BuddyPress is open source code – not a commercial product, not a hosting platform.
All work is done by volunteers.
I have not experienced the issues you mention.
It can be frustrating to debug.
You’ve described the issue, but not what you’ve tried to fix it.

Have you tried –
– deactivating mediaPress
– deactivating any other plugins
– switching to another WP theme
– switching template packs via …/wp-admin/admin.php?page=bp-settings
– using your browser debug tools to see what the css is for profile images
iow – basic debugging to try and narrow down the possible causes.
I’ve never used redis object cache.
But, object caching for WP can cause issues with BP because the object is not refreshed on a reload or ajax call.
Even if you set the cache to refresh every few seconds, there will still be issues like the one you found.
And page caching is much worse.
You can narrow things down by deactivating any plugins re buddypress.
Then test the issue.
If it does not persist, then reactivate those plugins One At A Time and test the issue again.
That should allow you to identify the specific plugin incompatibility.
AT that point, possible fixes can be discussed.
There are all sorts of custom ways to ‘hide’ members.
The easiest would be something like this, untested:

buddypress\bp-themes\ is deprecated any only included for legacy installs.
Your child theme structure seems okay.
But try using the register templates from here buddypress\bp-templates\bp-legacy\buddypress\members\ in your child theme.
You can filter members any way you want – but you’ve need to add any html UI elements that you need.
And then write some custom functions.
This should give you some clues, scroll down to ‘code examples’:
You should be able to use bp_send_email to adjust $email so that it fails validation on the next line.
And your function could send a custom email at the same time.
It will get messy – always easiest to use the provided functions.
afaik – the email classes are in bp-core > classes.
You’ll need to review them to get the info you want.

I am not familiar with that plugin. But plugins sometimes cause problems even after deactivating them.
You should contact the author of that plugin and explain your issue.
