In reply to: Email notification not working
Are you able to receive emails regularly in WordPress?
eg. when someone posts a comment on your blog or when a new user registers for your site?
In reply to: help with custom theme breakageForget the sidebar CSS I wrote above.
Try just adding {float: left; width: 57%;} to only the second #container and not both.
In reply to: help with custom theme breakageFor #sidebar, add {float:right}.
For the second #container, add {float: left; width: 57%;}
In reply to: New sherrif in town – Congrats r-a-y!I don’t have a speech prepared! It’s an honor just to be nominated!
I’ll try not to let my new-found power get to my hexagonal head!

In a Borat-like voice: “Hi-five”!
In reply to: Can’t find way for new users to registerMisread the post! Sorry about the WPMU instructions!
In reply to: Can’t find way for new users to registerEnable registration on your WPMU install.
Login to the WPMU dashboard, navigate to “Site Admin > Options” and under “Allow new registrations” select anything but “Disabled”.
Hey JJJ,
Tried this out on an install where BP is setup in a sub blog on WPMU 2.9.2.
Didn’t work on the root blog. The root blog had its own wp-signup.php page.
For now, I’m using a rewriterule in .htaccess and redirecting to the BP subblog’s register page.
In reply to: Make Main Blog Page Show ExcerptsChild theme.
It’s my favorite new two words.
Copy /bp-themes/bp-default/index.php over to your child theme.
Edit the_content() to the_excerpt().
Cool, much simpler than what I thought!
In reply to: Username or Email Login ?I use FileZilla; just use it to upload the .mo / .po files to the server.
Make sure you also add the lines in bp-custom.php as noted in the how-to guide.
In reply to: Need help locating the activity-header codeYeah, I’ve also had problems trying to get the child theme to override the default theme’s ajax.php.
In reply to: Highlight Author Comments -> For BP ModeratorsIt depends on how you’ve defined your moderators.
On one of the sites I’ve worked on, each moderator was a site admin, so I did a check to see if the user is a site admin and applied a badge on the avatar.
If you don’t want to give site admin access, you can probably change each user’s role to an editor in WP, then do a check to see if they’re an editor.
In reply to: Username or Email Login ?You have two options to edit the string:
1) Edit the language label (preferred)
The “username” can be modified with a custom language file.
Read the “Labels and Messages” section at the URL below to find out how:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/
I use the program, PoEdit, to make such changes.
2) Edit the template
The login form can be found in /bp-themes/bp-default/sidebar.php.
Copy it over to your child theme and edit accordingly.
In reply to: Activity Filter IssuesTry clearing your cookies.
In reply to: How to search other than members and groupsThere’s a plugin for group tags, but that categorizes the groups and not the activity content:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-tags/
Andy mentioned that the code for global activity search exists, it just needs a frontend.
In reply to: WP + BuddyPress Private Profile FieldsThat code snippet probably applied to an older version of BP.
In reply to: Multiple blogs on BuddypressInstead of creating another blog, you could just setup blog categories like “Books” on your BP blog and add a button the the navigation bar with a link to this blog category.
If you anticipate you’ll need an entire blog dedicated to “Books”, you can do that as well, it will just be a little bit harder to pull in the content on your BP blog.
It’s totally up to you.
Hi nickrita,
Got your PM.
Can you post an enhancement ticket on Trac – https://trac.buddypress.org/newticket (use the same login info you use here) – asking for an admin option to select the default filter?
Look into the Groups loop and adjust the parameters to output a list of group forums:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-groups-loop/
These are the parameters you should be looking at: “most-forum-topics” and “most-forum-posts”.
Copy /bp-themes/forums/index.php in a child theme and add a new groups loop.
This won’t make it look exactly like the forums here on bp.org, but will come close.
Cool! Glad it worked for you, Jfcarter.
Make sure to green light the thread!
In reply to: Forum problems (still)You should upgrade to BP 1.1.3, before upgrading to BP 1.2.1.
Read this:

In reply to: oEmbed for BuddyPress plugin – out now! It’s feasible, but I wouldn’t bundle it with this plugin.
I’ll probably create an “Embed” plugin pack to extend the list of website providers.
Don’t know if I’ll add uStream and TED support to this new plugin pack though.
In reply to: Seperate account creation and blog creationEdit the blog registration out of the theme.
Copy /bp-themes/registration/register.php to your child theme and edit accordingly.
If you don’t have a child theme, read up on it here:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
In reply to: oEmbed for BuddyPress plugin – out now!Try this plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/oembed-provider/
It seems to only work for images though. Contact the plugin author to ask for video support.
You’d also need to add your site to WP’s oEmbed whitelist, read this:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Embeds#How_Can_I_Add_Support_For_More_Websites.3F
In reply to: External and Group use of bbPressIt does not work to use a standalone forum because then you lose all the group making aspects of Buddypress.
You do not lose all group making aspects by using this approach.
You can use both BP group forums and your external version of bbPress at the same time.
There will be some duplication in your external version of bbPress. You’ll need to find a way to address this issue. One way is to hide the group forums in your external bbPress. I did a writeup on this a few weeks ago; I’ll provide the link to those who want to read it.
