Peter, many thanks, I got my courage up and edited the
“ed” (list) elements and it worked.

Note that the first

ed element in the default header has to remain attached to the second
ed one, so that the activity/blog toggle in the appearances/themes/theme options still works properly.

At least I think this is required.
