    @seeingblues2,

    i just tested bp default data as super-admin on a 2013 theme. Normally, super-admin can go and do anything, huh ?

    Went to the dashboard, opened one of the private group i’m not member of and added me as group member.
    WHAT ?!!! The following users could not be added to the group ! Incredible !

    Always from the dashboard, I created a new group. This directed me to the frontend where i registered my new group.

    Back to the dashboard, and from the new group, i added 2 members without any problem.
    Normal !

    I reoppened the first group who haven’t accept my membership, and tried again. This time it worked.

    I logged me out, cleared my nav cache, and retested by processing the same as previous within another group. Again i received the failure message. But i regisred my change and suddenly my name appeared in the group name…. Tried several more, with different behaviour. Sometimes it works immediatly, sometimes after a few seconds, sometimes not at all.

    No idea what make this happen. Perhaps some latency issue because of the name suggestion tool ?
    Maybe that the Default data plugin doesn’t handle this properly ? Maybe its the theme ?

    I thought guess it’s a little bp bug.

    Please open a ticket with some details and link to this topic.

    Hi @lunaya,

    activate debug mode in wp-config to get some internal information

    And read here:

    Have you setup a page for groups ?
    Have you changed the permalinks ?

    Configure BuddyPress

    A 404 error ? If you copy/paste a wrong url this can happen !

    When you create a new page in wordpress, a permalink is automatically created under the title box.
    You copy that whole permalink, including http, into the snippet
    'link' => 'your permlink', do not remove the coma ! And be carefull when editing code. Use a text editor, not Word !

    The snippet give you the possibility to add a page to a profile, and this page use his own template file, as also described.

    Don’t copy/paste when you don’t know how to use it and how things are working.
    For that you have the codex, where you can learn a bit on how BP is working.
    Here about theming.

    You’re welcome πŸ˜‰ Glad you got it to work !

    No, passwords are encrypted !

    And for your misfortune, any thing encrypted can be decrypted ! With more or less effort, time and money.

    Are you living in a candy world ? πŸ˜‰

    To avoid any temptation, the only option is to deactivate the private message component.

    Check also the language setting in dashboard > general and don’t forget to save !

    hi @aghajoon,
    don’t jump into old post please !

    Much more convenient, would be to use the buddypress notification manager plugin !

    Works with 4.0 and bp 2.02

    @cartographer,
    nobody forces the admin to read private messages, except, depending the country, some laws or other regulations. Any other reason to read is a personnal option.

    And it is anyway possible by reading the message table in the db.

    To disambiguate any further question around this, read the answer of @johnjamesjacoby

    @durkk,

    IMHO you do it overcomplicated.

    Create a new page; call it “extra”
    Create eventually a template for it. Basically, you made a copy of your theme “page.php”, you rename it “my-extra_page.php” and in the file header, you remove the original page comment and replace it with the new template comment.

    /*
    * Template name: my extra page
    */

    Save !

    Back to the page “extra” > edit and asign it the new template.

    Now you can add a this page to each profile by using the abose snippet from the child-theme functions.php

    function bpfr_my_setup_nav() {
        global $bp;

    	$mytab=array(
    	'name'            => 'My Tab',
    	'link' => 'permalink_to_your_page', // the one under the page title on page editor
    	'slug'         	  => 'my-tab',
    	'css_id'          => 'my_custom_tab',
    	'position'        => 100,
    	'user_has_access' => 1,
        'screen_function' => 'xprofile_screen_my_tab'
    	);
    	$bp->bp_options_nav['profile']['my-tab'] = $mytab;
    }
    add_action('bp_setup_nav', 'bpfr_my_setup_nav');

    You can now add into this page template any code you want. To call a plugin, a specific content or what else.

    To avoid this page to be shown in the menu bar, you can use this old plugin (it still works with 4.0)

    To use a shortcode from within the text widget (this is not possible by default)
    you can add this to your child-theme functions.php add_filter('widget_text', 'do_shortcode', 11);
    Now you can use a shortcode in this widget !

    it should work !
    Verify that your po/mo files are correctly using the _ underscore character not the – hyphen.
    bbpress-ru_RU.mo

    and set your site to the correct language, as actually he uses <html class="no-js" lang="en-US"> in the header !

    This should be made in wp-config define('WPLANG', 'ru_RU'); … if the site is in russian of course.

    @admindirektor,

    how do you expect some help if you don’t give the theme name or a site url ?
    This is not a buddypres issue, but a wordpress setting affair.

    Make the member package page as start page and set buddypress as private or members only.

    More about “private” here:
    https://buddypress.org/support/tag/private/

    @robertne,

    installing an extra site just for sharing posts is somehow a big task for… nothing and requires a multisite install. Made it simple ! Share your RSS feed…
    http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-add-social-buttons-to-wordpress-rss-feed/

    Sorry If i misunderstand you. If the goal is to ADD an external link to your posts, you can create a custom post type for that or simply paste the link into a post.

    If this is also not what you want, explain what kind of post, from where and how your members should use a sharing button. Even if BuddyPress doesn’t handle posts, he only shows them.

    Also you can read some related forum topics here:

    @marriagebroker, @bitpath

    Here 2 snippets you can use (one or both depending your needs).
    Add them to your child-theme functions.php or to bp-custom.php

    /* remove "not recently active" */
    function bpfr_core_get_last_activity( $last_activity_date, $string ) {
    		if ( empty( $last_activity_date ) )
    				// we do nothing
    				$last_active = '';
    			else
    				$last_active = sprintf( $string, bp_core_time_since( $last_activity_date ) );
    		}
    add_filter( 'bp_core_get_last_activity', 'bpfr_core_get_last_activity' );

    /* remove whole recently active filter */
    function bpfr_remove_last_activity_filter() {
        remove_filter( 'bp_core_get_last_activity', $last_active, $last_activity_date, $string );
    }
    add_filter( 'bp_core_get_last_activity', 'bpfr_remove_last_activity_filter' );

    I don’t have a local version of

    you should, because it is particularly useful in this kind of situation πŸ˜‰

    @danbp

    Participant

    change the tables prefix !
    Check also some index.php firstly, for some encrypted datas, like base64_decode on the first line…

    If this matches, you have also to scan your computer.

    You can use the wordfence plugin (and de-install if nothing is found)

    This one is really efficient against fake registering.

    But in any case, this is like carrying water in a sieve or perforated device !

    <teacher mode>: the name ISO derives from the greek word iso, which means equal.</teacher mode>

    In other words, a mirror install. Or more popular, you have the exact same install locally as on the production site.
    With only one difference: the urls ! For example: http://localhost/ vs. http://your_site.com/

    So I really need to do a whole new db?
    IMHO: yes. As we haven’t found what is causing the trouble who prevents BP to be installed.

    Or you missed something during the test, or you did something wrong, or something else, undefined for now.

    But wait a little to get some other opinions.

    @danbp

    Deactivate first, than remove myCred plugin from the server, we used it only to test your db.
    Deactivate also the ubermenu plugin, while testing and installing BP. You can reactivate it after, but you should update it, you’re using version 2.3 and actual version is 2.4.0.3.

    Make also a db dump, because you probably need to make a fresh install from zero !

    Have you a local iso install of http://www.christicehurst.me ?

    @giggio,

    verify that your translation files are in the correct directory.

    For bbPress:
    wp-content/languages/bbpress/bbp-xx_XX.mo (required)
    wp-content/languages/bbpress/bbp-xx_XX.po (option)
    where xx is your language

    For BuddyPress:
    wp-content/languages/plugins/buddypress-xx_XX.mo (required)
    wp-content/languages/plugins/buddypress-xx_XX.po (option)

    FYI: both plugins are shipped with a pot file containing the strings you can translate.
    /plugin_name/languages/plugin_name.pot

    Don’t put a translation in this folder, as it will be overwritten at each update.

    Do you use the automatted plugin installer or do you do it manually via FTP ?

    hi @netsector,

    read first the documentation of your theme and anything about theme on the codex, then search the forum.

    Additionnally read also here and give at least your theme name.

    You obfuscate your pages source code, so it’s difficult to help you anyway.

    hi @canadadre,

    you have to read the mentionnedd topic AND to follow the links if the topic contains some. πŸ˜‰

    i hope for you that you know how to copy/paste, because the above snippets must be added to your child-theme functions.php, or better into bp-custom.php

    1. – Deny access to admins profile

    // deny access to admins profile. User is redirected to the homepage
    function bpfr_hide_admins_profile() {
    	global $bp;
    	if(bp_is_profile && $bp->displayed_user->id == 1 && $bp->loggedin_user->id != 1) :
    		wp_redirect( home_url() );
    	exit;
    	endif;
    }
    add_action( 'wp', 'bpfr_hide_admins_profile', 1 );

    2. – Remove admin from the member directory and recount members

    // Remove admin from the member directory
    function bpdev_exclude_users($qs=false,$object=false){

        $excluded_user='1'; // Id's to remove, separated by comma

        if($object != 'members' && $object != 'friends')// hide admin to members & friends
        return $qs;

        $args=wp_parse_args($qs);

        if(!empty($args['user_id']))
        return $qs;

        if(!empty($args['exclude']))
    		$args['exclude'] = $args['exclude'].','.$excluded_user;
        else
    		$args['exclude'] = $excluded_user;

        $qs = build_query($args);

        return $qs;

    }
    add_action('bp_ajax_querystring','bpdev_exclude_users',20,2);

    // once admin is removed, we must recount the members !
    function bpfr_hide_get_total_filter($count){
        return $count-1;
    }
    add_filter('bp_get_total_member_count','bpfr_hide_get_total_filter');

    3. – Hide admin’s activities from all activity feeds

    // hide admin's activities from all activity feeds
    function bpfr_hide_admin_activity( $a, $activities ) {

    	// ... but allow admin to see his activities!
    	if ( is_site_admin() )
    		return $activities;

    	foreach ( $activities->activities as $key => $activity ) {
    		// ID's to exclude, separated by commas. ID 1 is always the superadmin
    		if ( $activity->user_id == 1  ) {

    			unset( $activities->activities[$key] );

    			$activities->activity_count = $activities->activity_count-1;
    			$activities->total_activity_count = $activities->total_activity_count-1;
    					$activities->pag_num = $activities->pag_num -1;
    		}
    	}
    	// Renumber the array keys to account for missing items
    	$activities_new = array_values( $activities->activities );
    	$activities->activities = $activities_new;

    	return $activities;

    }
    add_action( 'bp_has_activities', 'bpfr_hide_admin_activity', 10, 2 );

    May this help !

    ok, now we are sure that your db is working.

    What about buddypress ?

    Could be that some old information are still in the base, so i suggest to restart a fresh install of buddypress. But first delete correctly bp. πŸ˜‰

    Follow the instructions from here, specially those related to the option table

    Deleting BuddyPress
