I’ll be selling my bp themes on bpninja.com
(I know, this is personal commercializing, but it answers the question.
Lol, it turned ` into code tags.
In reply to: Sitewide searchOne search bar to rule them all?

Would like seeing this too, the dropdown menu looks unprofessional and is hard to design.
In reply to: GPL Question re upcoming plugin releaseLots of different opinions about this, but lets face it, will wordpress sue you if you don’t use GPL license on your plugin/theme? Anyway, I haven’t found any legal evidence that your forced to use GPL on your plugin/theme, just speculations and opinions.
Vladimir Prelovac gave solutions of this problem on his blog a while back.
The solution exists and is technical in nature. For plugins you can develop your whole code as a library under your own licensing model. Then you would have the wordpress plugin which will call functions from your library. The plugin itself becomes GPL but the library not and you are free to slap any kind of license and restriction to it.
For themes it is a bit of a different story. Having read the GPL FAQ carefully this is my interpretation. First solution: You do not need to call any WordPress functions in your theme, but you can connect to the database directly and get the information you need. This method is possible but not elegant at all.
Second solution is to have your theme in external php files and one WordPress index.php. This file will use WordPress functions and only include() your files as neccessary. Again index.php would fall under GPL, all other files won’t.
In reply to: First experiments and I already need help 🙁Set up a test environment on your local pc and create your website, plain php and theme changes can be copied easily to a new place (another server for example), just db stuff needs to be implemented later, make sure to test this on your local pc before going to your live site.
When your sure the site is running correctly on your local pc and you found out a way to copy the db stuff to your fresh installation on your local pc, make a new clean install with the same settings on your live site, remember to notice members on this before doing the upgrade. Put your site behind a htacces maintenance referral, excluding your own ip, so you can still edit and test the site, but others get to see the maintenance page. If everything goes right, you’ll have your new site running in no time.
MAKE SURE TO BACKUP THE WHOLE OLD SITE BEFORE SWITCHING TO YOUR NEW ONE!
@ David: Yes there’s a plugin for wordpress that allows you to put it in maintenance mode as well, but then there would have to be a wp installed already, the above solution just refers to a html page through htaccess.
This is a third party theme, so it can’t be tagged with “not resolved”.
From what version did you upgrade? And did you make a backup for updating?
In reply to: Forums link to nowhereIt should hide itself, if it doesn’t, just make a child theme and edit the menu.
In reply to: Friends limitWow, you limit your friends in real life to a certain number too?
Anyway, why not just build in a check at the befriending buttons, that when a certain number is reached, the button doesn’t show up?
Offcourse you’ll have to build in a check at the befriending function itself, but this fix will work for any non-coder.
In reply to: First experiments and I already need help 🙁Put your site in maintenance and do a clean install, then copy your data/theme?
If you try to copy a wpmu install with buddypress, you’ll run into a lot of problems, its ten times easier to just do a clean install.
In reply to: New plugin: Include Non-Member CommentsIf people want to comment, let them register is my opinion.
Doesn’t have to be in the core, just use this plugin.
In reply to: BP 1.2 / bpPicture Album PluginI believe they just use a seperate bbpress install here.
In reply to: Convert a WordPress Theme to a BuddyPress ThemeWoops, wasn’t reading correctly. Well work the other way around then.

Add the files that your theme doesn’t have and start using bp functions.
In reply to: Convert a WordPress Theme to a BuddyPress Themehttp://www.bp-tricks.com/design/member-blog-themes-to-match-your-buddypress-theme/
This is pretty old, since 1.2 doesn’t have wire anymore, but it’s almost the same.
In reply to: Multiblogs using one buddypress database? If you put up the multiblog setup correctly then there should be no problem with double data. I have a test network running with 3 blogs, the main having buddypress installed and even a single bbpress install.
In reply to: i18n for BuddyPressOnce 1.2 is released I’ll make a Dutch tranlation.
In reply to: Buddypress IntegrationTake a look at this.
I really don’t recommend building in a php framework into a existing cms, it could cause a lot of issues.
In reply to: Index page modification????1. A buddypress theme isn’t so different from a standard wordpress theme, it just has a few extras.
2. Not sure what you mean by this, you have to install bp on wpmu, you can’t install them seperately. Bp is a plugin for wpmu.
3. Once installed bp correctly on wpmu or just wp, you get profiles, activities, groups etc.
Do you really understand what wpmu is? Basically its standard wordpress, but allows you or your users to make multiple blogs on one wordpress install. Buddypress allows you to turn your main blog into a social community, by adding profile and frieding options and the earlier named options.
Don’t use the bbpress inside buddypress and install bbpress stand-alone, so install it seperate and make it deep integration.
In reply to: How To Set Blog For Any User To PostAdd the function “add_user_to_blog( $blog_id, $user_id, $role )” to the registration.
In reply to: Profile Sidebars – UrgentYou mean you want to enable users to add widgets to their own profiles?
Also, with BPDEV do you mean “bp-dev.org“?
In reply to: AdvertisementThat’s why you could try one of the wordpress plugins, some of them make it really easy to add all kinds of advertisements to your wordpress set-up. The only problems will be; version of wordpress (buddypress 1.1.3 only works on 2.8.x), buddypress itself and theming.
Just need to do some trial and error with some of the plugins.
Try this: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/advertising-manager/
In reply to: AdvertisementNo plugins for buddypress specifically yet, though you can try one of the wordpress advert plugins. Or don’t use a plugin at all and just code it directly into your buddypress template.
In reply to: Google Blog Search ?Isn’t it just the same as any of google’s crawlers? This just specifies on searching blogs for a feed and taking the news from that feed.
You can make them take notice of your blog.
In reply to: admin account + securityYou have to set a person to “admin” state in the backend by name, if you change the name, wpmu won’t recognize it as admin anymore.
