In reply to: Running Trunk – Wire Still Here
wow, Andy! The @-approach is really coooOOOoooool!!!
As far as I get that right, I still would be able to have a “wire” in a group with the notification of all members? Or do you plan anything different (better) there too (to notify all group-members)?
In reply to: Groups Create The Forum Categories? Weird.I believe with the new activity-stream coming up, there would be a very new and very interactive approach for posting into forum-topics… The question is, if it is possible (and if Andy wants to do this) that activity-comments are also forum comments/answers (or in other cases blog-article-comments etc). See this thread about activity-streams for more info:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/activity-commenting#post-29956
Ps: And leave your thoughts/feedback
In reply to: Activity Commenting4. Another thing: As the group-thing now I don’t have a possibility to write to a user on his wire (publicly) anymore and no message is sent to him/her… What about a twitter-like function that with a @username the person gets an email and my message occurs in his/her activity… Just dreaming, but woulöd be GREAT
In reply to: Activity CommentingNow that I tested it a little some thoughts (constructive I hope):
1. In the sitewide activity it doesn’t show a comment, when it’s belonging to an older entry… I think it would be cool, if it would show up on top, no matter how old the original entry was, because with the comment, it’s getting “New” again (hope you are getting what I mean with my english…)
2. In the test-group: http://testbp.org/groups/buddypress-testers-614548248 there are interesting discussions. One is about “feeding back” the comments to the original source (Blog-Post, etc) and one about the topic if the forums still make sense with that kind of activity-stream. Check it out and get involved in the discussion here – I think those are very important topics!
My answer is: As simple as possible for the end-user. Merge as much as you can!
An idea I posted in the group about the forum etc would be: Finding the topic and tagging would be the only benefit for forums. What if forums are topically organized with the overview and everything, but the answers would be the comments in the activity stream…?!
I guess technically (in the background) it would “measure” if it is a forum-post, blog-post or just a status-message your commenting to in the activity and handle all of it differently… (maybe that is very complicated, but would be great!)”
3. It really would be a loss, if there isn’t an option in the group anymore, to send a message to all members of the group… Right now I don’t see it anymore…
In reply to: Activity CommentingIt is absolutely great, amazing and what it should be! I am thrilled and it’s another HUGE step forward. By the way: I think it is also much, MUCH easier for the end-user – just ONE place. Genius! Thanks Andy!!!
(ps:really, go and test it on http://testbp.org/)
In reply to: resizing images in activity feedGood question!
I experienced the same. Pictures are great, but the size… Not only in the activity feed, but also in the recent blog posts widget…
I tried it with resizing the picture in my custom css file:
.widget img.alignleft, img.alignright, img.alignnone {
height:100px;
width:100px;
})But my problem is that I didn’t get a solution that workes in any browser that gives me the ability to keep the proportion. Any CSS Gurus know a solution?
In reply to: Forum – cannot post in old groupsAny news/ideas on this? I must say, I am kind of desperate…!
Exactly Brajesh!
You totally got it and I hope that somehow you will find some time (or somebody else
)
Do you get, what I mean – feel free (even if you think it’s a stupid idea *g*)
In reply to: What do your spam signups look like?Hmmm – I installed the Plugin from Dennis Morhard “Invitation Code Checker” (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/invitation-code-checker) and changed the text a bit, so that my users know, which the code is when they register. Since then (a couple days now) ZERO spam signups… I hope it stays like that and the plugin is not too upset, that I misuse it
In reply to: What do your spam signups look like?@chouf: hmmmmm, ok. By now it’s getting worse… not because of your htaccess-thing, but it doesn’t really seem to do anything. Did I get that right: I just take the code above as it is and that should do the trick?
In reply to: New BP Chat plugin for Buddypress@M: Good to hear from you! To me your chat plugin is still the most promising…! And I wait with others till you release it.
Ps: To me it seams already pretty mature (more than others who already released it. What about a test-version *smile*
?
In reply to: Forum – cannot post in old groupsThanks Jeff. Sadly I saw that before and looket at all of the rows… So it seems there really is NO other entry.
In reply to: Forum – cannot post in old groups@jeff: Thanks again for the hint. When it comes to DBs it kind of scares me, because I almost know nothing. But as far as I can tell there is only one “bb-config-location” in the wp_sitemeta table and this seems fine…
In reply to: What do your spam signups look like?Thanks Chouf
I just implemented the code above (just like it is, is that correct???) a couple minutes ago… Since then I already have to spam-registrations and blog-creations…
So, I will try the wp-ban also…
In reply to: What do your spam signups look like?I don’t have that sentence in my footer, but same problem. They come past the captcha. I deleted the wp-signup.php. Changes nothing. Htacces-Trick doesn’t help.
I would be also very interested in a solution!
In reply to: Forum – cannot post in old groups@jjj: Thanks for the hint – it seemed logical… BUT, it also seems, that the path for the bb-config-location is correct (htdocs/bb-config.php). So who gets the $5?
@jeff: I also searched the entire DB for the term “bb-config-location” but it was only found in the wp_sitemeta table

You guys are great! I got also $5 for the person who catches the “evil-doer”

If it helps I could grant you access to my installation and DB – for I am not a programmer or something, just a greenhorn who tries to find its way through the jungle of the virtual world…
In reply to: surprising avatar behaviorI think I saw a ticket referring to something similar: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/1179
In reply to: Forum – cannot post in old groupsThanks alot! I will try to be patient!
In reply to: Forum – cannot post in old groupsThanks Jeff for all your hard forum-sherlock-holmes-work.

Would be great if triple-j (as far as I remember he messed alot with the “Old-ways”
) could jump in or some other gurus…
In reply to: Forum – cannot post in old groupsYes: Deep integration, killed the old data and chose “new bbPress Installation” (if I would have known what you just mentioned with “using an existing install”, I guess I would have done this, because I understud that wrong).
Sadly I don’t have the old bb-config.php anymore (from deep integration), so I cannot do this. Besides the old config-file I tried that reinstall option a couple times (as far as I can see, this just creates a new bb-config.php in the root).
Some thoughts/questions:
1. Why does it after the upgrade not work at all. with BP 1.1.1. and WMPU 2.8.4 at least the newer groups which never had any forum-data from the depp-integration-time had in them worked…
2. When my Test-Install on the same server works it seems to me that there must be somewhere any leftover data from the deep-integration-times that confuses the new forum-setup. So wouldn’t it help to find out where (in files, db, etc) is ANY information regarding the forums stored (like my question above about the wp_bp_groups_groupmeta table). That way we could work our way through…
Ps: In the process I already deactivated ANY Plugins (not only BP-related) – but it did not change anything. So it seems it’s not a plugin conflict…
In reply to: surprising avatar behaviorhmmm . strange – i just found out, that I have the same problem. I cannot change my own avatar…
I there a ticket on track? I didn’t find it (it is kind of hard
)
In reply to: Forum – cannot post in old groupsOk.
I already did this. It was a fresh install where the old-bbpress-forums never had been installed. There it works without any troubles… Same server.
Could the table wp_bp_groups_groupmeta have something to do with it. There I find a couple entrances like with the meta-key “forum_id”…
In reply to: Forum – cannot post in old groupsI did step by step everything mentioned above (that was a WPMU & BP Upgrade for me too). The error is not only still there, now I cannot post any topic in any group. Always that red error. Very strange.
Any more ideas or experiences from anybody?
Or another question, because kaltura is the engine behind the plugin: Are there any other languages available (in my case german)? Didn’t find it on the kaltura-website…
