In reply to: Buddypress on WordPress vs WordPress MU
WordPress has this built in – https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/is_user_logged_in
In reply to: BuddyPress Bar on external pagesI think it’s because google’s inserts put in their own version of jquery.
In reply to: BuddyPress Bar on external pagesEveryone’s happy now

And you can add in ‘Having ANYTHING Google in your WP footer will cause this to go pear-shaped.’ I had a Google ad and, until I removed it, got a white screen of death.
In reply to: BuddyPress Bar on external pagesOkay, that was exactly it. I moved the subdomains around (and threw up some htaccess to fix old links) and it’s working. It’s worth the sacrifice!
I’m allergic to iframes, but thank you for the offer!
In reply to: BuddyPress Bar on external pagesAnd, of course, I’m using subdomains for them. *sigh* They’ve been around for so long, I don’t really want to change them from that, either!
In reply to: BuddyPress SecurityFYI, I’m running the following plugins and they seem to be stopping/slowing spammers:
Bad Behavior
WPMU-Block-Spam-By-MathAlso I use this in my .htaccess http://wpmututorials.com/how-to/spam-blogs-and-buddypress/
In reply to: Avatar Upload Issues@mike2ike – Until they sort out why code is getting eaten, maybe post the code to http://buddypress.pastebin.com/ ?
In reply to: Hosting requirements for BuddypressIn part that depends on how big a BP install you’re going to have. I would read this: http://wpmu.org/dedicated-or-shared-hosting-for-wordpress-mu/
Basically you’d look at it the same way you’d look at a WPMU site. How much traffic, how many users, how many groups and forums etc etc.
In reply to: BuddyPress SecurityThe problem with Ban Hammer is I never bothered to plug into the WPMU register screen, let alone the BP one

What error/warning messages are you getting? Ban Hammer SHOULD clean itself up when it gets deactivated.
In reply to: BuddyPress and WordPress 3.0Yeah, but poor @Chad Holden isn’t so lucky
In reply to: Adding comment counts to BuddyBarAH! Got it http://buddypress.pastebin.com/LrQuRa9T
This will show you the number of pending (NOT SPAM) comments next to the menu for ‘Manage Comments (#)’. Whew. I’m going to fiddle and see if I can make something like the notifications alert show up. But this is mostly what I wanted
In reply to: Adding comment counts to BuddyBarSince the code … code here is weird right now: http://buddypress.pastebin.com/xZuQapR1
Line 28 is the one I’m 99% sure is wrong.
In reply to: BuddyPress and WordPress 3.0*ponder* It doesn’t make any sense to me, except maybe it’s PHP setup. Can you add an image to a regular blog post outside of BP?
In reply to: BuddyPress SecurityFYI, Ban Hammer doesn’t work on WPMU 3.0 right now which … I don’t plan on fixing, since WPMU has a built-in ban filter. The problem is that BuddyPress is ignoring the built-in Ban Filter of WPMU. I’ve never tested it on WPMU 2.9.x
Ban Hammer works fine on a single install of WP 3.0, though.
See https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2277 for the Banned domains filtering issue with BuddyPress
In reply to: Avatar Upload IssueI added this info to https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2206
In reply to: Avatar Upload IssuesMike, I get that same error if I try to use a square image or one that’s 150px or smaller.
That is, if I try and use an image that’s 280px x 280px, it fails. But 280px x 240px is fine. And anything with a side less than 150px fails outright.
Try that.
There is almost no reason to use an external bbPress; Groups (and their forums) are very powerful and can be skinned to match your requirements. The upcoming design of THIS website should open some people’s eyes.
I tend to agree except that I want a way to have an ‘open’ forum as well as group forums
You know? A way for people to put up support questions without having to join a group. Unless there’s a way to make a group that anyone can post in, member or not, it’s a bit of a sticking point.
In reply to: BuddyPress and WordPress 3.0What version of PHP? (I’m at the ‘let’s see what’s different between you and me!’ stage of things)
ETA: Are the permissions on your blogs.dir correct? I had to make the avatar folder and set permissions on that directly
In reply to: BuddyPress and WordPress 3.0What size image are you uploading? I have this weird thing where if I upload a square image, and it’s less than 150 px on any side, it gets all stupid and weird on me.
Also which WP 3.0 are you running? I have last night’s nightly and it’s working fine when I tried to use an image that was 284px by 240px and cropped it down.
The other thought is you may not have the image processing apps on your server (I don’t know if they use GD Image or whatever…)
In reply to: BuddyPress and WordPress 3.0Try this: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2317
In reply to: Buddypress and WordPress 3.0 BetaI too am running WP3 B1 with BP 123 and no issues at all. Avatar issues were solved by this change https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2317 (and by only uploading images that AREN’T square and are larger than 150px on their shortest side … Go figure)
In reply to: "Auto Group Join" plugin addedFYI, for WP 3.0 you have to change wpmu-admin.php to ms-admin.php, but it seems to work.
Alas, it’s not quite what I wanted, but it IS really cool and I may use it later on.
In reply to: Avatar Upload IssueOooh. Did you read where I said ‘squared’? If I upload 200px by 230px it works fine.
I’m not sure what fluffy gay hell that was born from, but I want to kill it with fire.
In reply to: Can't find my register pageOn WP 3.0 MultiSite, it’s under Super Admin -> Options, scroll down to Registration Settings
Works fine.
