In reply to: Is anybody really using BuddyPress?
See lists of BP-enabled sites https://wordpress.org/showcase/flavor/buddypress/ and http://www.bpinspire.com/
In reply to: No Register PageI have a register page in my pages but it just redirects back to the homepage so really I dont have a register page?
@jchamp311 That happens by default when you’re logged in naturally. Log out first to check out register page 🙂
In reply to: SNEAKY ADVERTISMENT PLUGINS!!!@harvey1233 what site are you referring to as Surf Cannon? You posted http://justinharvey.com/ as site URI in your other post.
installed a few widgets and now the ads are stuck on my site
Again, BuddyPress does not add those pop-up ad widgets to anyone’s site nor is BuddyPress responsible for such.
The ads pop up from text within my web page.
URI to page with pop up?
You’re welcome. Marking this a resolved.
In reply to: [Resolved] Buddypress >> MAINPAGE FORUMAh that would work
Sure it would and you’re welcome. Marking this as resolved.
Not a BuddyPress-related question 🙂 But go search via Google and one of the results -> http://css-tricks.com/perfect-full-page-background-image/
In reply to: [Resolved] Buddypress >> MAINPAGE FORUMwhat worked for me was to copy the source code of my forum page and slap in into the home page
@harvey1233 If you want your forum index page as your home page:
1. Create a new empty Page named “Blog” or “News” or whatever you want to represent as the list of new Posts in your site.
2. Go to wp-admin – Settings > Reading – Front Page Displays > Choose Static Page.
3. For Front Page – select the name of your Forums page
4. For Posts Page – select the name you set in #1 above.
5. Click on “Save Changes” button on the same panel. In reply to: Cannot access empty property when I add friendWhat theme are you using? WP/BP versions?
In reply to: Buddypress background Transparent@panashe What theme are you usuing? Site uri?
In reply to: Change button colours@panashe add/remove styles in your theme’s style.css file. Depends on your theme.
In reply to: Help with creating Bp dashboard@panashe Something’s getting lost in translation or it might just be semantics, but what exactly do you mean by “dashboard”? Examples? Thanks.
In reply to: SNEAKY ADVERTISMENT PLUGINS!!!Please know that BuddyPress does not include any advertisements. It looks more like you’ve been hacked by the tone of your rant. Surf Cannon is the link to what? Do give a specific site uri.
In reply to: [Resolved] My Join Group button is acting funny@ubernaut the fix was in BP Default’s functions.php file. Did you check if it was corrected in BP Default theme? For that matter, did you try to apply the same fix in the functions.php file of Reviewit theme and see if issue is resolved with the fix?
In reply to: Database ErrorSite URI?
In reply to: [Resolved] Buddypress >> MAINPAGE FORUMand i only can access the main forum from the side bar
Actually, you have your sitewide forum index page at http://justinharvey.com/F/
Also i am trying to add CSS to My pages and cant figure it out. any tips?
One usually adds the styles to your theme’s style.css file. However, since you’re using the BP Default theme, any modifications made to the style.css file will be overwritten when you upgrade BuddyPress. It would be better if you created a child theme of the BP Default theme and add styles to that child theme’s style.css file. Or use a WordPress theme and install/activate the BP Template Pack plugin and go through Appearance > BP Compatibility process.
In reply to: Ever growing database tables – is this normal?@mrk-1 Current BuddyPress tables with xxx_bp_xxx can be seen at https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/#bbpress-forums-tables-in-database
(xxx_bb_xxx tables are not included, those are for bbPress Group Forums)In reply to: Database ErrorPlease change to BP Default theme and deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and check if issues are corrected.
In reply to: installation wizard failingHaven’t seen this before. Is this single or multisite WP? Where are you hosted? Have you tried re-uploading BuddyPress via FTP/FileManager/etc?
In reply to: BP_DISABLE_ADMIN_BAR not workingYou could do that for HTML and CSS but I would think you’d rather stage this in a separate development installation via XAMPP/MAMP/WAMP That way, you’d be able to test the theme first and also have a backup of your theme should anything go awry in your server online.
I think you mean Javascript instead of Java, a different animal altogether. Again, I suggest you create/update theme in local server first. WordPress Codex for creating themes – https://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Development
In reply to: [Resolved] Installation issue@chouf1 thanks for heads up on the admin login. I’ve removed the info above.
@bhupendra13 looks like the issue with permalinks/component pages have been fixed in your installation. You need to know that the BP Default child theme you’re using has not been updated for the last two years so there will be issues which would crop up later. I suggest updating the header.php file of the child theme.
I’ve just installed a buddypress theme … on my site and I’m totally lost as to how to add a login, members, groups, activity stream, forums etc.
You also need to install and activate BuddyPress and go through the Installation Wizard to assign the BP Pages. Did you already do all that? A BP-compatible theme still requires the BP plugin.
In reply to: Installing BuddyPress on the Sterling ThemeInitial scan shows that you only need to create two/three files for alignment and compatibility.
In reply to: [Resolved] Third Party Themes Installation error@dazunj Thanks for posting your solution. There are themes which do not require the BP template pack plugin at all 🙂
In reply to: Happy New YearHappy New Year! Here’s to another exciting year with BuddyPress.
