In reply to: BP Columns child
No. child themes do not work like that. BP columns is a bp-deafult child theme
In reply to: What is the directory for avatar uploads?Did you install WordPress with a one click installer from your host? If so the directory may not have permissions set to allow BuddyPress to create folders and add images to your server
In reply to: bp_ functions in wordpress strict pagebp_displayed_user_avatar only works on a members profile page use bp_core_fetch_avatar
not all functions work out of their components
In reply to: Does bp_member_latest_update() Take Arguments?ok, changed the template tag, there might be a better way though.
`
<?php
$latestupd = html_entity_decode(bp_get_member_latest_update());
$latestud = str_replace(‘”‘, ”, $latestupd);
echo $latestud;
?>
`In reply to: Does bp_member_latest_update() Take Arguments?Scratch that, my example changes the member header quote and now that I’m looking at it there is an inconsistency with the quotes.
Might need to do a str_replace on output.
In reply to: Does bp_member_latest_update() Take Arguments?The only arguement on that function is length.
To remove quotes on activity that has not been posted you edit line 103 in global.js in the bp-default/_inc folder. Though you should never edit this file directly. Create a child theme and include _inc and global js file in your child theme folder.
`u = ‘"’ + l + ‘" ‘;`
The qoutes are saved along with the text in the post form box as a string
In reply to: how to create a home page exactly like Facebookhey thats not a nice response.
I wont do it for you but the steps required are:
Learn how to create page templates in WordPress.
Create a custom page template that includes the BuddyPress login code. You can get this from sidebar.php.
Choose your page template as the front page in the WordPress admin.These all require knowledge of CSS and HTML at minimum. You basically remove the wordpress loop and sidebar code from the page template and then fill it in with the login form code. Style it with CSS to make it look how you want.
In reply to: cannot upload avatar from iphoneYou cannot upload from iPhone. Apple does not currently allow this. In iOS 6 coming this fall they have enabled media uploads. However, the BuddyPress software does not do avatars on touch screens. I’m not saying it won’t in the future. There just needs a bit of work done. I’m pushing to get this done before iOS 6 is released. It’s a major feature I think is needed. Mobile photo sharing is popular i.e face books acquisition of Instagram for example.
In reply to: n00b confused as $%#*on this site they have it set to block spam, change the name in the profile field to something different than login name
In reply to: Does anybody know how they made this?You can edit the HTML structure and CSS of the BuddyPress members directory page

In reply to: Different Profile for different user typeyou could create custom profile php. save the user type to user meta. then do an if statment to populate page.
Id have one page that switches through user type and then calls a seperate page with profile code
you might have trouble with different fields
In reply to: Users can’t upload their avatar when on MacI got an iOS app in the works to upload images to BuddyPress maybe ill put in an avatar option

This theme is not available. Did you try and search for a free or paid theme that accomplishes this?
In reply to: Adding new page to each user??You need to explain more on how the page will be used
In reply to: Custom Activity PostYou can edit the post form file or add activity meta. Here is an example of adding buttons but it can easily be changed to text fields

In reply to: Enable Copy & Paste For Buddypress MobileIn next version I do not use the core BP JavaScript so it won’t be a problem the current version is basically BP-default shoe horned into small screen
In reply to: Enable Copy & Paste For Buddypress MobileThe javascript used for the comment, delete and favorite buttons is hijacking the tap on touch screens there for it will be impossible to copy unless this javascript is re written to include touch.
In reply to: Enable Copy & Paste For Buddypress Mobileok, after a few hours fiddling I’ve tracked it down to something in global.js is blocking Safari copy on tap and hold. Let me find the culprit and submit it to trac to be fixed in core. You cant copy on bp-default theme either.
In reply to: Mobile for BP.and multisiteDo you need it to work with each MU site? Next version is in dev and will be a plugin you can activate on each sub site. You could use it for WordPress alone.
In reply to: BuddyPress Mobile Switcher Link BrokenWhat desktop browser are you using? I couldn’t replicate the switcher not working. I’m not sure about the “cookie package” that’s not a necessity. Glad you got it worked out. Another note, I only test on default BP theme so when you venture into custom themes all plugins could break.
In reply to: Enable Copy & Paste For Buddypress MobileOdd, you should be able to select. I’ll check it out. I might have it blocked.
In reply to: [Unresolved] Activity FilteringTrust me when is say that 90% of topics posted here have been posted before many times over. Try google searches instead of looking here.
If your topic is not on the first few pages when a core dev or volunteer support user is logged in then you can pretty much forget about getting your topic answered. People are just not going through the back log of support requests. Core devs have time filled with making the software work as advertised. Customization is on you.
This is just the nature of using free software.
When posting topics: post your request, search here to see if you can find an answer, google keywords pertaining to your request. If 24 hours has past with no response bump the topic. What another 24 hours. If you get no response seek out a developer for hire.
In reply to: BuddyPress Mobile Switcher Link BrokenI’ll check it out, are you using custom theme?
In reply to: Does Activity filtering take an Act Of Congress?Everyone on the BuddyPress project are volunteers, so I’d give it at least a day for a response. That method of filter will only allow one type to be filtered.
Check this example of writing a function to filter results: http://blog.etiviti.com/2010/02/buddypress-hack-remove-new-member-registration-from-activity-stream/
