In reply to: Group Invite by Email
@angelfire4xx The ‘Invite anyone’ plugin was originally written to extend the default send group invites to other members but that only allowed sending invites to join a group to people already on your personal friends list, ‘Invite Anyone’ changed that so it was possible to access a full site member list to invite from. Boone then further extended the plugin to have the capability of emailing invites to people not yet members; thus the plucin is in effect two functions in one.
Both aspects of the plugin can be fully controlled, you can set the group invites to specific roles i.e admins only, then general members will not see the option available; likewise you can set the email invites to admins only and they will be the only ones to see the tabs navigation and screens.
All these options are in the setup screen in the dashboard it’s just a case of spending a little time with the options, configure them to your requirements and testing the results!
In reply to: Blog comment AvatarsOdd that it appears fine on WPMU.
In reply to: WPMU 2.9.2 or WP 3.0 RC2?RC3! only caught up with RC2 last night
In reply to: WPMU 2.9.2 or WP 3.0 RC2?@pjnu it’s a simple edit plus a few additional steps once the menu items have been activated for the dashboard by the config change. If you already have a WPMU setup WP 3.0 detects that and you shouldn’t have to go through the MS setup procedure.
In reply to: Looking for a BP theme strong forum oriented…Have you checked out the ones posted on the site?
https://buddypress.org/extend/themes/
BP themes are not greatly thick on the ground.
It appears a good way, worth posting up.
Negative feedback? what in general or are you referring to my post which wasn’t intended as anything negative.
? what do you not get about the code snippet you pasted, what exactly is the stumbling block?
edit/ oh you mean pasting code into this site? so this example was posted in case useful. Was the plugin pcwriter mentioned no good?
If you want an even simpler but far from foolproof approach simply use the super global $_SERVER to run a check on the IP and allow the page to run if matching to a set IP or ELSE return a simple html under construction page. Of course this relies on you having a fixed IP
In reply to: Blog Title Changes Not Showing@reedjholmes just fyi this ticket has just been closed as resolved in the last twenty minutes. Thanks to @jjj
Think the correction will be in 1.2.5 but don’t quote me on that check the ticket where you will also be able to copy the modified code and update your files in advance if necessary.
In reply to: mY WEBSITE DISAPPEAREDDon’t leave others in the dark that may be having the same issue, it helps if you can just briefly summarize how you eventually got things corrected. Were there still bp plugins hanging around in plugins folder? did you rename the whole plugins folder?
In reply to: mY WEBSITE DISAPPEAREDNot sure , in what way? why do you ask about these specific files? what has prompted the question? error messages?
In reply to: Blog Title Changes Not ShowingI think that was my ticket. yes you can change the name in the BP table which is the route I had to take, not something I want to have to do on a regular basis though.
In reply to: mY WEBSITE DISAPPEAREDThought you might have deleted the actual WP install, but it appears to still be there, what happens when/if you try and login at /wp-admin/ white screen again?
Just to be safe rename the actual plugins folder itself so that any possible plugins are definitely prevented from running. if you have deleted the BP folder in plugins the default theme will also be removed and WP would revert back to stock default (there are no other BP child themes in /wp-content/themes/ are there?)
mu-plugins folder is a more problematic one as there is no access to it from the WP dashboard as files in this folder are automatically run, I had a BP related single file in there that caused a fatal error, I hadn’t remembered it was there and it wasn’t listed as such amongst the BP plugins when I was running through a deactivation.
In reply to: mY WEBSITE DISAPPEAREDauto-group-join plugin should have deactivated itself, thought Andy had banged on about the importance of plugins checking for BuddyPress sufficiently?
For future reference and to play absolutely safe the best practice when deactivating BP is to FIRST deactivate all BP reliant plugins BEFORE finally deactivating BP
Always worth a quick search as many questions have been covered before, work through this thread paying partiulat attention to r-a-ys comment
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/changing-group-tab-display-defaults/By ‘confused’ do you mean that you haven’t set up the server side proxying? simply enabling the plugin without having re-configured your server is unlikely to do a blind thing!
Did you check the documentation?

In reply to: DownloadYou’ll really need to re-post with some actual detail, this is all a bit vague at the moment.
Downloaded what?
To where?
What do you mean by launch button (no such creature as far as I’m aware)?
If you are talking about having downloaded BP then you need to unzip the package into your plugins folder and then log in to your WP site and activate said plugin. If you are talking about having run the auto plugin install of BP then similar idea; with it now living in your plugins section of WP it needs to be activated and a suitable BP theme selected. If you’re talking about WP itself then follow the 5 min install guide on the WP site
In reply to: upgrade to Wp 3 from Wp 2.9.2 with buddy press1.2.4.1 should work fine with WP 3.0.
That appears to be a case of yes and no though Paul, indeed it does “”appear” to work fine and I have a 1.2.4.1 running on WP 3.0 RC1 that is by and large OK yet it does have this issue with activity stream working on the front page so should work fine doesn’t sadly hold up. Again I wouldn’t be rushing to run 1.2.4.1 on WP 3.0 in a production environment rather waiting for BP 1.3 to be released and then a while for it’s issues to be ironed out.
In reply to: upgrade to Wp 3 from Wp 2.9.2 with buddy pressThis has been raised on another thread and I made comment at my surprise that so many appear to be rushing into upgrades to WP 3.0 which isn’t at stable final release yet (although rc 1 is likely the stable version ) in tandem with 1.2.4.1. There seems a belief that 1.2.4.1 is tested and intended to work with WP 3.0 yet reading the roadmaps and the only mention you will see of WP 3.0 is in the notes for BP 1.3, BP 1.2.4 makes no mention of WP 3.0.
Unless others know to the contrary 1.3 is the version that will be written to work fully with WP 3.0, that 1.2.4 does work is a testament to the fact that BP is getting to a stage where it will work pretty smoothly with any releases, but WP3.0 is a major version release with fundamental changes.
In reply to: Activity stream as front page in BP 1.2.4, WP 3.0 b2There seems to be a lot of talk about BP 1.2.4. in conjunction with WP 3.0 and that some believe that 1.2.4 was intended to work with WP 3.0 yet I see no mention of that fact when reading the roadmap for versions. BP 1.3 is the only one that mentions WP 3.0.
BP 1.2.4.1 was rushed out to fix an error in the initial release that included code from the 1.3 trunk spuriously.
If one wants a definitive answer I would think that downloading the trunk and running that against WP 3.0 should give a good idea of whether this is a real issue and requires a ticket raised or simply that 1.2.4.1 is not intended to work flawlessly with WP 3.0

To elaborate on that, Apache directives have conditions which govern where they can be set from the directive ‘AllowOveride’ is one that says what may be overridden or reset from outside the main config file , in other words it is the directive that allows certain other actions to be run from the .htaccess file at site directory levels, so logically this directive can’t itself be run from that file as it has to run in advance to allow .htaccess rules. It can only be set from ‘Directory’ sections in either httpd.conf or within vhost containers. In reply to: Vertical group menu in WP 3.0@mercime yes I was aware it had been updated as I downloaded and ran it quickly, the issue is not so much that it has been updated but that it’s technically a styling variant rather than a theme and uses all of bp-default structure along with bp-default default.css and as such adopts the bp-default tabs links (As default does it breaks if one has too many extensions./ plugins adding to these links).
So one would need to get down and dirty with those nav styles to effect a vertical approach, but that may well involve markup refactoring – hopefully it wouldn’t but I haven’t checked the markup with a view to that, but might if I get a moment.
In reply to: Forum Reply DisconnectedIf there a ticket for this serious usability issue? There should be.
Don’t know about any tickets but this sort of issue – an issue imho that is of a hugely serious nature, striking at the heart of the whole user experience, users == the people this is built for ! – is what I was hoping would be brought and discussed in the thread I started on usability issues partly started as a balance for the thread on the BP API, two threads that could run side by side as it felt to me at the time that this project was simply too weighted towards the API and the programmer with too little input from architect designers, usability experts and as such somewhat unbalanced.
I would like and expect when that word ‘Community’ is bandied about to see some form of dialogue between core developers and the wider community base of users and developers, sadly I don’t see that apart from mentions of dev ‘chats’ from time to time.
Personally – although I will do so – I don’t think hacking files around or having to develop a plugin every time an issue is raised a particularly strong way of developing an application, simply feeling as though one is shoring up the core with an ever increasing mountain of additional code to support.
In reply to: Vertical group menu in WP 3.0Sadly all that doesn’t leave a lot of options.
The vertical menu as was seen in pre 1.2 could still be done but as far as I’m aware no one has thought to code a layout in that style.
This leaves only the option of attempting a restyle yourself or perhaps badgering the author of that Nicey theme into coding a variation for release.
Certainly in many respects the choice of vertical menu is actually the better one than horizontal tabs given that the quantity of links is an unknown variable and that horizontal tabs tend to have a finite number that can be displayed before a layout starts to break.
