In reply to: It just wont install!!!!!
What kind of server do you use ? Have you enough php memory on it ?
In some situations, WP works correctly but crashes as soon as you attempt to install BP, whitch would became too big for your server allowed ressources.please post questions one by one.
For the question about template, it seems there is something wrong from within it. As you know also, you paid a $60 licence to use the Huddle themeforest theme. This price includes support and you have to ask them first for disfunction and updates, not here.
FYI, the last update of the theme is 21 August 12. Did you use this update ?
Same question to @travcentralenFor the second question about retrieving profile fields automatic links, i don’t know, but please search a bit on this forum. I saw a similar one in the past 3 days….
In reply to: How to display 5 topics per page – forums-loop.phpHi,
read here, and use “per page” option
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-forum-topics-loop/Is your new DB the same version as your backup ?
If reinstalled linux, you probably also reinstalled php and perhaps a new apache engine too ?
First thing to do in such a brand new server reinstall is to test the server itself .Did you ?
In reply to: Creating links in my sidebarDo you know this plugin ? https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddybar-widget/
Maybe for inspiration at least…
In reply to: Creating links in my sidebarOK i see what you mean.
Adminbar menus are Core stuff, so it’s a bit tricky (and not recommend) to work on directly.
Can you list the items you want in your sidebar ? Would be easier to have them for help concretly.Have a glance here:
http://tinyurl.com/pedoazzIn reply to: Creating links in my sidebarHi @pjtna,
There are many ways to accomplish what you want, depending essentially of your php/html knowledge.
First thing you have to do anyway is to create a child theme.Second, IMO, the easiest would be to create a widget with help of the TextWidget delivered with WP and phpexec plugin. This plugin allows to insert php, css and HTML into the TextWidget. No need then to hack into the sidebar file.
Note: you can search on this forum with Google. Use `buddypress.org: your search terms`
This would bring you many answers.
And apologize if I push an opened door
In reply to: Changing Group tab display defaultsIf you use BP 1.6.x you can find here some new improvements
https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/changing-internal-configuration-settings/Why do you want to remove html code when you don’t know what genrate it ?

That said, the profile textarea’s content is in the DB (xprofile tab from memory)
But you have to find what plugin genrates the double insertion. The unique solution is to proceed like i explained previously.First activate the bp-default theme with no plugins except BP and create a new profile field for testing.
If the field shows correctly, you have to update the Huddle theme (you can use Template Pack plugin to do this easily).
If the problem remains, you have to reactive one by one your plugins.Hello,
there is probably an error in the WP’s spanish translation. Or you use a plugin witch have an old version of tyniMCE.Are your language settings correct ? View in wp-content and in the dashboard.
Are your plugins compatible with WP 3.4.1 and BP 1.5/1.6 ?
Debug by deactivating them exept BP and use bp-default theme during the tests.
If you find nothing, you have to search in plugins languages .po file with a text editor like notepad+ and track all special caracters and all html tags you will find in it. Sometimes > or < are forgotten by translators…
Begin pehaps by Achievements as you mentionned it in relation with profiles…You can also try to reactivate the old BP admin bar to see if that you have the same error.
Put this in a bp-custom.php file into your plugins folder:
`add_filter( ‘bp_use_wp_admin_bar’, ‘__return_false’ );`Hi @travcentralen,
you source code contains some tags that should not be there. A doubled href in this case:
`<a href="http://www.travcentralen.se/medlemmar/?s=1985″; rel=”nofollow”>1985
`
instead of
`http://www.travcentralen.se/medlemmar/?s=1985; rel=”nofollow”>1985
`
EDIT: Sorry for the code, but buddypress is stripping it despite backsticks.
Did you insert your datas with HTML code ? Or do you use an old pulgin ?
Deactivate all your plugins except buddypress.
Then test with bp-degfault and see if the problem remains.
Than reactivate your plugins one by one to find the culprit.Hi,
i had a similar problem on a multisite install: after update from 1.5.6 to 1.6, no access to profiles, topics and some plugins. All links going nowhere else as my homepage
I searched in the recent tickets and found a solution here: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4415
By commenting the (very old) NOBLOGREDIRECT line in wp-config, my url’s where back
On a single install, it maybe possible to add this filter
`add_filter( ‘bp_do_redirect_canonical’, ‘__return_false’ );`These solution was already given by @boonebgorges on this forum a few days back i guess
In reply to: Remove “Notify Me Of New Comments by Email”Also Group Email Subscription…
In reply to: Group page does not showI received a 500 error page while attempting to access the forum page… This means there is also a problem outside your group page and/or a server misconfiguration.
What type of server do you use ? Shared or VPN or… ?
What are your permalinks settings ?
What kind of htaccess do you use ?To handle what Paul said, try to reload all BP files via FTP and see if things changed. If not, you have to debug trought your plugins and check above mentionned points.
In reply to: Spamming Issues HELP!Hello,
registration process has nothing to do with BP, it’s WP stuff. For some technical answers to your question, be inspired by reading here:
http://www.esecurityplanet.com/open-source-security/top-5-wordpress-vulnerabilities-and-how-to-fix-them.htmlTo avoid robot resgistration, there is nothing definitve to do at this time. But to get sure you don’t get a robot in your user list, you can add a mandatory field to your registration via custom profile fields.
For example, “city”. Because this field is custom, no robot will fill it correctly. And most will not fill it at all. Each subscription with “doe” as city name or empty city field can be banned and/or erased from your DB. This will calm down spam activities for a while. The price of this is a constant admin work. But consider that a daily managed site is lesser spammed than a site with randomised webmastering each 31th february… And a site with 50 000 unique visitors will be more attacked that a 70 hits/day site. Just the price of glory, nothing to do with buddypress. [exit]
In reply to: Where are the translators ?Pot file is not the problem
Pot files are automaticaly created on trunk each time a file is updated. Creating pot file on Glotpress is not a problem, because Glotpress imports this file from bp Trac.The “problem” is writing a po file (not pot, but po). Do we write it on Glotpress or do we write it at home on poEdit for example and push it to i18n Trac or do we use both ?
In my mind this doesn’t matter as long as an updated mo file is avaible somewhere. The unique question is, where is somewhere ? Of course it must be a place knowed by BP users. The existing i18n is a good place to be. Must only be more visible on buddypress.org
The other problem are the translators themselves. Polyglot discussion list is essentially devoted to wordpress, and as you know, BP user are constantly busy (and honnestly not so numerous as WP users), so its a bit difficult to built translators teams or find a goodwill in (ie.) Farsi or (ie.) Croatian language…
And as you know also, working a long time without feedback is demotivative, frustrating and leads to abandon.
@djpaul FYI i answered here: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4265
In reply to: Where are the translators ?http://i18n.trac.BuddyPress.org/ was created a long time ago – BP 1.1 i guess – for translations. This was announced on this forum by Andy.
But you’re right @djpaul, the url was never populated or mentionned since, except perhaps on Codex (de profondis). Same thing for Glotpress. I worked whith it at the beginning, but was rapidly tired by copy/pasting and some bugs.
Glotpress could be usefull in a collaborative perspective, not for a one man work. It’s faster to translate offline with poEdit. Without saying that i can rapidly jump to my archives, control the final output and so on. My browser is not a office, despite look alike sometimes.
In my point of view, the above url is the best repository for mo files, with sorted versions and fast zipped download.FYI, the i18n exist also for wordpress https://i18n.trac.wordpress.org/browser and is really used by many translators.
I also don’t know how things proceed. I translate BP in french since 2008/12 without any instruction,, except the invite to use the i18n trac for better translation access.
That said, does BP already need translation ? The pot file is the only thing you need to proceed. Because the software is very customisable, a standard translation is not very usefull, because 3/4 of the words can be customized too, to fit a unique BP project.
In reply to: Group Forums Ignore html formattingHello,
you’re not wrong. Forum post don’t display html.
You have to handle this problem similar to WP comments or here by using backsticks, pre or code tag if you need code in your posts.
Anyway, with approximative html or php output….
You can also remove some filters by puting the instruction in your child theme functions.php
(ieremove_filter( 'bp_get_the_topic_post_content', 'bp_forums_filter_kses', 1 );)
The list of filters used in Forums are in bp-forums/bp-forums-filters.phpIn reply to: Buddypress plugin for uploading videosHi Venkatesh,
most of buddypress content is generated by wordpress. So the Media settings can give you what you need.
That said, where do you want a video upload possibility ? And what king of videos ? Yours orfrom users, or some videotube service ?In reply to: Keeping WordPress’ Admin BarHello,
for 1.5.x versions of BP you can add this piece of code in your wp-config.php
`define( ‘BP_USE_WP_ADMIN_BAR’, true );`
or add these function to your theme functions.php file if the above doesn’t work.
`function remove_bp_adminbar(){
remove_action( ‘wp_footer’, ‘bp_core_admin_bar’, 8 );
remove_action( ‘admin_footer’, ‘bp_core_admin_bar’);
show_admin_bar(true);
}
add_action(‘after_setup_theme’,’remove_bp_adminbar’);
?>`or you may wait for BP 1.6 where BP’s adminbar will be integrated in WP’s one.
In reply to: [Resolved] Ago Ago?Hello,
old problem…
In bp-core/bp-core-functions.php:611
there is the “ago” filter…
`$ago_text = apply_filters( ‘bp_core_time_since_ago_text’, __( ‘%s ago’, ‘buddypress’ ) );`
Replace this to
`$ago_text = apply_filters( ‘bp_core_time_since_ago_text’, __( ‘%s’, ‘buddypress’ ) );`In reply to: [Resolved] A Way to Redirect Member Login Page?In reply to: Allow user to edit text widgetHi,
first, no matter WHERE the widget is, but only WHO can access to it (or not).
Did you find a plugin named capabilities manager (aka capsman) ?
Widget editing has nothing to do with BP, that’s implemented WP stuff and is manageable through WP admin.
I believe Editors have access to this.
So give a trusted member access to widget admin.
And perhaps give here more details about what you exactly want to do.In reply to: Allow user to edit text widgetHi,
please read the roles capabilities in wordpress
https://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities
If you need more precision work, try a role plugin like this one:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/user-role-editor/Viens faire un tour sur http://bp-fr.net.
