@mercime @dimensionmedia thanks for sharing!
definitely questionable if you have an alternate forum up already but the main thing you would be getting would be a tighter integration and less trouble you might want to look into it a bit and see if theres an easy way to convert your existing data to bbpress format.
In reply to: How to make a child theme?you may need to rename the file to style.txt for wordpad to recognize it.
the theme developer would probably be your best shot
Got it thanks “privacy at large” definitely a popular feature set!
@mercime what exactly is “EnGrande Privacy & Moderation Component” just curious, thanks!
In reply to: How to make a child theme?i don’t think using the wordpress css editor would be the way to create that file normally you would use some other text editor i typically use dreamweaver.
In reply to: Individual blogs for each memberyeah well I’m not sure if you can regress a multisite back to single site (maybe you don’t actually have to) but if you don’t want that functionality and you are still in development it might be good to start over yes. it sounds like what you actually want is simply a single wp install with new users default roles set to author or contributor (depending on wether you want the people to post unapproved).
In reply to: Looking for a Rank Systemwondering how involved that whole process was i’d be interested in such a thing as well.
In reply to: Automated Spamthere is no perfect solution for this problem and these “bots” are actually humans a good deal of the time i have had good experience with WangGuard though.
In reply to: Looking for a Rank Systemyeah i’d say cubepoints is probably the closest thing to what you are seeking but as you mentioned in the other thread there are integration issues, also i’ve seen that cubepoints isn’t very network friendly.
Maybe this one is too small or already covered by #1 but stealth for Super Admins.
Maybe this one is too big, spam user registration countermeasures.
In reply to: 1.6.5yeah correct me if i’m wrong but the bp-default theme files (assuming we aren’t actually talking about a child) would count as core files would they not? Anyway anytime you upgrade a theme (again assuming you haven’t made child that contains your changes) you would need to re-apply your modifications or displeasure will probably find you. i make notes on such changes so it’s easy to upgrade painlessly.
In reply to: Spam User RegistrationThere is no perfect solution other then to disable registration entirely but i have had a good experience with WangGuard. FYI a good chunk of these “bots” are actually humans (at least at some point) believe it or not.
Seems like there should be an official place for such things and if not the codex then where?
Definitely a useful tip @umagokhale an issue that comes up quite a bit. Seems a bit odd your links are redirecting to customwebdesignseo.com even though you have already rebranded to 83 Oranges on the site and you obviously own both domains, but it is a nice looking site.
In reply to: 1.6.5i think maybe we over thinking this a bit i don’t think @somdefabrica actually mentioned modifying any core files. Generally speaking there is no reason you should be afraid to update wordpress or plugins such as buddypress. It is always a good idea to make a backup (preferably in maintenance mode) prior to any upgrade or adding a new plugin or theme, just in case you have trouble or don’t care for the results.
Is there some reason you are afraid to upgrade specifically or are you just saying that upgrades are scary, generally speaking? If that’s the case i would suggest to you that not upgrading, especially with open source software carries it’s own set of risks. Generally speaking if you don’t want to upgrade something wordpress related you should have a very specific reason.
In reply to: BUG: Account deletion always worksplease report your bug on trac these support forums are not necessarily monitored actively by the folks that can actually do something about that.
In reply to: Registered users are not showing up on the sitei have the same problem started as soon as we switched from single to multi i was thinking it might have had something to do with WangGuard are you using that or no?
In reply to: how to hide admin activity on Buddypress activity?@mercime thanks!
In reply to: Individual blogs for each memberwell if you have already enabled multisite i don’t think that option will show up so you may need to backtrack a bit. i hope my misread of your desire hasn’t caused any inconvenience.
In reply to: Individual blogs for each memberyeah you can switch the new user role to author rather then subscriber in the general settings.
In reply to: Individual blogs for each memberyou need to enable your wordpress as a multisite network:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
and that’s it.
🙂
In reply to: new to buddy press need help with profileswell all i’m saying here is that you want a lot of stuff none of which is standard out of the box, so if you want to make it happen you will either need to find plugins which do the various components and then string them all together somehow into a cohesive UX or pay someone to help you build it.
In reply to: new to buddy press need help with profilessounds like you need to hire someone to help you all that is fairly high level custom stuff it think.
In reply to: My layout is different on every pageor just wait for 1.7 if you can since that would negate the need to customize your theme most likely.
