Nice little effect but you really should be using wp_enqueue_script. You wouldn’t need to worry bout any jQuery dependency then…
In reply to: Skysa Footer BarHmm, the only problem you have then is that you’re stuck with an ugly bar at the bottom of your site… Who’d want that?
In reply to: How do you access SVN?I use TortoiseSVN. Great way to work with SVN if you’re on a windos machine.
In reply to: Seo for Buddypress 1.0 betaI never said you shouldn’t optimize your site for SEO purposes. I just meant, that on most social sites it’s less important. Obviously there are exceptions. Now, when you add privacy control into the mix, basically making portions of your site private or semi-private, SEO will be even less important. That’s why I said you should mainly concentrate on the public pages (which will be the blog pages for most setups).
In reply to: Seo for Buddypress 1.0 betaSEO really is a fickle thing. To be honest, I wouldn’t bother too much with it with the social aspects of your site… Get the blog that goes with your sn up to scratch, interest other people to join your network and then your member numbers will speak for themselves…
In reply to: Buddypress and WordPress 3.0 BetaWorks fine for a single install for me…
Social networking really should be about the people, so all BuddyPress should do is deliver the basics that are needed to build a community. That would basically be all the various components that we already have. Because of legal restrictions in a lot of countries I’d only add a privacy component to the core. Any other feature would be better implemented as a plugin. We could even have canonical plugins, just like WP. Keep the core as lean and mean as possible…
In reply to: Paid membership and subscription pluginsThe dev of s2members is even thinking about adding subscriptions for groups, which would be just what I needed. Until then I’m gonna code myself a basic substitute…
Over on the IRC BP Developers Channel it has just been announced that development for BuddyPress has ceased and that Automattic has put the code up for sale to the lowest bidder. This is due to the recent dissillusionment of all core developers and bp plugin authors by pushy and obnoxious users. RIP BP!
In reply to: Group Avatars, how to change the defaultAdd this to your bp-custom.php file:
function tj_add_default_avatar( $url )
{
return get_stylesheet_directory_uri() .'/_inc/images/avatar.jpg';
}
add_filter( 'bp_core_mysteryman_src', 'tj_add_default_avatar' );You might have to adjust the path and/or change the image name.
EDIT: Oops, just realized you wanted to change the group avatar. I’ll have a look…
In reply to: Creating TOS hurdlesOr use something like this:
/**
* Add custom userdata from register.php
*/
function tj_add_to_signup( $usermeta )
{
$usermeta['accept_tos'] = $_POST['accept_tos'];
return $usermeta;
}
add_filter( 'bp_signup_usermeta', 'tj_add_to_signup' );
/**
* Update usermeta with custom registration data
*/
function tj_user_activate_fields( $user )
{
update_usermeta( $user['user_id'], 'accept_tos', $user['meta']['accept_tos'] );
return $user;
}
add_filter( 'bp_core_activate_account', 'tj_user_activate_fields' );
/**
* Perform checks for custom registration data
*/
function tj_check_additional_signup()
{
global $bp;
if( $_POST['accept_tos'] != 'agreed' )
$bp->signup->errors['accept_tos'] = __( 'Please make sure to read our Terms of Service and then check this box!', 'traveljunkie' );
}
add_action( 'bp_signup_validate', 'tj_check_additional_signup' );
/**
* Add newsletter and TOS to register page
*/
function tj_add_to_registration()
{
?>
<div id="tos" class="register-section">
<?php do_action( 'bp_accept_tos_errors' ) ?>
<label><input type="checkbox" name="accept_tos" id="accept_tos" value="agreed" /> <?php _e( 'Check this box to accept our <a href="/terms-of-service" target="_blank">Terms Of Service</a> (required)', 'traveljunkie' ) ?></label>
</div>
<?php
}
add_action( 'bp_before_registration_submit_buttons', 'tj_add_to_registration' );You’d have to adjust the links and some other stuff slightly, though. Put this in your (child-)themes functions.php file. I use the above for all kinds of stuff, like newsletter signup. You could add the quiz stuff then with a bit of jQuery.
In reply to: Creating a test sub-domainif you want a proper sanbox, get yourself setup with wamp or xampp on your local machine. much better solution than having a sandbox online.
In reply to: Landing page for guests?Basically you do this:
if( ! is_user_logged_in() )
{
// here's the stuff for guests
}
else
{
// and here is your activity stream
}I’m pretty sure this has been discussed quite a bit, so you’ll find more info in the forums here.
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and DiscussionWise choice, mate
I think tag based albums are awesome, but the vast majority of our users wouldn’t know what to do with it. When I look at the images of my Facebook friends, then maybe 1 image in 10 has a description attached to it, so expecting a user to tag every image isn’t gonna work, especially not if the use of this isn’t immediatly apparent to the user. It’s a great addon, though, and there’ll be some communities where it’ll work brilliantly…
In reply to: How to make a private community?ah, it makes sense now. my code makes all blog pages public, which obviously includes the frontpage as well. so if you’re showing the activity stream there, it would be public. I guess you want to make your complete site private? then the code below should work for you:
function sh_walled_garden()
{
global $bp;
if( bp_is_register_page() || bp_is_activation_page() )
return;
if( ! is_user_logged_in() )
bp_core_redirect( $bp->root_domain .'/'. BP_REGISTER_SLUG );
}
add_action( 'get_header', 'sh_walled_garden' );In reply to: How to make a private community?well, i’ve got it running on a single install of wp 3.0 alpha, so there shouldn’t be any problems.
In reply to: How to make a private community?it’s only a better solution for you, cause you couldn’t get the other one to work
but anyways, glad you found something that does work!
In reply to: How to make a private community?hmm, weird. maybe it’s a child theme thing. i use it on a parent theme. shouldn’t be a problem, though.
I pasted it at the first line= not working
I pasted it with the */Private Community*/ and the code below= not workingi didn’t get these two lines at all. with the second method, there’s no need to put anything on the first line of header.php.
In reply to: How to make a private community?cheers! didn’t even think of the get_header action. even cleanerer…
@hachimaki and @marioe,
well, don’t know why it’s not working for you guys, works perfectly for me… maybe you did paste something wrong. try just this in functions.php:
function sh_walled_garden()
{
global $bp;
if( bp_is_register_page() || bp_is_activation_page() )
return;
if( ! bp_is_blog_page() && ! is_user_logged_in() )
bp_core_redirect( $bp->root_domain .'/'. BP_REGISTER_SLUG );
}
add_action( 'get_header', 'sh_walled_garden' );You can delete the walled_garden action call in header.php
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and DiscussionI agree with Modemlooper. It’s not realistic to expect users to tag every single image. It’s just not gonna happen. The basics should be albums. Then users can tag images, if they want, and all tagged images could then be grouped into tag-albums.
Nope, you’re on a BuddyPress powered site, but the forums that are integrated into BuddyPress are powered by BBPress.
In reply to: How to make a private community?This is what I came up with:
place the function below into functions.php in your theme folder.
function sh_walled_garden()
{
global $bp;
if ( bp_is_register_page() || bp_is_activation_page() )
return;
if( ! bp_is_blog_page() && ! is_user_logged_in() )
bp_core_redirect( $bp->root_domain .'/'. BP_REGISTER_SLUG );
}
add_action( 'walled_garden', 'sh_walled_garden' );and this right on top of header.php (before the <!DOCTYPE… parts):
<?php do_action( 'walled_garden' ) ?>The above makes all BP pages private, except the registration and activation pages. It also leaves all blog pages public. It’s a bit easier than editing all theme pages.

In reply to: Can any WP-Theme be converted into a BP-Theme?haven’t used the template pack plugin myself, but yes, any theme can be converted to a bp-theme. after all, all you do is add stuff and then chech and adjust the styling. so, i imagine that you can use the template pack plugin on any theme.
In reply to: Group Types & RolesWell, thinking about it, when roles come into play it might be a bit more difficult, cause users can have different roles for different blogs. As far as I know there are no global roles. You’d have to implement your own role system, which could be as easy as assigning some usermeta and check against that if the user is allowed to see this or that part of the website…
In reply to: Group Types & RolesThat would be just a continuation of what i wrote earlier. All you need is the group type and the user id and you can do anything with that user…
