In reply to: All Bases Covered Method Of Backing Up BP?
use phpmyadmin to export the database stuff and ftp to backup a copy of your installation to your local disk.
In reply to: Group Types & RolesShould be quite easy to do. When someone creates a group you give them the choice of what kind of group it should be using the groups api. This you attach to the group as groupmeta. Once that is done you can enable functionality based on that meta data. Have a look at the group api docs in the codex
The way I did it was a bit different and I never got round to making a plugin out of it. It was for a personal site, which i haven’t got to for the last 4 months or so. Too much client work…
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and DiscussionI’d do the rewrite no problem. I’d need access to the code though. I’m under the impression that your database model has changed quite a bit and I can’t test, for example, if a whole gallery shows up in a blog post if I don’t know how to get the info from the db.
It’s fine if you don’t want me playing around with your code before it’s properly released, but that’d mean I’d have to wait until after 0.1.7.
Cheers,
Boris
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and DiscussionLooks pretty slick, mate! As for your earlier question, I’m pretty busy with client work, but am more than happy to contribute to the project.
In reply to: A small feature for 1.3Well, if WP 3.0 supports it then BP will support it, since it runs on top of WP. I think it’s gonna be a theme thing, much like the widgets. If the theme designer adds support for it, then your users will be able to use it. In a MU setting this just makes sense, cause they have no access to theme code, so can’t build their own custom navigation.
In reply to: BP Album+ || New Features Requests and DiscussionSWFUpload would be very nice! Nobody wants to sit in front of a laptop for an hour just uploading one image after another. And rather than restricting the amount of images a user can upload, it’d be better imho that the user has an upload limit based on file size, much like the WPMU upload limit for blogs.
Basic image editing like automatic rotating and import of meta data would be nice too. If meta data are present you could populate the description automatically for example. Also, rather than keeping the image at the original size, I’d restrict that to something like 800×800, which is perfect for the web.
In reply to: how can i get: create a blog – open by defaultthis is done via javascript, so removing the bit that’s responsible for that will do the trick. take a look at the classes or id of the checkbox and then look for it in your theme’s js file. removing the class or id references from the checkbox will work as well, but your visitors would still have to load that bit of javascript, which isn’t neccessary. Then, obviously you’d want to get rid of the checkbox completely.
In reply to: Travel-Junkie.comCheers, mate! yup, custom made. all done by myself. the login page has also been styled to match the look and feel of the site as has the backend to some extend actually. you know, custom footer, custom logo when you log in, that kinda stuff.
In reply to: BP Album vs BP Galleryhere’s my 2 cent! i’m still undecided which gallery i’m going for. i’m even considering (read: have started) porting nextgen gallery over. i’ve also paid a subscription fee to brajesh to support him and to get a look at the code. at the moment i’m also doing some work on bp album. if the two developers want to incorporate the stuff i code is another matter.
bp gallery definately has won featurewise atm. plus there’s loads of ajax goodness going on. bp album on the other hand has two developers already, so it might grow quickly and overtake bp gallery at some point. saying that, brajesh might have other people working on bp gallery as well. who knows…
The one big thing bp album is lacking at the moment are multiple galleries. that’s like a showstopper right there, but i’m pretty certain they’ll be implemented. one thing i don’t like about bp gallery is it’s own implementation of error messages. they look and feel different than the bp ones, which makes for an inconsistent user experience. that’s just a minor point though and should be easy to fix.
the question shouldn’t be what plugin is better, but when am i gonna use what plugin. if you only need image galleries, then you won’t need the audio or video galleries bp gallery offers. Most sites wouldn’t want their users to upload videos anyways. takes up too much space and bandwidth. the way to handle that would be oembed galleries, now that’d be clever. or give site admins a choice.
we all got to make a living, so if brajesh wants to charge 30 bucks, then good for him. still means his code is gpl and once i have it i can do anything i want with it *evilsupervillainlaugh*. anyways, nuff said. getting tired from all this typing…
In reply to: BP Album+ : my new plugin for picturesoh, but before you do anything i’ve had a look at the code and noticed that you’re using single options. Makes more sense to put all of the options in one array and save that.
if you want to i can send you the files where I changed that. you’d still have to remove the constant references, though
In reply to: BP Album+ : my new plugin for pictureshmm, when you guys switched the plugin over from using constants to database options, you should’ve changed all the references in your code from the constants to the new options. now it’s throwing errors all over the place…
In reply to: Travel-Junkie.comHmm, didn’t even think of that
Cheers, mate!IE6 is not important to me, but I guess I better have a look at IE7.
@rossagrant, I’ve integrated the default topic stuff from peteranselmo (cheers, mate!) into the script, so you can download it again…
In reply to: Invite Friends From ProfileI was thinking of adapting the wordpress plugin from the openinviter.com guys to work with BP. It would be from a profile page. To me that just seems like the right place to be. I’m inviting people to the network after all and not to a group.
I’m pretty sure that it could be done, but it’s not as easy as the script and I really don’t have any time, so I guess you’ll have to do it manually or wait for the admins to upload one…
In reply to: Travel-Junkie.comfinni3, competition is such a hard word
Travel-Junkie is only a small site, kind of my pet project, if you so want…Anyways, what’s the site then I am competing against? Might as well know what mastermind I’m up against
In reply to: Creating a link for all the blogswell, that would be your main link, like http://your-site.com. or, if you set the option to show the activity on the frontpage, then you need to create a page, call it ‘blog’ for example, and set it to show your posts. That should be on nthe reading settings in the backend i think.
In reply to: bunch of ideas….as has been said to you many times before. if you don’t want to use forums, then turn them off. and please don’t spam the forums every chance you get with your comments about forums and bbpress. by now we’re all well aware of your opinion. cheers!
In reply to: Travel-Junkie.comah ok, strange. the only thing i did was install the forums, but the profile links shouldn’t be affected by that. never had any problems on my local installation to be forwarded to the profile.
In reply to: Travel-Junkie.comoh, yeah, forgot to set up the forums… d’oh!
what do you mean with the location maps, mate?
you can download it at http://travel-junkie.com/sql.txt
rename the file to sql.php and open the file up in your favorite text editor. close to the top you’ll see an array $groups. add or modify that array, then upload the script to your server root. navigate to http://your-site.com/sql.php, fill in the data and hit enter.
please note that on my local server the script could only handle about 150 groups at a time, before the script timed out…
i’ve coded a script that lets me create maybe 150 groups at a time. it’ll be a hell of a time faster than doing it manually, but it’ll still take 10 minutes or so. all that is neeed is an array containing the group name and the group description and you’re set to go. i even made an interface….
In reply to: New sherrif in town – Congrats r-a-y!Nice one, mate! Might be time to put a gravatar to the name, eh
In reply to: Custom Registration ComponentsYou might not even have to do that. There’s probably loads of hooks around, so all you need to do is add some functions to your child themes functions.php file, that add stuff to the appropriate hook. Keeping your theme up-to-date will be even easier that way, if a tiny bit more complicated…
In reply to: How do users make blog posts?Your users have to go to the WP backend of their blog and write a post same as you would.
