In reply to: My site
@antonrsa, simple but effective solution. I tried to disable java to see if I could get around it but a user without java gets redirected to a “javascript disabled” page. Nice.
In reply to: My siteHey Anton, nice site. Going to join shortly. How did you manage to put a 200 character limit on the status updates?
In reply to: BuddyPress SpamOkay! This is pathetic. Spam is a real problem for literally all community websites on the internet. Ever since I’ve updated to WP 3.0, spam has become a pain in the anus! So this is my solution, I’m building a spam prevention plugin that is built in flash. Its all using AS 3.0. I’m having issues with Internet Explorer 6. If you use IE 6 or you don’t have a flash plugin or something for your browser then I don’t care. SPAM IS A PLOBLEM. 90% of the people using my site have flash and don’t use IE6. The 10% have to just deal with it.
UPDATE COMING SOON! IF YOU USE IE6 THEN GO LIVE IN A CAVE LIKE THE HOBBITS DO.
In reply to: Marketing/PublicityHeya, I think this little article could point you in the right direction… http://www.prelovac.com/vladimir/how-to-effectively-use-social-media-sites
I’ll be doing a blog article on my blog soon, so I’ll be sure to send you a link.
In reply to: How do I enable “followers” instead of “friends”?@erich73 As far as I know its basically identical to testbp.org
In reply to: users complainingWell, if you want to use BP to power your site then get your hands dirty and make your site not so “confusing” by hacking away at your BP theme. BP out of the box isn’t the prettiest and most straight forward plugin. If you want your BP powered site to have easy navigation then then dig in to the templates and sort it out or pay someone to sort it out.
@rossagrant, have you edited the profile template page by any chance? When I created a theme for my site I placed the wrong template tag in the profile template page file and it resulted in what is happening to you.
In reply to: BP Followers 1.0 – Can’t see “following”@0815t My Bad! Its working fine. For some reason one of the users couldn’t view his/her followers. Its fine now.
In reply to: BP Followers 1.0 – Can’t see “following”Yup. I even tried deactivating, deleting and then reactivating. No luck.
In reply to: Help Needed Buddypress Installation@fortrock6 Unfortunately there’s no straight forward and easy way to “fully customise” your site to look like a social networking site. If you don’t know CSS, you’re going to have to get your hands dirty and dive into CSS and learning how the wordpress and buddypress theme system works. Here are some links to point you in the right direction:

Hi @jillsays
If you’re creating a child theme: The template file you’re looking for is wp-content/themes/yourtheme/registration/activate.php
If you can’t find it in your theme folder then you need to copy it from wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/registration/activate.php and copy it into your theme folder. Remember to paste it into wp-content/themes/yourtheme/registration/activate.php
NB! Where ever I’ve written “yourtheme” replace it with the name of your theme’s folder.
@peterverkooijen, @eborg9, if you guys are having issues then hire a developer to make a plugin. You could simply edit the template files (I think)
Create a First Name and Last name profile field. In the template files wherever http://pastebin.com/57Sm4VNu appears replace it with http://pastebin.com/hESCVX9D
Something along those lines.
In reply to: How do I enable “followers” instead of “friends”?Thanks guys! Much appreciated!
Are you using WordPress 3-beta. Because only wordpress 3 allows custom post_types. But anyway, this helped me, hope it helps you…
In reply to: Buddypress 1.2.3 to 1.2.4 ugrade FAIL!@jeffsayre
Just in case someone skips the codex. Thanks. In reply to: Here come the spammers!!!This is why we need to intercept spammers. This is a the first thing I saw when I logged in!
@r-a-y Yeah, I’ve tried all 3 solutions and no luck. My whole purpose was to restrict users from accessing the admin backend. So here’s a simple solution, this function must be added to the functions.php in your theme folder. Only admins can access the /wp-admin with this function.
Yeah, would be a brilliant idea!
@Nit3watch Haha! Yeah, its about time the SAfricans take over the planet!
Glad you got it sorted out bro!Hey you can use http://www.poedit.net/ to generate an MO file.
@gian-ava, if you’re on a cheap shared-host then there’s a possibility that could slow your website down, a lot. With a sudden rise in users and activity on a shared-host your site is bound to take a lot of strain, because of the limited resources that is dedicated to your site from your hosting company.
There is always a possibility of your site being hacked. I’m not too sure how likely this is otherwise it would be a widespread issue across buddypress.org.
For the unusual characters, I would set the encoding of your WordPress to Unicode(UTF8),
1. Make sure you are logged in as admin
2. In the admin dashboard, go to Settings > Reading
3. In the text box next to “Encoding for pages and feeds” insert “UTF-8” without the exclamation marks. In reply to: realtime activities updateVery cool indeed! Is there a release date announce for that version?
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and Discussion@jordashtalon I agree with you on the categories for uploaded images. That would be a fantastic idea. Especially if a user is searching through images, instead of browsing through hordes of images they’d simply browse through different categories of images.
