    @mockiboo,

    sorry for you that you encountered an issue when you activated BuddyPress.
    But why did you test a plugin on a production site ?

    You are also using a very specific Premium theme, and if your site was “ruined in one step”, maybe you forgot to read the theme documentation before adding a new plugin.

    I suggest to contact the premium theme author as we have no access to that theme or, hire a developer to ID the issue and/or make the theme compatible with BP and some other scripts runing on your site.

    Sorry, i don’t understand what you want to do.

    how can I add an extra site on my wordpress blog only with the post-form of buddypress ?

    I (and many others here) probably could answer to this:
    – how can I add an extra site on my wordpress blog

    But not to this:
    – only with the post-form of buddypress.

    What do you mean by buddypress post-form ? Where is this post form ?
    What is the relation between the mentionned php lesson and BP ? I know what is a form, but do YOU know where the form content may go once the form action was applied ? And if a user inject crap, what will happen to your site ?

    PHP technique and BuddyPress are 2 separates things, even if the one use the other (and inversely), but at this stage, you don’t need php technique, but to explain clearer or, simplier, to give a living example used elswhere.

    This is not enough:
    I’m trying so make a share Button for my BP Community like Facebook, Twitter an G+ have one.
    Still exist as plugin (…and a wide selection !)

    But the following is absolutely incomprehensible to me: For this I need an extra Site And what you explained here also. Sorry.

    Grabing external content to add into a blog post is full part of WordPress.
    Tools > PressThis. Apparently not what you want to use…

    But if i follow you, members from YOUR site have a share button (where is this button anyway ?)
    and when they are on another site, they can share interesting content on YOUR site.

    This is how internet is working (at least)….

    To do this, most people copy the url and paste it into a post.
    Or use a browser tool and add the link to their favorites,
    or use a share button who works only inside the community they belong. (FB, Twitter, BuddyPress, und so weiter…)

    Two hypotheses:
    you’re ignoring that you’re able to build the absolute revolutionnary BuddyPress sharing plugin (and it’s not for tomorrow if you’re in the beginner’s stage) – prefer to learn WordPress internal behaviour and use existing functions instead.

    or you try to reinvent the wheel (oder noch besser gesagt, ein überkompliziertes werkzeug). Sorry again. 😉

    Before starting custom work, perhaps give a try to buddypress links plugin.

    @elliscooper29,

    here some explanation about the name field

    For theme customization, read first the codex.
    Create a child theme, and add a copy of bp-legacy/buddypress/members/register.php to the child,
    /your_cild_theme/buddypress/members/register.php.

    Then you can give your beautiful registration page a chance to live ! 😉

    If other questions around this, give your theme name.

    Is it a recommended idea?

    If you mastered the situation and know what you do, almost any idea is “recommanded”. 😉

    You can do this by using a multisite install.

    BP installed on the main site with his own theme (your-site.com) and another blog on sub-domain (mysub-domain/your-site.com) with another theme.

    This is the most easiest install option. But you can also install BP on a secondary blog.

    Registering is made on the main site, as it would be the hart of your network, and by consequence, the unique place where user can register.

    In reply to: Create a group

    @danbp

    @jessicana,

    if you allow group creation to your members, they can do so by going to group directory.
    The “create group” button is in the group header.

    Once created, the member see on his profile, a tab named My Groups (or Groups) with a counter. On the tab, the group list created by him.

    -> When users are logged out, they have no access to the Toolbar or to the Create Group button on the group directory.

    This is so by default. Any other behaviour can be considered as theme related (for ex. if you use a theme specifically designed for BuddyPress). IMHO rare, but can eventually exist.

    You can hide the Toolbar to logged out user in the buddypress settings.

    About BP/WP jargon:
    the Toolbar is the wordpress black toolbar at the top of the site.
    the User menu is the menu at the top right corner, under wp’s Howdy
    the buddymenu is the bar under the page header and before the page content. Depending the context (page, status), this menu bar has an associated sub menu.

    @danbp

    @jessicana,

    The field NAME in the field group BASE is required. This group is used for the registration page to work. As you already know, it’s also this group who allows you to show custom fields on the registration page.
    The NAME field in BuddyPress is intended to receive first and last name and replace the two original fields (first name, last name) coming with WordPress.

    That said, you can hide this field to users, but you can’t give them the choice to show/hide it.

    The above snippet will hide the field NAME to all visitors/members, but not to site admin and the concerned profile.

    function bpfr_make_name_members_only( $retval ) {
    	//hold all of our info
    	global $bp;

    	// is xprofile component active ?
    	if ( bp_is_active( 'xprofile' ) )

        // The user ID of the currently logged in user
        $current_user_id = (int) trim($bp->loggedin_user->id);

        // The author that we are currently viewing
        $author_id  = (int) trim($bp->displayed_user->id);

    	// user can see only his name && admin can see everyone
    	if ($current_user_id !== $author_id && !current_user_can('delete_others_pages') ) {
    		$retval['exclude_fields'] = '1';
    	}
    	return $retval;
    }
    add_filter( 'bp_after_has_profile_parse_args', 'bpfr_make_name_members_only' );

    Add this to your child-theme functions.php or to bp-custom.php

    @gema75 thank you for this information, but nothing is mentionned about buddypress integration ?
    You also omit to say that it’s a premium plugin for the price of $22 !

    And, please, don’t jump into old post, mainly for advertising only.

    Topic is now closed.

    you have to find the css file where you did the rounded avatars ! And if you find nothing, you can do the work again… 🙄
    Can’t help you more about this.
    Next time, remember to never make a modification in a core file (plugins, themes,…) as you will loose it at the next update.

    @danbp

    Participant

    It’s not a buddypress issue, the members core widget on your homepage contains rounded avatars.

    Did you updated your theme recently ?
    Do you use a child theme or did you made the rounded css in the original theme ?
    Ask your Premium theme support.

    @danbp

    Participant

    @iryna_b,

    and what about if the user doesn’t use the widget navigation but goes directly to a group ?
    Change the group landing tab ! Thought it’s simplier.

    See here how to do it.

    For the group header information, you can create a child-theme and modify group-header.php file
    Line 40 you remove this:
    <span class="activity"><?php printf( __( 'active %s', 'buddypress' ), bp_get_group_last_active() ); ?></span>

    Glad you got it to work !

    FYI: BP Poke comes with his own languages folder who contains po/mo in english. This is wrong, but has no influence if you want to use another language.

    The reason is that many authors create a po file instead of a pot file, and when they save the file, poEdit (or similar) automatically creates a mo file.
    The correct file name should be bp-poke.pot ! You can remove the original – in english – mo, totally useless: the plugin is coded in english !

    To use a translation for this plugin, you add xx_XX.mo to bp-poke/languages/xx_XX.mo

    Text domain ref: bp-poke.php:50

    You have to test with another theme. And check your site settings.
    All this is firstly a worpress installation issue, then a theme setting and finally a buddypress setting.

    yes, you can have all this !
    Profiles are public, but you can set them as “members only”.
    And each member can choose the field visibility. Also it is very easy to let some fields public, allow to members or only to users friends.

    You can also hide comments with your conditionnals.

    Discover here all buddypress features and read a bit the codex to see all things you can realize with buddypress.

    hi @sguzen,

    On a MS install, the default behaviour for a new user is:
    – once register approved
    – automatically member of the main site – by default this is the “network”.

    You simply disallow registering on the sub blogs, by uncheking Allow user to register. This will force any new user to use the netwwork register page.
    And you add a function to exclude the subscriber role to appear on activities and a recount on the member directory, so subscriber won’t be counted in the members list.

    function bpdev_exclude_users($qs=false,$object=false){

     	if ($object != 'members') {
     		return $qs;
    	}

    	$subscribers = get_users('role=subscriber');

    	$exclude = "";
    	foreach ($subscribers as $subscriber) {
    		if (trim($exclude) != "") {
    			$exclude = $exclude . ",";
    		}
    		$exclude = $exclude . $subscriber -> ID;
    	}

    	$args['exclude'] = $exclude;
     	$qs = build_query($args);
     return $qs;
    }
    add_action('bp_ajax_querystring','bpdev_exclude_users', 20, 2 );
    function bpfr_hide_get_total_filter($count){
    	return $count-1;
    }
    add_filter('bp_get_total_member_count','bpfr_hide_get_total_filter');

    Take a look to component class file, you will find anything related to how components and their filter are built. All component have such a file.

    Is it possible to chain filters ? I don’t think so, or under condition to write a very complex query. And activities are ajaxified !

    In bp-activities-class.php:307 you’ll find 'meta_query' => false, // Filter by activitymeta, so i presume, you know what you can do with this argument. 😉

    See also bp_parse_args, who let you filter the activity loop very easily.

    That is the BIG question ! If you read the comment i mentionned, it says “converted space”.

    In fact, as stated before, @mention use $username combined with $user_id
    This works in almost every situation, i think.
    If your username (pseudo) is henrywrigth, first name henry, last name wright, the display name would be automatically henrywright. As display_name is the first and last name, not the username.

    Same thing if you chosee HW102 as username (pseudo) and first name henry, last name wright, the display name would be automatically henry wright.

    On frontend, we’ll see HW102 and on mouseover, we’ll see henrywright. (with converted space)
    On backend, we have HW102 (username) and Henry Wright (NAME)

    NAME is the BP combination of WP’s first+last name on a profile.
    And you always mention somebody by the username.

    I just tested Duena and the BP translation is fine.

    Recheck your po/mo files. Here what you must have:

    duena – leave as is.
    buddypress/bp-languages/buddypress.pot
    wp-config – if you use english, as it’s default language you have nothing to do
    // define(‘WP_LANG’, ” );
    wp-content/languages/plugins/buddypress-en_US.mo

    Now if you want to modify only some strings, make a copy of the pot file and put it in a folder outside of buddypress.

    From this copy you remove anything you don’t want and keep only the 2 lines or 4 lines (if plural form) who belong to the string you want to change. You keep only the string you want to change.
    Once done, save and rename it buddypress-en_US.po and open it with a text editor (not poEdit), as we’re going to modify the header.

    msgid ""
    msgstr ""
    "PO-Revision-Date: 2014-09-12 00:05+0100\n"
    "MIME-Version: 1.0\n"
    "Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8\n"
    "Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n"
    "Plural-Forms: nplurals=2; plural=n > 1;\n"
    "X-Generator: Poedit 1.5.7\n"
    "Project-Id-Version: BuddyPress 2.0.2\n"
    "POT-Creation-Date: \n"
    "Last-Translator: \n"
    "Language-Team: \n"
    "Language: en\n"
    "X-Poedit-SourceCharset: UTF-8\n"
    "X-Poedit-Basepath: .\n"
    "X-Poedit-KeywordsList: __;_e;__ngettext:1,2;_n:1,2;__ngettext_noop:1,2;"
    "_n_noop:1,2;_x:1,2c;_nx:4c,1,2;_nx_noop:4c,1,2;_ex:1,2c;esc_attr__;"
    "esc_attr_e;esc_attr_x:1,2c;esc_html__;esc_html_e;esc_html_x:1,2c\n"
    "X-Poedit-SearchPath-0: ..\n"

    The rest of the file looks like this:

    msgid "Friendships"
    msgstr ""  <strong><- replacement goes here</strong>

    #: bp-friends/bp-friends-template.php:588
    msgid "%s friend"
    msgid_plural "%s friends"
    msgstr[0] ""
    msgstr[1] ""

    Save in text format utf8 without BOM. (important)

    Now you can open this po file with poEdit, do your translation and save so that poEdit generate a mo file (see poEdit settings first to get this automatically each time you save a file).

    Copy the mo file in the appropriate folder and, normally, you’re done.
