    hi @rundall,

    welcome to this forum !
    Before asking, it is good practice to search if a similar subject was already handled. Login redirection is a common question here.
    See here, you’ll find over 300 topics related to your question:

    Read also here.

    Have a nice day!

    Indeed !
    The Tag Widget should be renamed to something like:

    Increase your chances to get the right information by 500% by searching in the tags!

    Will certainly need an extra horizontal uberwidget with longtext format for the title, but other than that little detail, searching by tags is much better and efficient than the usual “Search the forum”.
    For those who search the forum before posting, of course. 😀

    i know, i’m off topic but a little humor doesn’t hurt.

    I really have no idea why buddypress tables can not be created on your DB.
    A rough solution would be trying to install another plugin, who also create tables and to check if it is working. MyCred is such a plugin. Clean and safe and written for buddypress. that plugin install one table. Give this a try. Upload, activate and see if a table called yourprefix_mycred_log is in the db.

    If it exist, your db is ok as it accet table creation, but not from bp installer.

    What is blocking BP in this case ?

    One of the future of jetpack is
    The ability to allow applications to securely authenticate and access your site with your permission.

    See if you have a setting that would prevent plugins activation or db access

    Please give more details about the install.
    Host type and plugins list.
    Do you use a cache system ? Do you used an automated wordpress install from your host ?
    Which software do you use to access your db ?

    hi @dea8885,
    I don’t think it is possible to get different group on different pages. But if you give more details about why you want to do this, somebody can help you find another solution ?

    The group component use only one page for all groups. This page is the one you create when you activate the group component. From this point it is no more an ordinary page. So forget adding shortcodes to it.

    Component pages are intended to be used internaly for wp purpose, where buddypress add/remove templates and content depending the context.
    This page should stay empty.

    have you only one site for both languages ?
    It seems that the nl one use the classic wp register process and the second use bp registering.

    You use apparently the same registration page (in english), but if one version use an admin approval and the second want the activation key, there is something wrong or not correctly dispatched…

    Did you activate profile syncing in bp settings ?

    Please give more details about your install.

    @annyrakesh,

    please don’t jump into old post !

    You want to modifify this phrase:

    Registering for this site is easy. Just fill in the fields below, and we’ll get a new account set up for you in no time. who sit on the register page.

    The string is in bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members/register.php line 22
    and in the pot file of bp 2.0.2 at line 1236.

    The pot file is a working copy for translators, not the file to modify to get any customization.
    To do this you have to use poEdit, or a similar software.
    poEdit only read the pot file, then he create a po file on the fly and when you save this po file, poEdit generate a mo file.

    This is a compiled file, not human readable, who is used by the gettext php module to translate the strings he find in the buddypress code.

    Pot files are provided by the plugin authors. It’s a simple text format file with a specific syntax.
    The po file is also a text format file, but written differently, as it contains the original string in english AND the translation of this string in a foreign language.
    And the mo file is the system file who have to use on the server.

    register.php is a template file, so if you have to change only this phrase, you can make a copy and paste it into your child-theme and modify the wording directly in the file. Not orthodox, but it works.

    If you have other question about translation or wordings, feel free to open your own topic, give your bp version, theme name and used language on the installation.

    @xprt007,

    my 3 word recommendation: disallow group creation !
    And prevent your users, if they need a group, that they have to ask you to create it for them.

    A good pratice to avoid spam, is to use another table prefix as the default wp_table_name. Bots really like this prefix to rape databases. 👿

    Aside you can also try to stop some spambots via htaccess.
    Search on the web for more information on how you can do this.

    Here 2 lines you can add to htaccess to block some russian spambots (without any waranty)

    RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER}  ^(.*).ru/(.*)
    RewriteRule ^.*$   -   [F]

    hi @mahdiar,

    i short words: you can not embed any videos.
    You can only embed videos from approved providers. See the list on the WP codex.

    About the why, read here

    And for the how, here:
    https://codex.wordpress.org/Embeds

    That said, if you paste the url of a youtube(since wp 2.9) or funnyordie video (since wp 4.0) into an activity update, it will show up.
    If not, try with 2014 theme first.

    Test urls:

    @christicehurst,

    in other words, you didn’t use buddypress for a while and when you reactivate the plugin, all goes wrong.

    The easiest way to go is to deactivate buddypress from your plugins list and delete it.
    Check it is really the case in the wp-content/plugins/ directory on the FTP server.
    Then you check your database and delete any table (16 tables on a single install) you may encounter related to BP.
    Those tables are are all prefixed like this: _bp_table_name. By default, wp_bp_table_name.

    Once done, go back to your wordpress install and check if the site is working flawless.
    If ok, you install a new copy of buddypress via the plugin installer on the dashboard.

    Activate, adjust BP settings without forgetting the permalink setting, and enjoy.

    Tried all kind of things, i’m unable to reproduce your issue. Anything is appearing correctly, without having to refresh the page.

    If you consider it’s a bug, report it on the trac.

    hi @henrywright,

    you’re right, but buddypress use his own js to handle this textarea, and use what-new as ID and as name.
    If you remove the hyphen, the editor doesn’t work correctly because js couldn’t recognize it.

    Of course i tested with 2013, but also with 2014 and 3 other themes containing heavy js effect without any conflict. I think if BP is working without any issue with a given theme, the snippet can be used.

    If you have a better solution, i would be glad to learn.

    I understand, but i’m not here to help supporting premium themes. You paid the theme and for support.

    If you don’t know how to do this, you may want to consider hiring a developer.

    hi @stefanolusetti-1,

    here we go !
    You already copied buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/activity/post-form.php to the right place in your child-theme:
    /child-theme/buddypress/activity/post-form.php

    Excellent! Here’s more.

    We’re going to use the wp_editor function to accomplish the task.

    Note: wp_editor can replace any textarea. This means that if you use these function, that you have to remove the original textarea first.

    The above function use the new drag_drop_upload support introduced in WP 3.9

    First we go to remove the whats new textarea from this file, around line 29, and replace it with a custom action hook: whats_new_textarea

    Before

    <div id="whats-new-textarea">
    			<textarea name="whats-new" id="whats-new" cols="50" rows="10"><?php if ( isset( $_GET['r'] ) ) : ?>@<?php echo esc_textarea( $_GET['r'] ); ?> <?php endif; ?></textarea>
    </div>

    After

    <div id="whats-new-textarea">
       ?php do_action( 'whats_new_textarea' ); ?>
    </div>

    Save.

    Now go to /plugins/bp-custom.php (if the file doesn’t exist, you have to create it) and paste in this snippet.

    function bpfr_whats_new_tiny_editor() {
    	// deactivation of the visual tab, so user can't play with template styles
    add_filter ( 'user_can_richedit' , create_function ( '$a' , 'return false;' ) , 50 );

    	// building the what's new textarea
    	if ( isset( $_GET['r'] ) ) :
    	$content = esc_textarea( $_GET['r'] );
    	endif;

    	// adding tinymce tools
    	$editor_id = 'whats-new';
    		$settings = array(
    		'textarea_name' => 'whats-new',
    		'teeny' => true,
    		'media_buttons' => true,
    		'drag_drop_upload' => true,
    		'quicktags' => array(
    		'buttons' => 'strong,em,link,block,del,ins,img,ul,ol,li,code,close'));

    	// get the editor
    	wp_editor( $content, $editor_id, $settings );
    }
    add_action( 'whats_new_textarea', 'bpfr_whats_new_tiny_editor' );

    Save and enjoy !
