JJJ, your tip is not working for now.
I changed the textdomain in my comp but didn’t work.
I just added the component name into my .po file. and this is working without touching the bp-activity-templatetags file.
But this is not a good solution.
In reply to: What do your spam signups look like?I have had the same issues as you all these summer.
Since approx. 2 mounth i have nomore fake user or fake blog. And no spam too !
I erased daily and manually all spammer reference in my DB. Mail adrress, blog content, names and so on… An endless job with no success at least. And i don’t use Askimet. I can’t explain why (or only in french), but i don’t.
I’ve installed wp-spamfree (who blocked 45 spam comments since i installed it in july), invisble-defender (who blocked 76 spammer in the same period) This is really less
I use also wp-ban, here i have given some ip ban’s instructions, banned some referrers like these:
and some wildcarded user agents like zhanglingjuan*
in my htaccess i have this, wich is very powerfull(i think it is this who reduced mostly my spammers)
Test it and see in your log file how many “libwww-perl” call you receive in a day and see what is in the url. You will stunning !
# Blocking access from libwww-perl, and blocking urls that include “=http:†to eliminate bot attacks
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} libwww [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ - [F,L]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} www-mechanize [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ - [F,L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(wp\-login\.php|\/wp\-admin\/) [NC]
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^(.*)=http [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ - [F,L]
# END ANTISPAMBLOG REGISTRATIONI tried your site with firefox and did’nt see any problem. Pagination works correctly for members and blogs page.
In Events i found this: Events Listing
Viewing event 1 to 0 (of 0 events)
And you have over 10 events listed. There is a count issue somewhere in this plugin.
In reply to: Saving translation gives errorsXevo, it is written: missing `msgstr[]’ and found 9 fatal errors
This means that you forgot to translate 9 strings ! The lines are indicated in the warning.
Sometimes strings have plural form and you did’nt see that beacause the poEdit window is too small by default on his bottom frame…
To be sure, open the po file in a text editor, it’s easier to read and to search the lines (poEdit did’nt search lines). When found the errors, do the correction and save. Open in poEdit and save also to generate a new mo file.

In reply to: Simple question on minutes ago?Try also here
bp-status-templatetags.php:38
In reply to: Simple question on minutes ago?A good tip to localize words or expression used in the output is to open the buddypress.pot file in the language folder with a text editor like Notepad++
Then a single text search finds you the searched word and also the file name AND the line where the word is.
Look in bp-status.php to change the HTML order of what you want
In reply to: New Plugin – BuddyPress Links – Beta Supportfrench version is now integrated in the plugin, so the above download link is closed.
In reply to: New Plugin – BuddyPress Links – Beta Supportyou can find the .pot file in my version
In reply to: New Plugin – BuddyPress Links – Beta Supportfrench version is avaible here
Some files have been modified to allow translation and the .pot file is also a bit modified (due to missing strings at this time) from the original file in 0.1.1
In reply to: New Plugin – BuddyPress Links – Beta SupportTranslation is actually not working with your locale function “bp_links_load_textdomain()” in bp-links.php line 138
Instead of the function, a simple if statement is enough and works
if ( file_exists( WP_PLUGIN_DIR . '/buddypress-links/languages/buddypress-links-' . get_locale() . '.mo' ) )
load_textdomain( 'buddypress-links', WP_PLUGIN_DIR . '/buddypress-links/languages/buddypress-links-' . get_locale() . '.mo' );If you wanna translate:
Erase (or comment) the function and use the code above instead
Name your .mo file buddypress-links-xx_XX.mo (xX are your country code)
In reply to: New Plugin – BuddyPress Links – Beta Support@nexia patience c’est en cours.
sorry sometimes we speak french here
In reply to: New Plugin – BuddyPress Links – Beta SupportTo avoid that ? Of course, if the strings are identical to buddypress existing one, use ‘buddypress’ as text domain.
If your added strings, use ‘buddypress-links’ and make the accordingly .pot file
I never encountered problems with overlapping strings with the plugins i translated. So i don’t know if it’s possible or not.
In reply to: New Plugin – BuddyPress Links – Beta Support@ Ray
For RSS linking, there is already an existing plugin who do that:
external-blog-feeds by…Andy P !
not motivated by copy/paste the whole things. I wait for next release
In reply to: New Plugin – BuddyPress Links – Beta SupportHi, great work !
Is it possible that you provide a .pot file for further translation work ?
In reply to: Some 1.1.2 bug reportsMy idea and tested
By reinstalling the normal version of 1.1.2 things went back correctly.
Probably a little path error in one of the group files… ?
In reply to: Capitalize names in xprofile on input/signupI wouldn’t have a long debate about uppercasing before or after DB storing. My english is to poor for that. I understand the problemn because i debate myself about in many past situation.
So, back to our sheeps. My CSS trick is valid since 1998’s recommandation for CSS2
You can learn more about here, ie :
http://www.w3schools.com/Css/pr_text_text-transform.asp
To have the first letter of each word in uppercase, you can use text-transform:capitalize;
But feel free to write your own function if you thinck it’s valid php, aproved code and needed service by the majority of your visitors.
In reply to: Capitalize names in xprofile on input/signupOh what a bunch of code for just uppercasing a name ?!!!!
I suppose you want some cosmetic text appearance…
I suggest… you don’t need to transform the input, you can do this at the output by css.
text-transform : uppercase;
In reply to: Fighting Splogs@ Peter – sure certainly not, but each incoming door need to be monitored

since i use the trick i have no more splogs or spammer registering !
wp-ban works nice, invisible defender also and wp-spamfree did correctly his work too….
a little additionnal htaccess hack and the wp-login file hack make things going right for me.
I put some emails in the wp ban admin but i don’t know if this works correctly.
I didn’t use captcha or similar techniques.
@ andrewliebchen
your problem is probably due to this: “. If a directory install, is it in root or in a subdirectory? It is in the root, however the root URL itself is a subdirectory.”
shared host is not the best for wpmu+bp….
verify that your hoster allows wildcard for your account or accept multiblog systems.
Verify your wp-config.php file and show what is written in define vhost.
In reply to: My blogs Menu Problemwrong file permission on the bp-core/js/admin-bar.js file (640 instead of 644)…
In reply to: Translation and path errors in backend @DJPaulflyout menu problem is solved.
Was a f… folder permission…argh…
In reply to: Translation and path errors in backend @DJPaulThxs !
no it’s not a big issue, just a important little detail as any other usability indication – not all site admin read and understand correctly english warnings or message. But you’re right, it’s not a big issue.
I hope you find the time to take a look for the variable problem.
If you know about css problems, i also have trouble with the flyout part of the ‘MyBlog’ menu (is not appearing)
Cheers !
Hi,
Things happens here for text:
buddypress 1.1.1\bp-core\bp-core-templatetags.php
Line 697 : function bp_create_excerpt( $text, $excerpt_length = 55, $filter_shortcodes = true ) { // Fakes an excerpt if needed
In the same file you probably find some code for avatar
