e.g. if you want a list of categories on your sidebar, you click on wp_list_categories link and you get this basic template tag, <?php wp_list_categories( ); ?>, and you add arguments per page I linked to.

    Reiterating what Bowe posted – “a clear explanation to the users between their buddypress profile and blog dashboard would be nice” [very very very nice]

    Encapsulates what could be one to two Pages of explanation of text and graphics to users into one full-width page of your screencast with full credit and link to your site :-)

    Cheers.

    When you write “website information” do you mean the xprofile field where you can add your external site’s URL/basic info or something else?

    to include another php file into my child theme e.g. somefile.php which is also in your child theme folder, simply done as …

    <?pho include ('somefile.php'); ?>

    I found the posts where Boone Gorges has set up such admin bar in other installations – here and here – same post but check out the comments area for some hints which could make it work for you. He noted “theoretically this method could work for any kind of software out there.” Good luck.

    @mercime

    @surfartculture – you have many threads regarding this including https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/god-help-me wherein you’ll find a helpful code regarding this matter from Boone Gorges:

    global $bp;
    if ( $bp->loggedin_user->id == 1 ) {
    /* Display the stuff you want user 1 to see */
    } else if ( $bp->loggedin_user->id == 2 ) {
    /* Stuff you want user 2 to see */
    } /* etc */

    But you have to give more information about your installation so that forum volunteers can help you out specific on your install.

    1. What WPMU version?

    2. What BuddyPress version?

    3. What theme are you using?

    4. Site URL?

    “When I goto the “Forum” there is no place to add a “topic”. “

    – You need to create a Group first before you can post a topic to the forum (associated with that group)

    “Is a “Group Wire” essentially the same thing as a forum post? “

    No, it is not.

    In reply to: Widget logic 1.2

    @mercime

    One way is

    if (bp_is_profile_component()) {
    include ('profile.php');
    }

    where profile.php is widgetized and you can add the widget in your dashboard’s Appearance > Widget panel. Are you using 1.2 bp-default theme or bp-sn-parent theme?

    https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/conditional-template-tags/

    Btw, if you use conditional statements for bp themes, do not add a standalone is_page() – need to add page ID/slug/name within () – otherwise it will override conditional statement for bp_is_profile_component() and other conditional statements for other BP-generated pages.

    @mercime

    Participant

    Basically, you just delete or not add the function and the closing tag that makes the sidebar dynamic or widgetized.

    For example, open up WPMU’s default theme’s sidebar.php. You will see near the top of the file …

    <div id="sidebar" role="complementary">
    <ul>
    <?php /* Widgetized sidebar, if you have the plugin installed. */
    if ( !function_exists('dynamic_sidebar') || !dynamic_sidebar() ) : ?>
    <li>
    <?php get_search_form(); ?>
    </li>
    etc
    etc
    etc

    and the file ends ends with

    <?php endif; ?>
    </ul>
    </div>

    So you delete the

    <?php /* Widgetized sidebar, if you have the plugin installed. */
    if ( !function_exists('dynamic_sidebar') || !dynamic_sidebar() ) : ?>

    near the top of the sidebar.php file and delete

    <?php endif; ?> near the bottom of the sidebar.php file

    The codes before, in between and after these are hardcoded now. Your members cannot change anything in the sidebar.
