In reply to: I gave buddypress a try
Hi socialpreneur, so you mean standard wordpress install, then install bbpress, then add buddypress!
That’s option 2. Try both, use the one you feel the most comfortable.
In reply to: bp_displayed_user_username or another?Solved this, answer is here for anyone with the same problem.

In reply to: I gave buddypress a tryIf you have searched the forum, developers (from the navigation on top), and google you have two options:
1. Install bbpress from the one click installer by BuddyPress
2. Install bbpress alone and connect to BuddyPress
You’ll have total freedom customizing the forum if you choose option 2, but thanks to the community, there’s a plugin for option 1 too.
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/forum-attachments-for-buddypress/
Get a testing environment, try the both and explorer the bp world!!
In reply to: Displaying usernames on Members Directory part 2I finally solved this according to:
https://svn.buddypress.org/trunk/bp-core/bp-core-templatetags.php
I’ve made a new custom function, bp_member_user_login as follows
function bp_member_user_login() {
echo bp_get_member_user_login();
}
function bp_get_member_user_login() {
global $members_template;
return apply_filters( 'bp_get_member_user_login', $members_template->member->user_login );
}In reply to: Displaying usernames on Members Directory part 2bp_member_name
bp_member_permalink
bp_member_avatar
Are there only 3 of functions? I can’t find information about bp_member functions on codex.
In reply to: web.config TROUBLEThis is due to the bbpress database installed as latin1_general_ci
There’s a trac entry, but not sure when it’s going to be fixed properly.
In reply to: web.config TROUBLEBuddyPress nor WordPress doesn’t have such files called web.config
Every file should be named as something.php. In WordPress, for example, wp-config.php
I think it’s the smtp plugin you installed, which is causing the problem. Make sure the plugin is compatible with current versions of WordPress and BuddyPress.
In reply to: bp_displayed_user_username or another?To my understanding and testing experience, the following doesn’t return list of usernames of members on members-loop.php
<?php echo bp_core_get_username( $user_id ); ?>In reply to: bp_displayed_user_username or another?Does anyone know how I can modify this code into a new function, rather than overwriting bp_member_name? I’ve tried add_function instead, but didn’t work. Preferably I’d like to create a new function called bp_member_username.
function my_member_username() {
global $members_template;
return $members_template->member->user_login;
}
add_filter('bp_member_name','my_member_username');
In reply to: bp_displayed_user_username or another?I think this “bp_core_get_username” is used only for one member. This doesn’t work on members-loop.php where it should list member names and avatars on the Members Directory.
The function should be something equivalent to
<?php bp_member_name() ?>But instead of member nickname it should return login ids of members.
I just found the following custom function, but I wonder why this function is not built in by default.

In reply to: bp_displayed_user_username or another?Thanks for the suggestion, however “bp_core_get_username” doesn’t yet return (display) anything. I wonder if there’s anything changed from version 1.2
In reply to: BuddyPress i18n TopicsStill bbpress is installed as “latin1_swedish_ci” by the buddypress one click installation, although others are mostly installed as “utf8_general_ci” Not sure if this should go to buddypress trac or bbpress trac.
In reply to: Very Slow Server Response With BuddyPressIf running on VPS, you should at least need 512mb of RAM in order to run wordpress/buddypress smoothly. But that’s just from my experince running wpmu/buddypress on a VPS.
In reply to: Recommended hosting service?If you are running buddypress with wordpress single version (not wpmu), then dreamhost, hostgator, and others should be fine.
But if you intend to host blogs or use buddypress with wpmu, then those shared servers won’t be capable of your applications. I currently use wpmu/buddypress on Media Temple grid server.
In reply to: oEmbed for BuddyPress plugin – out now!r-a-y, does this plugin enable embed features on extended profiles, so users can paste, for example youtube videos?
In reply to: Tweetstream (twitter plugin) Beta testers needed!Version 1.1.8 has a bug with WordPress 2.9.2 with BuddyPress 1.2.1
Enabling this plugin disables buddypress profiles, which returns 404 on every member profile page.
I’m using custom member slug for my BP install, so please check if there’s conflict on your code with users with custom BP slugs. This is the only BP plugin I’m running aside from BP.
In reply to: Plugin: supporterCheck out wpmu supporter plguin, wpmudev premium. This is the only plugin I’ve seen so far.
In reply to: Creating a Blog Causes ErrorsThis is not a problem of BuddyPress, please use WPMU support forum for general questions. Please only post questions regarding functions provided by BuddyPress plugin to this forum. In fact, you get faster response if you post this to WPMU support forum.
In reply to: Front End Blog PostingLooking for something like P2 theme?
There’s already a plugin for this purpose.
Deactivated and activated again solved the problem.
In reply to: 1.1.3 to 1.2 RC3 avatars missing, any fixEDIT: making a new topic on uploading avatar issue.
In reply to: 1.1.3 to 1.2 RC3 avatars missing, any fixI’ve updated to 1.2, but I still had the same problem. So I deleted all the files under avatars, and now I can’t upload avatars for some reason (which I need to look into the topic above).
In reply to: facebook connect doesnt insert user informationI’ve been using RPX plugin, but I still haven’t figured out to sync user avatars.
There’s a hack with using user local avatars plugin for wordpress, but it doesn’t seem to work well with 1.2 RC3.
In reply to: Widgets unmovableAre you sure you are using wpmu/wp 2.9.1 or higher?
Remember we can only change orders of widgets from wp-admin.
