Don’t believe anything you read about SEO online. It is just the equivalent of scareware for site owners.
Google is moving to personalized search results and away from linked-in weighed results. One thing you can do is create a Google Plus page for your site then link it to your site. The people that then add your page to a circle (friend you) will see your items towards the top of their search results. This has a direct effect on all of Google products (search, Youtube, Gmail, etc.).
PS
This info comes direct from Google.Seems to be working now in ie 8.
PS
I see you are using a plugin to block users with ie 7 or older. One thing you should consider is most people using those versions are at work/school or other places where updating/switching are not possible. Unless it completely breaks you site you may want to let them use a less than perfect version apposed to blocking them. Just a thought.
There is a IE 8 bug (IE 7 & 9 not effected) that effects items with max-width and max-height. If you set max-width or max-height without setting the width or height the box will collapse.
Try setting that element to…
width:auto
height:autoDid you run the BP setup?
That “activation number” warning usually means she clicked on the link twice and it is already activated. Just tell her to try logging in. BP should really change the default text on that.
Here are the top 3 reasons why Buddypress is the best solution…
1. A Larger User Base
2 .A Larger User Base
3. A Larger User BaseDoes it require any theme changes from 1.6?
that’s all superstition created by people trying to sell junk seo advice. there are a few things you can do to help google such as site maps etc. but even without them google is really good at crawling sites. create a well designed site with good content and seo will take care of itself.
we use google search to power all our searches on our site including forums, members etc. using Refinement Tabs (one day i’ll create a tut). it indexes very well.
Thanks, but that only works on the member’s profile page.
^ agree
Thanks!
Anyone know if any of these changed in 1.6?
Does anyone know where in the WP core the function that inserts it into the footer is?
There seems to be very little about the toolbar WP core functions the codex. It’s very hard to Google, so if anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very thankful.

We have made lots of mods to it, so it may be more critical to us than on other sites. I understand why it’s in the footer and that may be best for most, but we have incorporated it into the header unlike the default usage. We could hard code it but I though there may be a way to do it within the functions.
Thanks that confirms what I was thinking.

On a related note… It would be nice if the Site Admin was notified when someone is banned by a Group Admin. In large site that allows member group creation this could help combat spam and other problem users.
Because bp-custom.php loads before BP is complete could that effect BP functions contained within the bp-custom.php plugin?
I have tested just about every “Premium” BP theme (including the one in your link) and I can tell you there is only one responsive (or otherwise) theme I would ever use…
PS
Have not tested Frisco, but it looks promising. Is there a way to add this to my custom functions.php so I don’t have to edit the template?
you the man

Good article. In my case the home is the blog page so I wouldn’t want duplicate links. But over time we may want to change that… anyway good info. I also wanted to make sure home.php worked the same in BP as it does in WP.
Perhaps there should be a simple skeleton child theme with an admin option for loading and switching between different style sheets. That way submitting designers only have to do the css and not the child theme skeleton. Have it somehow assign a unique id to each style sheet. Because there are no template changes you could use any of the style sheets and switch between at any time. You could have a different look everyday. Because there would be no php changes to the default BP theme it would be easy to support.
cool thanks!
I think you just described Buddypress.

I’ve used that as well. I think I’ll go with that. I’ve had issues in the past with BP conflicts using custom pagination.
While we are here… has BP given any thought to using the Activity “Load More” feature for Blog posts as well?
