OK. I am working again, now on BP 1.2.5.2. The issue was that I missed this IMPORTANT bit about the WP 3.0 upgrade for WPMU users …

Move /wp-includes/ms-files.php to /wp-content/

I assume that issue will be automated in future WP releases.
