In reply to: HELP ON USING A BUDDY PRESS THEME!
Try copying the bp-default theme from the Buddypress plugin bp-themes folder to your wp-content/themes folder
In reply to: Notifications tab seems to break siteFollow up:
@Trashfunkel – This MAY (or may not) help
My difficulty was primarily self generated – (in case somebody else has done the same)
This is about bp default and child themes (i know it is being phased out but i presume many are still in use)
Even with trunk 7709 some of my local installs still had page disruption with notifications.
I eventually worked out that this was because the “child theme” i was using was actually a modified bp default theme and not a proper child theme at all and was based on an earlier bp default theme.
Once i based it on the CURRENT bp default theme everything behaved properly.
In reply to: Notifications tab seems to break siteall now appears good (in local installs – no repeats etc – notifications dont upset the page etc) with trunk 7709.
In reply to: Notifications tab seems to break siteCorrection
Editing ‘Base’ Profile Group is not repeated on an online install with same themes/plugin and wp 3.8 and bp 1.9
So my report is not really reliable.
The online experience with notifications is however as previously reported with respect to local installs.
In reply to: Notifications tab seems to break siteHi there,
following this thread and also installing trunk – current trunk 7705 on trial local installs
with bp default / or a child
in a Members Profile
Editing ‘Base’ Profile Group is repeated 14 times
just reporting – i think also a similar experience to @mdpane when i click notifications if at 0 (why click it when it is at 0 is another question altogether!)
Thanks for all your help over the years.
Cheers
In reply to: "Proudly deleted by…"You can hide your pride by amending the footer.php file
Though when you contribute something to open source that is used by over 20% of all websites imho it’s a reasonable presumption that many are indeed proud to use the software – hence the insert.
There are obviously some like your good self who would prefer to hide their pride.
Those who are using the software but are not proud to use it, well, they have a problem that will not be solved on this forum.

In reply to: [Poll] Which development tools do you useFor local development test sites and a complete local install solution
DesktpServer at http://serverpress.com/products/desktopserver/
DesktopServer (Free – Mac & Windows) – but not multisite
DesktopServer (Premium – Mac & Windows) multisite
( blurb – but true “unlimited virtual hosts, support for sub-domains, domain mapping setups, import and export, and advanced quick deployment features. Run multiple isolated servers for all your projects.”
To-date there has been excellent support
In reply to: BuddyPress Registration Page Not WorkingHad a similar problem on a site awhile back. One advice on this forum (i think) was to ensure that the buddypress folder name was buddypress and not Buddypress. Why/How i had named the folder with a capital B is beyond me but the result of the change back to lowercase b (i believe) was that users could register.
I have absolutely no idea why or even if there was in fact an exact cause/effect.
and
I very much doubt there would be many similar instances (of the capital B) but thought i’d mention it.
In reply to: BP Conditional Groups & UsersGreat!
Please do update. It will be of help to those interested in this feature.
or do please ask your developer friend if he might be able to recommended somebody else, if he, himself, does not have the time.
In reply to: BP Conditional Groups & UsersAs I have been told, a well oiled coder can make this in a week or less
That really is good news.
Could you please ask whoever told you this to recommend such a coder so that this feature can be implemented.
Please share, if not the resulting plugin, then the email of coder so that the rest of this community can also benefit in some way from your enterprise.
In reply to: BP Conditional Groups & Users& separate activity streams
In reply to: BP Conditional Groups & UsersAt present you actually can have entirely separate groups across a bp multi-network site with wp, bp, bp-multi-network, and a plugin like the premium Networks+ from ebooks (or similar free plugins in wp repository).
separate groups, forums, and blogs,
But the user base is not separate. The user base is shared across the networks.
In reply to: BP Conditional Groups & UsersJust commission your plugin and make it available and help all those other thousands of people coping with the same problem.
In reply to: BP Conditional Groups & Usersand if you really want to commission a plugin why not post the job on https://buddypress.org/support/forum/plugin-forums/bp-jobs-board/ or the many other freelance sites on the web ?
In reply to: BP Conditional Groups & UsersWhy abuse people ?
Are you really just justintyme ??
The software is open source and this forum is moderated by volunteers. Many thanks for your reply.
The theme is that at https://wordpress.org/themes/wordstrap
Have taken your advice and am almost there! (i think !)
I just have not altered the index.php file correctly – (your advice very welcome)
With an index.php file in directory —> themes/wordstrap/groups/index.php
(no change whatsoever if in themes/wordstrap/buddypress/groups/index.php)
see altered file at http://pastebin.com/VAfJAjbj
and a jpg of the result at https://i.imgur.com/7fRK8at.jpg (where within the content everything has floated left!).
Any advice most welcome
In reply to: Random Wish/Idea for BuddypressPrevious link in 2nd last post should have read:
I would add “Add Media” and Map/Location (my p2 example – at http://trulysuperb.com/ user: test password: test
In reply to: Stopping anonymous group creationAs far as i am aware (though am open to correction) the “Create a Group” button only appears if you are logged in – i.e. registered.
In reply to: Random Wish/Idea for BuddypressYes BP Activity Plus works well. Thanks. (sorted a recent hiccup – it was just a silly mistake by me!)
Possible other options include rtMedia https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-media/ and previously there was buddypics.
Communication, now, with photos/video etc is just exploding-its now just a huge part of online social interaction.
While i am truly appreciative of the countless developers and whole open-source eco-system that produces the plugins – sometimes developers, even commercial developers, move on to something else and the particular plugin does not get upgraded or does but months later.
Technically also as BP Activity Plus puts uploads into its own bpfb folder the links will not persist if the plugin is deactivated.
For niche functionality perhaps this is not so important but for a major functionality like say photo uploads my two cents is that it might be worthwhile for buddypress (as social interaction is its core) to have it built in. Its just to future proof it.
Am not talking about 1.82 but say aim for after 1.90
The p2 theme which i suspect the core devs might use quite a bit is a reasonable functioning template
(However, all this could be hugely difficult with Buddypress – I just haven’t a clue )
If it was in my hands (now i really am getting way above myself here) I would add “Add Media” and Map/Location (my p2 example – at http://trulysuperb.com/
Anyway I will put something up on the trac.
While i’m here – thank you @mercime for the huge lots of help in this forum and the wp forum over the years.
In reply to: BP 1.7+ and later – Theme Compatibility PlansThanks again.
Pretty good explanation at http://bpdevel.wordpress.com/2013/02/25/bp-theme-authors-make-sure-your-theme-registers-buddypress-support/
In reply to: BP 1.7+ and later – Theme Compatibility PlansMany Thanks, Hugo.
After rechecking I am now down to just no sidebar control over activity page and group forums page. (though will need a little css tinkering which is no big deal) .
My resource to date is just https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-compatibility/ and this forum.
You say
Theme compatibility already provides for a custom bp version of page.php ‘buddypress.php’ in that you can specify named sidebars.
bit lost with that i’m afraid. It would be great if you could elaborate on that.
In reply to: [Resolved] Where is activity stream privacy?+ 1
Ditto – same experience as bp-help
There is now a reasonable body of tools to allow truly excellent (possibly superior to any other networking platform) “privacy/moderation”
This plugin is one such tool
and then there is
http://www.philopress.com/products/buddyblock/ (premium – but great! -gives your members the power to decide who can see and interact with them)
and also possibly
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-moderation/ (though you do need to consult the WordPress Forum to add up-to-date tweaks to get it working properly!)
In reply to: walled garden and bbpressAn aside – it may or may not be relevant to tweaking your plugin
I had previously experimented with other plugins
pagerestrict at https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/pagerestrict/ is effective BUT has no effect on /forums/ !!!!!
while
path access at https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/path-access/ is effective but just goes to a page not found -it lacks the elegant redirect!!
