    FYI, there is no difference between SWA and My Groups when on the site activity page, except that this option is an activity tab filtered with a kind of just-my groups scope.

    In other words, if you decide to not show group activities on SWA, this will also be the case when you show My Groups.

    I’m affraid that none of the code snippet given here and there will handle separatly the activity page.

    As the concerned component is always ‘activity’, and the concerned activity type is the one you filter (groups, last_update,etc). See bp_activity table for more type names.

    No need to open another topic for this. You should be patient…

    I told you to test WP alone firstly, without any plugins. And testing means also producing volontary errors, such as sending empty register fields… You have to do this to ensure that WP is working.

    Once he does, you can add plugins and themes. Not all at the same time.

    When someone tries to register without a password, is it suppose to give an error?

    Yes of course, a big red writen error message ! As the other default fields on the register page, the pwd is absolutely necessary.

    I really don’t know what happens to your install. Have you tried with another browser ?

    The last thing to try would be to download a brand new copy of WordPress. Sometimes files are corrupted during a transfer. Then to test it alone, without any plugins.

    Trash all existing WP folders and files from your htdocs(or www) directory first.

    You can create those page manually.
    I recommend you to read attentively the install guide.

    htaccess is normaly in the site root folder. If none, create it and add this:
    (this is only for a single default install). Even if it has nothing to do whith password registering.

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>
    # END WordPress

    When you register a user from front end and enter the password, do you see dots when typing it ?
    Once saved, is this new user figuring in wp_signup AND wp_user tables with a password ?

    wp_signup is a temporary table where the new user is stored as long as he didn’t use the activation key. Once done, this entry is cleared and the account status of that user is changed in wp_user table.

    Guess this was used around BP 1.6 and previous. A related tread about this could be this one.

    For more information, see bp-core-buddybar.php:40

    Perhaps you also read a ticket. This one ?

    hi @mjc82in,

    BuddyPress is continuously evolving. 2 years back it was a mess trying to use CPT on SWA. That’s no more the case with BP 2.2

    Maybe this example will help you. It creates a CPT called Music which will show up on the SWA where you can comment it.

    Add the code to bp-custom.php

    // allow tracking of our CPT
    add_post_type_support( 'music', 'buddypress-activity' );

    function customize_page_tracking_args() {
        // Check if the Activity component is active before using it.
        if ( ! bp_is_active( 'activity' ) ) {
            return;
        }

        bp_activity_set_post_type_tracking_args( 'music', array(
            'component_id'             => 'activity',
            'action_id'                => 'new_music',
            'bp_activity_admin_filter' => __( 'Published a new music', 'text-domain' ),
            'bp_activity_front_filter' => __( 'Music', 'text-domain' ),
    			'contexts' => array( 'activity', 'member' ),
    			'activity_comment'         => true,
    			'bp_activity_new_post'     => __( '%1$s posted a new <a href="%2$s">Music</a>', 'text-domain' ),
    			'bp_activity_new_post_ms'  => __( '%1$s posted a new <a href="%2$s">Music</a>, on the site %3$s', 'text-domain' ),
    			'position'                 => 800,
        ) );
    }
    add_action( 'init', 'customize_page_tracking_args', 999 );

    function bpfr_create_post_type() {
      register_post_type( 'music',
        array(
          'labels' => array(
            'name' => __( 'Music', 'text-domain' ),
            'singular_name' => __( 'Music', 'text-domain' )
          ),
          'public' => true,
          'has_archive' => true,
        )
      );
    }
    add_action( 'init', 'bpfr_create_post_type' );

    – Where should I look for? Nowhere. If you have an error, you will see it on the screen. But you can test this anyway. Remove a dot or another sign in one of BP’s file and you will be fixed very quickly ! 😉

    – Sorry, i don’t use MAMP so i can’t give you any advice how to use it.

    – If you can register a user from the dashboard, i guess the registration is working. Can you also change a password from there ? Tought the problem is elswhere.

    Is mod_rewrite enabled on the server ? See your htaccess and httpd.conf in apache. Just in case of.

    Now the unknown part: when you register a new user and enter a password and save, you say the page refresh and password is not showing. OK. But do you have a message telling about a missing data ?

    GO to DB and check the wp_user table. Look about this new user and see if a hashed password is in the table. See also wp_signup table.

    Also, do you use a single or a multisite install ?

    Last but not least, did you allowed user registering ? (wp-admin/options-general.php – checkbox just after the site admin email)

    @danbp

    Activate wp_debug (set to TRUE) in the wp-config file. This can give you a lot of information about conflict and/or errors.

    Is MAMP configured correctly ?

    Can you correctly register a user from the back-end ?

    To get a page ID, simply mouse over the page title on the page list and you can see it in the bottom left corner of your brower.
    Someting like this:
    ../wp-admin/post.php?post=23&action=edit where “23” is the page ID. This number means post_type ID, so there is no difference between a post ID or a page ID except the post_type itself.

    If you use a single forum aside group forums, maybe review the forum settings.

    A single forum is declared as “forum”
    A group forum should be declared as “category”.

    Any user can send a message to the site admin if he use the default sender address: wordpress@yoursite.com

    Do you use other plugins as BP ?

    @danbp

    have you the same issue when BP is deactivated ?
    are you on a local install actually ?
    is this exactly what you see: <host>:<port>/index.php/register/

    Did you setup pretty permalinks ? Use what you want, except “by default”.

    Clear your browser cache. This happens sometimes when you register, then try to login as new user during the same session. Can also be due to theme or plugin settings.

    You can also read some older topics about this:

    Any ideas on what may have caused this ?

    That question was answered here.

    It’s the user who did it wrong, so guess there is no technical solution.

    The “from” wordpress@mysite.com is a default address which redirect to site admin address (the one you indicate when you setup WP).

    This can (and should be) changed, as its a common trick used by spammers. Read here how to do this.

    Anything related to messages and notifications is stored in bp-notifications and bp-messages folders.

    Style is handled in /buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/css/buddypress.css

    Version 9 and 6 are slightly different and Customizr doesn’t show a complete BP title when you use the latest patch (9). For example, you’ll see just the site name on single activities.

    Applying the first one made by imath will probably be the best solution in your situation. I won’t critizise Customizr, but personnally i won’t use it with BuddyPress. Because of this issue, and some others, handled on that theme support. 951,457 downloads maybe say it’s a popular theme, but 245 support pages in one year is something that get me a bit suspicious in term of usage.

    There is no miraculous method to apply a patch, and no special tips for that except if you don’t know how to copy/paste code, which i can’t belive is the case 😉

    So Codex is your friend to discover some other academic methods like using Tortoise.

    @danbp

    Not sure that Customizr is now working 100% with BP (1 year back it wasn’t compatible with BP).

    Anyway, issue is related to the theme. FYI, 2015 also doesn’t show up page titles…

    To solve this temporarely (until next update), you can apply this patch
    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/6107

    I tested v.6107.06 with Customizr and it works !

    Create first a bp-custom.php file and add it to the plugins directory.

    Than add these snippet, which let you handle activities which may not be commented.

    function browserco_activity_nocomment( $can_comment = true, $type = '' ) {
            if ( empty( $can_comment ) ) {
                    return $can_comment;
            }

            // list of activities which can't be commented
            $cant_comment_types = array(
    				'new_forum_topic' => 1,
    				'new_forum_post' => 1,
            );

            return ! isset( $cant_comment_types[ $type ] );
    }
    add_filter( 'bp_activity_can_comment', 'browserco_activity_nocomment', 10, 2 );

    Some BP activity types
    activity_comment
    activity_update
    last_activity
    friendship_created
    joined_group
    new_blog_post
    new_avatar
    updated_profile

    Note that some plugins add their own activity types. To get activity type names, go to the DB and check the “type” column in _bp_activity table.

    Seems you have to debug your installation by reverting back to a standart install of WP+BP only.
    Ensure also you don’t use any custom function in your child-theme functions.php or in /plugins/bp-custom.php

    Activate 2015 or 2013 theme, deactivate all plugins except BP.
    When things went fine, reactivate the plugins one by one. Maybe this will help you isolate a culprit.
