Thanks DJPaul for creating the ticket.

Similar to activity feed’s excerpt not working under i18n environment, messages show full content rather than excerpt when viewed by list. When I receive English messages on buddypress.org, excerpt is displayed, but on my Japanese install, full message is displayed.

So far 1.1 free theme is only one which you can download directly from this site, other than original buddypress theme.

There’re paid themes, but I believe they aren’t updated to 1.1

If we had it, Andy’s external blog plugin could be written for profiles, too. I think it’s a simple, but excellent plugin most of bp users wanted for long time. But we’d like to see it available for profiles.

Since you aren’t using default theme, you probably didn’t configure your theme correctly that CSS is not being loaded. Read documents and forums posts about new theme architectures.

I’d say YES. You should at least know basic of wpmu before using buddypress.

BuddyPress should offer options to set group url (slug) to be %postname% or %post_id%. Otherwise they should add a new text field to edit group slug upon creation of groups.

If you have technical skills to submit patches on these, please do so. I may be able to help you find bits of code, but I can’t write anything from scratch.

I’m using feedwordpress, but this requires users to create blogs.

What I’m looking for is external blogs plugin which Andy wrote for groups. That is exactly what I want, and suppose what most of us on this discussion is looking for.

There are already good themes for buddypress. I guess you haven’t searched enough. Core teams should focus on development, not themes. Since 1.1 theme design got much easier than before, so any wordpress theme designers can design.

WordPress and therefore BuddyPress lack a lot of standard i18n features as core developers are mainly using English than other languages. They still haven’t figured out problems we have when we use our own languages within WordPress/BuddyPress.

Anyway, for the problem, there’s similar ticket on trac that names containing dots or dash don’t work on 1.1 environment. It may be related to this ticket.

This hack in the core would probably make buddypress global.
