In reply to: How to make my site like Facebookyou seem to be affraid by the term “legacy”… ?
Read here some explanation about legacyLike BuddyPress, bbPress is only a plugin.
Generally when you need a theme, you search a theme for wordpress, not for a plugin.Of course some a better than other, or better tailored to do something than other, but in anyway, no theme can be perfect for anything.
And in some case, ready to use is not synonym of adaptable ready.
If you search forum themes, see first what other forum software have to propose. One of the most popular, phpbb, is desperatly identical from one site to another in 90% of case. When you have 1 000 of WP theme and you add a bbpress or a buddypress group forum, you have potentially 1 000 different forum look.
Basically it’s a grid, so it’s a bit difficult to present a forum in a very original maner. And finally too much work for many users or considered as out of rentability (100 hours to get a nice forum and 3 topics after 2 mounth….search the error ! )
In reply to: How to make my site like Facebooki’m not a mention expert @henrywright 😉
in wp_users table we have 3 cols related to name
user_login | user_nicename | display_namein the members admin we have 2 cols related to name:
username | name |Frontend
On the SWA we see
@usernamein the member directory we see
@usernameon the member profile
@username(near avatar) and first name, last name as page title. As example:
New account for Jane Doeif you create the account in the wp admin, you have to enter
username, first name, last nameThe default registering on frontend
wp part: Username (aka pseudonym) = Jenny
bp part: Name (aka first name and/or last name) Jane Doein both case, the db will contain
user_login | user_nicename | display_name
jenny | jenny | Jane DoeAccording to
bp_activity_get_user_mentionnamefunction, the appropriate user name for@-mentionsis user_nicename or$userdata->user_loginWithout forgetting to mention this comment, in bp-activity-functions.php
// In username compatibility mode, hyphens are ambiguous between // actual hyphens and converted spaces. // // @todo There is the potential for username clashes between 'foo bar' // and 'foo-bar' in compatibility mode. Come up with a system for // unique mentionnames. But don’t ask me what is the username compatibility mode, i don’t know ! 😉
In reply to: Changing Name's default visibilitynot the exact answer, but a way how to do it.
This snippet will make the NAME field hidden to all except for adminsfunction bp_define_hidden_fields( $hidden_fields, $displayed_user_id, $current_user_id ) { //if not admin or if not the profile of the current user if ( !is_super_admin( $current_user_id) && ($displayed_user_id != $current_user_id) ) { //add name field ( id = 1 ) to the hidden fields $hidden_fields[] = 1; } return $hidden_fields; } add_filter('bp_xprofile_get_hidden_fields_for_user','bp_define_hidden_fields', 10 ,3 );Reference:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-wall/In reply to: [Resolved] Translation Not Working11. Do you have any custom functions in bp-custom.php? Yes, the function from every tutorial talking about the language, but changed for my custom language file.
Which tutorial are you telling about ?
Remove that function, it’s not necessary i guess.
By default, you set your site language in wp-config define ( ‘WP_LANG’, ‘de_DE’ ); and in wp settings > general (depending if single or MS install)
Where to put the translation ?
wp-content/languages/de_DE.mo (this is the WP translation)
wp-content/languages/plugins/buddypress-de_DE.mo (this is the BP translation)
wp-content/languages/themes/theme_name-de_DE.mo (this is the theme translation)You say you used gedit to generate your translation. It’s a text-editor, not a mo compiler. (mo means machine only, you can’t read it !)
I suggest that you use poEdit to make a translation and generate a correct mo file.
On Ubuntu, you can (not sure) use the msgmt command from the gettext package. Something like this$> msgfmt -o your_file.mo -v your_file.po
In reply to: How to make my site like Facebookbe patient ! The upcoming BP 2.1 version brings huge improvement to mentions handling, with auto suggestion.

you’re using a premium theme who uses some custom settings. You have to check them also. Aside you paid a license including support. Ask there, as we can’t help you on this aspect.
I just want to get the list of buddypress shortcodes.
Doesn’t exist. You can create a shortcode or use this plugin:

500 Internal Server Error is a generic error message, given when no more specific message is suitable. There are a number of causes for a 500 Internal Server Error to display in a web browser. (cite)
Which theme do you use ?

In reply to: [Resolved] Buddypress activity always jumps to TOP@millir,
I tested your function and nothing is returned.to get the activities, i changed
$output .= locate_template( array( 'activity/entry.php' ), true, false );to
$output .= bp_get_template_part( 'activity/entry' );Being philosophical ? Yes at least, for sure ! 😉
Whatever is well conceived is clearly said… and the words to say it flow with ease. Nicolas BoileauBut it’s not really the case on this topic 😉 I’m french and you a buddypress n00b (your expression).
First, I suggested you to create a page.
You answered that you built a CPT and changed the slug by following a tutorial. This is working for page and not for CPT ?!!!Forget my snippets for the moment, and try to explain what you did exactly (a code example would be great).
And also, once the cpt will work, what do you expect after that ?
In reply to: [Resolved] bp_moderate capability?See in bp-groups/bp-loader.php how the menu is built
Ad if not already done, read here: https://codex.buddypress.org/plugindev/extend-groups-admin-ui/Deactivate all plugins but buddypress and activate 2014 and retest your install.
See if the notices disappear and if the site loads correctly.
If not, deactivate buddypress and retest. If ok, activate custom community and retest only with wp.
If the errors are back, you have the culprit.
If it is ok, activate BP. Retest. If ok, you reactivate one by one your plugins. Except BP Toolbar, outdated and still in beta since april 2013. This plugin was intended for BP 1.5 to 1.7. And BuddyPress is use now the wp Toolbar.
If nothing of this is working correctly, you have to ask on the theme support.
In reply to: [Resolved] bp_moderate capability?wp roles and bp capacities are two diffrent things.
bp_moderate has a specific usage applied to the site admin only. If you read what is written in bp-core-caps.php, you’ll see this comment at line 200* Temporary implementation of 'bp_moderate' cap. * * In BuddyPress 1.6, the 'bp_moderate' cap was introduced. In order to * enforce that bp_current_user_can( 'bp_moderate' ) always returns true for * Administrators, we must manually add the 'bp_moderate' cap to the list of * user caps for Admins. * * Note that this level of enforcement is only necessary in the case of * non-Multisite. This is because WordPress automatically assigns every * capability - and thus 'bp_moderate' - to Super Admins on a Multisite * installation. See {@link WP_User::has_cap()}. * * This implementation of 'bp_moderate' is temporary, until BuddyPress properly * matches caps to roles and stores them in the database. Plugin authors: Do * not use this function.BuddyPress groups moderators are not authorized to enter the admin dashboard or the group admin on frontend. Group moderators can only delete, move and spam group activities or topics. If the group has a forum, they wil have the same capacities.
If you want a user to be able to access the admin dashboard, you can give him an editor role (which is a wp role).
If you want to allow him access to the group admin on the front-end, you promote him to group admin. This setting doesn’t allow that user to enter the site admin. He’s only a group admin (with a wp role of subscriber, by default) and not a site admin (admin or super-admin (MS) ).
In reply to: Adding video into activity without pluginBecause frontend users (usualy with subscriber role) are not allowed to use html tags in the activitiy editor. And they are not authorized to use the media library.
All this for a simple security reason. Hope you understand it ! 😉In reply to: BuddyPress WHOIS-ONLINE-WIDGET-REFRESHwho’s online refreshes after 5 mn.

give this a try:
tested on wp 4.0 bp 2.0.2 theme 2013 – snippet is in bp-custom.php/*activity stream on homepage */ if (!function_exists('wwn_bp_activities')) { function wwn_bp_activities( ) { ob_start(); // Remove 'bp_replace_the_content' filter to prevent infinite loops remove_filter( 'the_content', 'bp_replace_the_content' ); if ( bp_has_activities( bp_ajax_querystring( 'activity' ) . If you have a template you can display content, with conditionnals.
Read here to see what it is on hand for template files:In reply to: Ning Importer and BuddyPress NavigationThe patch has not much to do with wp.
Depending of the BP version you use on the old sites, you can use the fix !
Compare the buddypress-functions.php and if you find a line similar to the one alreadyfixed, you can try to use the patch.Aside it could not work, there is nothing to loose to try!
