In reply to: BuddyPress ruined my site
BP doesn’t have forums, forums are integrated into BP only if you install and run the bbPress plugin and then activate it for BP.
Something else is causing your issues, especially if you have deativated BP as it now no longer can direct things anywhere.
However your about page does direct to a page about the site not ‘some’ forum so not sure what your seeing there.
I note that your permalinks are set to default, BP requires that anything other than default is selected i.e NOT ?p=
Unless there is a very good reason there’s no point to not using pretty permalinks, human readable links and this is likely part of the issue.
Also deactivate any other plugins running to test further.
In reply to: Hiding members header on certain pagesOn any particular condition other than just messages? If you want to simply remove the item-header you have two choices really, query the page for the component and action being viewed and wrap a conditional around the item-header or using the template hierarchy create a index-messages.php file in your theme adding it into file structure as outlined in the codex guides ‘buddypress/single/members/’ now you can modify this template and remove elements just for that one component view.
In reply to: Beginner’s ProblemAnd just to add – if it was/is template pack plugin you were/are using could you give us a clue as to how you came to think it was needed i.e what led you to believe that you had to install it so we can see if there’s anything we can do to remove any misleading guides.
In reply to: Buddypress Invitations PHP/SQL Error? Increase the max execution time for scripts, it’s a PHP ini setting, although why it’s struggling with 20 sends is another matter that will be done to your server or plugins.
In reply to: nginx vs apache installs with buddypress>cool he will probs read this when hes online,
She’ll be happy to grant contributor access to the codex as will I as Codex leads, although all Mods should be able to(not 100% sure of that though)Specific and detailed server configs does start to veer of topic for the BuddyPress Codex somewhat ( WP Codex probably has more extensive detail on WP and server setup as it’s WP really that we’re installing and running on the server), although we wouldn’t say don’t write up something along those lines.
We also would be happy for any other guides / write ups that you might like to suggest and tackle – the codex is only as good as it’s contributions from the community 🙂
In reply to: Members Directory Page Broken After Update@jturet @augustomurriit We have a patch up on the ticket and we’ll be running tests on it a bit later to verify it corrects the issue.
In reply to: Members Directory Page Broken After UpdateRevising last comment, content isn’t displayed as reported, I had a members page located under the BP set members page which produced my false/positive members loop.
In reply to: Members Directory Page Broken After UpdateHmm even though the page isn’t being nested under the parent I still have a correctly displaying members loop.
Is it possible for you to test and confirm how things behave under a WP theme – if you’re using a custom theme – just in case a custom theme is adding to the issue.
In reply to: Members Directory Page Broken After UpdateI can confirm that the url path is stripped out but the actual members page should still work either directly navigated to or clicking the page link as nested under a parent dropdown which should result in page being found but at it’s root position my-site.com/members/
Can we confirm that the page does still exist and is viewable, in the meantime I’ll open a trac ticket to log the page hierarchical issue.
This issue is ticketed for looking into:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/6475#ticketIn reply to: Activity Loop Now EmptyWhy from ‘bp-themes/bp-default/’ copy templates for theme compatibility from ‘bp-templates/bp-legacy/’ guides are in the codex for further reference.
In reply to: Remove render-blocking JavaScript@henrywright such is the power to cow people. The internet has become frigging amazing at demonstrating just how totalitarianism can flourish. We should not allow one company to wield this sort of power, but we do and we will be enslaved to it, thus the open did die due to absolute lust for power and domination – shame! </soapbox>
In reply to: Remove render-blocking JavaScriptDon’t take these sorts of tools to literally they suggest things while not strictly being able to tell why something was done or if it really is an issue. Automated tools have always been somewhat of a bane.
Here we have a case where it says “blocking” while not actually saying those scripts are actually blocking, we always did load scripts in the head, if they can be loaded towards the end of the document great but not all can.
Also consider just what savings you may make in terms of load time, is it a concern?
In reply to: Nothing works after update to 2.2.3.1Members lists are showing for me!
In reply to: I NEED HELP! REGISTRATION PAGE NOT WORKINGFirstly please don’t type subject lines in all caps, it’s considered rude and to be shouting, it will not get you any of a faster response only remarks like I’m making 😉
Secondly why link us to your site asking questions about registration when all of your site links re-direct to an off site frame 404 not found page?
Registration in BP is a simple process with few fields to complete uploading files not one of them, so have you extended your registration process with custom functionality, if so explain that in detail.
When setting up a new WP/BP site one should check the basics work such as registration before taking the site any further in development terms, if not sure whether your theme could be a factor in issues you should test that the basics work using a standard WP bundled theme i.e twenty fifteen.
So you need to confirm some simple test, and if issue persists detail your registration process steps and any customizations you have in place if people are to be able to help at all.
In reply to: Join button for non-membersYes you need to be registered before you can join groups, joining a group means needing to add the person as a member ID which they can only have if a WP registered user.
There are plugins though that can do things like auto join groups on registration but to a pre-selected set of groups, if you wanted the user to be able to pre-select a group at registration you would need to write a small function to store a choice as user_meta or similar and recall that when the user activated their account.
On a side note if you’re working up a child theme based on twentyfifteen it would be a good idea to be running a copy of BP trunk as we will introduce a new series of stylesheets for the WP Twenty* themes which may affect what your styling.
You need to do some basic research on things like ‘Backing Up’, there are many approaches and solutions out there, from VaultPress service, to backup plugins, to your webhost provided services or cpanel/plesk type site/user account backups.
The same advice applies for deactivating plugins when you can’t access the admin, rename the plugin directories. That media plugin must have downloaded and installed otherwise it wouldn’t have thrown the error. Deactivate all plugins, update WP and establish that works as expected then re-activate or download a new copy of BP, as you’re so far behind in BP versions you will need to perform stepped upgrades to get to the latest stable version. Check the BP Codex for advice on this aspect.
Ah right this is why those version requirements are listed and need to be paid attention to.
Regardless of the plugin issue, this forums advice must start and finish on updating WordPress then BuddyPress it is really inadvisable to run with versions that are this outdated, WP had a major security update around the 4.0 point.
Closing post as a duplicate of:
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/cant-access-my-dashboard-ot-site-after-installing-mediapress-master-plugin-2/Please don’t double post it doesn’t get any quicker attention, nor does writing titles in all caps (considered as ‘shouting’) 🙂
You will need to rename that plugins directory name using whatever access you have to server files i.e ftp, cpanel etc, that will act to deactivate the plugin and should restore access.
On a more important note you quote two versions that are very outdated for WP and BP you must upgrade both of these as a matter of urgency as later versions have stability and security fixes.
In reply to: SidebarsCheck the Codex documentation, which will guide you on creating a custom buddypress.php page to mirror your themes page.php and in which you could then remove the sidebar from markup.
In reply to: Does BuddyPress works?‘scam’ is a rather rude word.
I suggest that you go and read the Codex, all sections to do with features and getting started then you will be able to ask better informed questions.
And yes ‘it’ does work!
In reply to: Does buddypress require a theme to work?Try setting up a proper vhost container and adding a dev domain to your hosts file, the Apache manual and xammp should guide you on this.
In reply to: Does buddypress require a theme to work? Are you logged in when you try and register?
In reply to: how to define 3rd avatar sizeYou can pass an array of sizes as you show, so you state the type you want i.e ‘full’ but ensure that the original or full default size is much larger than you need and then size it down per avatar display – does mean you need to look at all calls to display avatars probably to ensure any that attempt to display the default are managed for size.
In reply to: FATAL ERROR: BuddyPress 2.2.3 – Security ReleaseThe issue is known and being looked into and a correction doubtless will be pushed out very soon, for the moment as John James says roll back to previous version if you have encountered this issue:
Edit// Remove link to 2.2.2.1 zip should have been 2.2.3 ~hnlaEdit// Issue is resolved – please see comment below for dealing with dashboard access issues.
